Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

it seems plain to me that the problem with lucas is that he is struggling to adapt to the pace of the premiership, or the pace anywhere outside of brazil. if you look closely at the times when he gives the ball away the pass he is attempting is actually a nice idea. he's seen a run, or a player in space, or a way to change the direction of play. its obvious that there is talent and that he is not as useless as many people are trying to make out. its clear though that most of the things he tries are not coming off. he needs a regular run of games so he can learn to adapt but there is no way he is going to get them in the first team.

so what do we do with him? do we loan him out or do we stick him in the reserves week in, week out? i think that if we sell him and he gets regular football with someone then he might just turn into that player we have seen tiny glimpses of and we'll wish we still had him in the squad.

to be fair andy we have too many squad players that are not good enough, this can be seen by the shambles last season when we rotated. some of these guys will never make it for us and should be shipped out, quality not quantity

its a good post and i fully agree . I think like i've said best case scenario is to loan him out . Rafa is not doing any facours by giving him a start every 10 matches or so and using him as a substitute . Regular footie is what he needs !!  :nod

I'm not too sure on Lucas, never really impressed me in any games, even the Everton game. I'm still prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt (only cause he is supposedly Brazilian and young). I do think Benitez plays him fairly regular, regular enough that if you have gud qwaality (Benitez pronunciation) you should flourish, if he doesn't flourish he doesn't have enough qwaality.

While I'm at the Benitez impersonations, is any one bored with the same old Benitez interviews. We had a gud qwaality, gud mentality, we controwl the game, good posseshon, cweate lotsh of chances........ the same old bloody pap in every interview, I'm starting to think he needs a good pint of banks's beer and a personality transplant.

That said in Rafa we trust (sort of) :D

I have to admit lucas has looked poor so far , apart from the odd bright game last season.

But I keep telling my self its cos he is young and center midfield is an area you need exp in.

But he captin of under 21s for brazil you think he would cope better wouldn't you.

Maybe he just needs a whole season of playing.

We seem to forget he does not play every week which don't help.

Even alonso and gerrard look rusty if they don't play often.

Tho gerrard normaly takes only 15 mins of game to look ok agian lol.  :D

But then agian he is magic.

I dunno lets give lucus till end of this season to see if he comes good before ranting about how bad the lad is.

He (I assume its Kuyt) doesnt get any worship, but he does get credit where and when its due rather than simply calling the lad cack.

i give him credit on the odd occasion he deserves it, read the threads properly rather than just look for posts you can snipe at.

as for jim beglin, do you really think people can not form their own opinions? to be fair to the posters in here, lucas was poor last night and has generally been poor when he has played.

I think the problems lies with too many mediocre players that fail to do even the basics - i.e. control of ball, pass when a pass is on, track back not just because you have made a balls of the pass and trying to redeem yourself.  Where does Lucas fit in a midfield that SHOULD include BABEL, MASCH, GERRARD, ALONSO and REIRA.  For me, this five players should be first choice depending on availability.  Next in line would be Kuyt, then Lucas, and finally Benayoun.  I can understand taking Gerrard off yesterday evening but why bring on Benayoun who like Kuyt and Lucas has very poor ball control.  Gerrard after the game made point that they failed to keep possession in second half - i presume he means both when he was on and after he came off.  Well, any team with Kuyt/Benni/Lucas as their midfield will give away possession - PERIOD.  They lack the touch, skill and vision that Alonso, Gerrard and Reira (so far) have.  For me, when winning 2-1 away from home, possession is vital.  Keep the ball away from home team, they will get frustrated, crowd get on home team's back - this for me is simple tactics - Rafa got it wrong by.  In the last 20 mins, Masch spent the whole time chasing after shadows unable to get a foot on the ball simply because his teammates could not keep possession.  Also was Agger on the subs bench - i feel he could have added a bit of stability to the defense that played well but a lot of OM chances were down to simply given possession away too cheaply

Wow! peewee slagging off Liverpool players. Shock, horror!

Here's a thought, why not support another team as clearly you do not like ours. Clearly not a "support"er.
