CHELSEA vs LIVERPOOL: 30/04/08 7.45pm - Champions League Semi Final - 2nd Leg

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

2nd leg I'd rather see us go for the goal in the opening 20 minutes than the last 20 minutes. We need to give ourselves as much time as possible to score, trying to defend and soak up pressure will make the task even harder. Go for the away goal and early, that way when they come and attack us trying to level it up, gives us the option of scoring on the break and making their task twice as hard.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

I just think it HAS to be the most difficult of situations for us to prevail.  That's how we do it and it's how we usually do it, and none of us posters on Newkit should be surprised if we win comfortably (or more than fucking likely, uncomfortably after extra time and penalties) next week.  If anything, after watching the match tonight, it will be an upset if we lose.  I thought we were better equipped to go through over two legs, Riise's own goal or not...  Sure Chelsea had a good 15-20 minutes in the second half but you're a fool if you didnt expect them not to have a spell like that at some point.  But they're not the team they had a couple of years ago.

Chelsea should be shitting themselves, not appearing on Sky Sports News with this apparently over-confident Cech and Lampard reckoning that we have it all to do next week.

Have they not learnt yet how the story ends year after year?  I sound like I'm full of empty threats and relying on tradition and superstition and motivational words, but I didn't see a team who were better than us tonight.

Forget the Stamford Bridge unbeaten record.  Put it this way, if fate decides we go out next week, there'll be fucking drama.    So be it...

They've not been beaten since 2004 at home?  If you ask me, it's made for us to go through...  We're a team of winners.

We won't go down fighting, we never do, no matter what, and that leaves me with nothing but confidence that anthing can happen, and probably will happen next week.

Just ignore Sky Sports.  If like me, you're sitting typing on a laptop with Sky Sports on your TV, you will see them wanking over Chelsea already...

I've a lot more to say about this tomorrow.  I've got opinions about Barca and Man Utd I'd like to discuss as well if anyone starts a thread about that tie in the relevant forum.  We can discuss that...

Its been that way for every trophy we've won over the last few years, always the hard way. Its a good thing at the end, it adds to the legend, mystique and fame of LFC, but it fcking takes years off me. :D

You dun get paid ridiculous $$$ every week to play with only one leg! Yes, that's him - John Arne Riise!!! He could have kicked the ball away with his right foot but being a handicapped left-legged player, he used his idiotic head instead to clear a ball that's a few inches off the ground! Enough is enough! It's not just this game but countless games when Riise plays like a stupid player, easily beaten, poor positioning, schoolboy technique....the list goes on and on.....Rafa should sell him in the summer!!!

Lads, look at who we beat to get this far... teams far better than Chavski so lets not get upset about a silly own goal.

On a side note did you see how made up Grant was at the final whistle? couldnt believe his luck, Morreen would have come accross non plused and would have still made out he`d been done and they should have won by three but this c.nt made no attempt to hide his glee at his good fortune.
Reeks of desperation to me, in out his depth.

Just got back. Thankfully the M6 has calmed the massive sense of disbelief and i've got a bit of perspective now.

Good performance from the lads, the best we've played against them with the exception of the FA semi a couple of years back. Cech was an absolute hero for them and no doubt kept them in it and it's a shame Fernando wasn't quite on it tonight as his touch let him down on a few occasions when he might have been in. Kuyt was absolutely excellent once again, agree with Leon, everything stuck to him today, his movement was good, he showed for the ball all game, defended for his life and scored again. what more can you ask? Skrtel had his best game in a Red shirt, he really stepped up tonight. Carra was masterful in dealing with Drogba once again.

All to play for in the 2nd leg. Remember we were all creaming ourselves about scoring at the Emirates, well it didn't mean fook all 15 mins into the 2nd leg so we should be confident.

As for the ref tonight. How many fouls did he give!?! It was ridiculous, he was giving fouls (both ways) for stuff i couldn't even see and yet Torres had the shi..te kicked, elbowed and punched out of him and not a whistle.

Drogba must be the biggest c.u..n...t in football. Surpasses everyone else for me, i've never known any player to go down as easily he does. how many snipers were in the stadium tonight? What makes it worse is he is a fantastic player, he's got the lot, big, strong, quick, skillfull. He doesn't need to play like the cheating f..u..c...k he is.

Aldo on Radio City after the game talking about Drogba. "The other day me wife was doin the hoovering when the footy was on the box, she bumped into the TV and he went down then an all"   :D  :D  :D

Absolutely cracked me up :D

Scott the ref was :censored:. I think he was unsure whether he got their penalty shout with Carra right so he gave them everything after that. That John Terry is a nasty c..t, had his elbow into Torres atleast three times, ffs he even stuck a knee into Torres while Torres was on the turf.

Do they not know who they're playing?

If there was/is one team you would out a thousand pounds on beating some pathetic nomark record like that, you'd have your money on Liverpool.  We need to score next week.  We will score.  You'd bank on us to do it.  Chelsea fucking know it as well and will prepare for it.  Never mind all this b*ll*c*ks that we haven't scored a meaningful goal there since Bruno Cheyrou.  Wait 'til next week.  Different story mate.

There's something special about us as a club.  When we won in Istanbul, we needed to be 0-3 down against AC Milan to come back and win.  I can't describe it when it comes to supporting Liverpool, but you need to have a bit of a spiritual belief in times like this.

If you're still reading, I actually live in Liverpool and know at least four people (maybe you know more) who have already booked flights to Moscow, and two of them are going to London next Wednesday.  That's what we're about, and exactly what makes us (to coin a song) have hope in our hearts.

We're better than Chelsea.  (Like we needed to...) we proved it tonight, and we'll prove it next week.

Top Post Johnny Mac.

I love the over-confidence of the blue scum, yet again. 1-1 does not mean they have won the tie, dirty cheating p*ric*ks, they are up against Liverpool FC!

They are a disgrace of club and tonight proved it. I can't believe that a team that has spent more money then any other team on the planet can not even string some passes together or resemble any sort of cohesion watsoever, let alone look like actually scoring.

They have to resort to cheating (Drogba's countless play-acting), thuggery (the countless fouls committed that went unpunished) and downright villany (Terry's kick on Torres when he was on the floor). Their slug of manager looks more at home on a Star Wars movie set playing Jabba the Hutt's long lost brother then at a Champions League semi-final.

So wat if we are underdogs again. It was the same in 2005 and 2007. And when they continue buying mercenaries, handing out their crappy little flags for their home games and miserably try to emulate OUR passion, the result will ALWAYS be the same.

the ref works for UEFA and UEFA (especially that guillard :censored:) don't want us in the final after last years problems. I wouldn't be surprised if more than one "debatebale" decision goes Chelsea's way next week.

to say the end was a bit of a sickener would be an understatement, but still 90 minutes left to play (or 95 if we are losing hopefully).

I am actually quite confident about the second leg based on last nights performance, it was just one individual horrendous error that cost us, a couple of players went missing second half but that still didn't cost us, bit annoyed at the end watching them celebrate as though they deserved it so hopefully we will watch a team of deserving winners in red next week
