I agree with most of what is being said. I think that if we do sign Barry with the very good signing of Keane we will have a squad deep enough to challenge.

No new developments seemingly, some papers saying it could get tricky for us if Arsenal get involved, others with quotes from Wenger denying any interest. FWIW, I don't think there's anything in the Arsenal link whatsoever. A fleeting bit of interest at best.

The most consistent line now seems to be that the deal will get done at some stage, with only technicalities remaining - e.g. over the payment structure of the deal. The sudden Volte-face in Villa's position seems to indicate a massive eagerness (desperateness if you prefer) to get it sorted on their part, as their own transfer plans are no doubt coming under greater pressure.

As an aside, I was reading an article in the independent on this subject, which came out with this...

Benitez can still hope that Jermaine Pennant will bring in £4m, should Blackburn Rovers develop their known interest in the winger. Andrei Voronin could bring in £6m and Steve Finnan £2m.

Bit cheap like :laugh:

from what i heard, both us and villa were haggling over certain installments in which the money will be paid to aston villa. whatever the case, there's no way barry can go back to villa now. unless arsenal come in with a late bid (they need a central midfielder), i'd expect barry to be a livepool player in a week or so.
