Now before I go any further I am not generally one to bad mouth our players or knock the manager. I know he may well still be young but not one element of his game inspires me that he may yet be a good player. His passing, retention of the ball, tackling, heading and reading of the game are below average at best as far as I can see. The amount of times he gets pushed of the ball in a game is something to behold. Is it just me or can anyone highlight to me one element of his game that makes him good enough for LFC, something that Rafa can see that I have missed? :O

Well A he is young maybe the match was to much for him on this day remember consistency takes time and alot of match exp.

One thing is thou he didn't make any major mistakes that cost us Carra made massive mistake I don't hear any one slaging him of.

So leave the lad alone.

Carra has earned the right to make the occasional mistake and be forgiven for it . Lucas hasn't.

While I'm at the Benitez impersonations, is any one bored with the same old Benitez interviews. We had a gud qwaality, gud mentality, we controwl the game, good posseshon, cweate lotsh of chances........ the same old bloody pap in every interview, I'm starting to think he needs a good pint of banks's beer and a personality transplant.

That said in Rafa we trust (sort of) :D

Any opinions on Benitez interviews yet or is it just me bored with them?

Boring Benitez interviews, does it DRIVE YOU MAD??!!!

Can someone start a thread on this for me please, or is nobody bothered

If he thinks Rafa is boring in interviews he is entitled to that opinioin and the point of this whole website is to voice your opinions! I agree, he is boring, but i couldn't care less. I am sure that is your stance aswell,

Carra rips into Lucas.

ok before i start i dont know if thos us true or not.

on my local radio today, a guy phoned in to say that after the game ended last night JC ripped into Lucas in the tunnel, JC told Lucas that he has seen better pasing from a 5 year old and that a brick wall had better vision.

Not sure if it is true but i can see JC saying the words lol.

Would'nt be surprised if he did!
He would be quite right and justified in doing so!
Now im not gonna bang on like Peewee does about Kuyt repeatedly like a broken record!
But what I will say is that people in this thread are suggesting that it was just one game Lucas played poor.Others suggesting he is young and will come good.
Firstly it is not just one occasion that he has been embarrassingly poor,I struggle to think of any game he has played well in fact!
As for him coming good, its NEVER gonna happen in a million years.
Hopefully Rafa can see him for what he is like he did with Gonzalez for example and get rid.
Hopefully the lad can go somewhere(maybe back to Brazil) where apparently he played well and have a good career because its never gonna happen at LFC!

The lad is a good squad player. He comes in and does a job and does not play every week. Yu cannot expect this type of player to be man of the match every time he plays.

He got through a lot of work in that midfield and did an unspectacular job for the team. Give the lad a break.. Giving the ball away and :censored: tackling is to be expected from a young player, especially as he spent the whole game chasing Marseille players constantly running past him without the ball - any midfield player would have been concerned and Mash is far more experienced and talented and handled it better.

oh fuk me people need to stop all the 'young' and 'hes only 20' bullsht cause im sure theres some 5 million 20 year old players out there who are playing sht now but might or might not become good players in 10 years time..
he has shown absolutely nothing at club level in this league to suggest that he might become even remotely good enough to start for this club.. i really dont care if hes 20 or 40.. i dont want us to keep playing sht players because they might become 'decent' in a few years.. either loan him out or play him with the reserves till he's good enough or just sell him and get a good enough proven backup who can actually pick a pass.

Hi all

First time poster, baptism of fire on this one maybe...

People always seem to bring up the Everton match when referring to Lucas. That was a year ago. Since then he's plodded along, doing everything just about ok, never spectacular and never really demonstrating exactly what the outstanding attributes are that made him the Brazilian player of the year. It can't have been the steady, constant 5-10 yard passes he spends most of the time making, can it?

This isn't a reaction to last night - the Marseilles match is just what's prompted the discussion I suppose. It's a reaction to what I've seen from the guy so far.

Glad to see your admitting I'm the best judge Nanny, maybe you needed a question mark in there. :rasp
I have no idea what Rafa sees in Kuyt and the less said about van Basten's managerial abilities the better, just ask any dutch football fans about Hollands less than glorious exit from the Euro's.
Look bottom line I have my view about Kuyt and Lucas and a few others and you guys have another view, lets just leave it at that, at the moment I'm happy about how we are playing, I just hope Rafa doesn't go and spoil my good mood against Stoke by over rotating and styling but I don't think he will.

I'm sure most fans of their teams have had one of these scenarios if not both

1. You're in a crowded pub and after the game when your manager comes on to do his interview you get close to the TV (or speaker) to try and hear it.
2. You're at home and after the game when your manager comes on to do his interview you tell the missus to be quiet while you listen.

Why is this? cus you bloody wanna know what he thought about the game. My point is Benitez never gives anything away, which pisses me off, just like you Lee J who can't cope with another opinion.

I dont know the stats, but i would warrant if one was to go through the stats for Gerrard, Alonso, and compare them with Kuyt and Lucas and Benayoun and pick out completed pass and incomplete passes (meaning pass to opposition), the figure would be interesting.  I do not expect goals galore, brilliant ball control, and amazing dummys from Kuyt/Lucas and Benayoun - but i would like them to do the basics which are give ball to LFC player, control a given pass and have the strenght to hold off the odd tackle.  While stats showing how much ground you have covered during game sounds great, a lot of these might have to do with the chasing back you have to do after losing ball in the first place.
There has been too many LFC attacks broken down becuase of these three players (not always but more than most) yet Rafa continues to play them which brings me back again to my point that perhaps Rafa is content to lose possession in oppo half and for his team to hassle, harry and defend well to get ball back.  While this is important, it surely must be tiring for players and it would be much easier to try beat teams with flair when they are there for the taking - which i feel Marseille were the other night
