i am i sad man. tho words "holy mother of god why head it?" have been reverberating round my head for almost an hour. It looks an uphill battle. surely chelsea have there visas ordered, they can already see the snow and taste the vodka. Romans £1billiion spent on the blue machine have almost got him right back to Moscow. he could have probably bought the actual cup for about £100k.

However, if there is 1 thing the reds specialize in its stickin it to Chelsea in Europe. So after dumping them out of Europe twice at Anfield previously, the only thing left is 2 to give them a chance to take back to the bridge for what will be the final, and ultimate humbling of the Russian plaything and all its chav followers. on there on patch. no disputed goal. no penalties. no home advantage. The ultimate victory. I cant wait

If JAR had left it Anelka would have scored if he had swung his right boot it could just as easily have ended up in the roof of the net.

Raffa got his team and the forced change spot on

because you put the best team on the pitch for every game and big sammi is crucial to the team both in attack and defence in games like this.....

the past has shown hypia to be instrumental to success remember inter 05

we need big solid rock type bodies in defence and sammi has shown over 10 years in the club he can handle anyone and he can go forward and score aswell......

the missing piece in the jigsaw especially when we had so many corners to the end of the game...

Yeah and Sami has NEVER scored an own goal has he  ??? Its easy to say AFTER the result, if JAR hadn't scored the own goal NO ONE would mention the team selection. Would Sami have made the last ditch tackles Carra did, or had the pace Skirtel shown on numerous occasions tonight ? Its hypothetical, the two centre halfs we had playing coped with certain situations that maybe Sami would not have

sammi is a top defnsive player has greater confidence and maturity in defence and wouldnt have made that ball a header..... he would of belted it right out of there....

Hypothetically  :)

Confidence and Maturity ?

haha :)

nice one

obvious ones to start with...plenty of changes, at least five from the Fulham game. Torres and Gerrard both to start. Carra at right back.

not so obvious I've a sneaking feeling that Pennant will start on the right and Kuyt on the left. I can see Benitez being weary of Joe Cole or Wright-Phillips and will want Kuyt to help out over there. Probably feels Carra is a good enough defender to make do with Anelka/Kalou or any other of their left wingers.

Result...2-0. Torres within the first 20 minutes and a Fabio Aurelio free kick around the hour mark.

Now you know what's gonna happen are you more confident :D (can't wait for one of me predictions to be arse above tit so people can get on me back over it)

:no totally and utterly wrong and look we drew, when will Benitez learn to read what I post and take it on board  :D

seriously though, it's not all doom and gloom. we played well at times, and outclassed Chelsea during long periods of the game. We'll get at least two clear chances at Stamford Bridge, it's just whether or not we finish them. (today we didn't and that's why it's 1-1)

ref, well least said the better. he was a total and utter :censored:.

team...reina did well, defence was brilliant, midfield as well as I've seen Alonso, Kuyt and Mascherano play for Liverpool. Babel was hot and cold. Gerrard again didn't perform to his best, but was constantly involved. Torres non existant bar the two shots and miscontrol he had. If he'd taken those two chances it'd be another great game by him, because he missed them, it was a disappointing performance by the lad IMO. Riise and Benayoun neither did anything positive for us.

Man of the match...Martin Skrtel.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

I think those European refs need to think a bit!
FFS the tone was set from the whistle, any contact atal and the whistle goes.
Of course players are gonna try and exploit that and they cant be blamed!I thought it was a very clean game in ways of fouls, but some of the diving was pathetic.

Could have flowed more if a kick on the toe was not a foul!
No excuses from me though,we had enough chances to put it to bed and really should have if Torres was not so nervous.

Anyway im gutted for Riise, really am and will not hold anything against him even if we go out(which we wont)

Its game on for me,and oh how they will shi.te themselves if we score 1st at the bridge!
On a serious note i dont think gingers are a good idea! :D :D

Now that last minute kick in the nuts is starting to wear off, I have every faith that we can do this in the 2nd leg.
Tonight's game showed that we have nothing to fear from Chelsea, we were the better team by a distance. They are definitely not as good as they were when we played them in the semi finals before, and we have improved significantly.

The game also showed once again that Drogba is a f*cking disgrace.

And it also showed why John Terry isn't (and shouldn't be) England captain. Dirty c*nt.

Rafa Benitez criticised the performance of the referee following Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

The Reds took the lead in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final through Dirk Kuyt and had chances to extend their advantage.

However, John Arne Riise scored an own goal deep into stoppage time to give Chelsea a crucial away goal to take back to Stamford Bridge next week.

Benitez does not believe Liverpool were helped by official Konrad Plautz, insisting that most of the decisions went in Chelsea's favour.

The Liverpool boss was also puzzled by the amount of injury time that was played.

"It was difficult to understand," Benitez said on Sky Sports News.

"It was maybe 94 or 95 minutes and I was surprised it was not a free-kick or corner because it was always against us, all the free-kicks and corners."

Asked if he was unhappy with the referee, Benitez added: "Yes, and it's not the first time, it's really disappointing.

"We knew what to expect because we'd had him before against Marseille, but you can't blame the referee for the own goal.

"He gave just one minute of injury time in the first half and four minutes in the second half. I don't know exactly but I think it was five minutes (when Riise scored the own goal). It is difficult to explain."

Turning his focus to the second leg at Chelsea, Benitez admitted the onus would be on Liverpool to force the issue.

He added: "In the end it was an own goal and I was really disappointed. We have 90 minutes and we need to go there to win."

"We must now be positive and clear our minds. If we play like that at Stamford Bridge next week and take those chances, we will go through.

"We have confidence in ourselves. I am confident we can do it, I will recall the first 20 minutes of the second period when we were very much on top of Chelsea. If we can do that again at Stamford Bridge, we can still get to the final."

What the bets we do their unbeaten record? Most one sided game we have had agaist them in CL and plenty of reason to think we can trouble them at the Bridge, play the ressie`s on the weekend me thinks.
Dont judge a book by the cover, unless you cover just another, because blind exceptance is a sign,

he only thing that worries me come Leg 2 is:

Just like Arsenal atr Anfield, as soon as the first whistle sounds we are dragged all aover the pitch and outplayed as if we are the AWAY TEAM AT HOME!

CAn anyone explain that?

Arsenal made us look like amatuers, and Chelsea started bossing the play all over the park, and looked most likely to score for the first 35 mins.

Apart from Riise, trying to head a ball that was 2 inches off the ground, then I thought we were ok.
Tough task now, and I wish we would stop relying on Stevie and Torres all the time. We need more.

I have the old kop faith, but if we somehow dont pull through this time, i would not be suprised.

Tough task to turn them over.

Considering the fact that 99% of what you post is just that, im not surprised that i am not surprised that you dont surprise yourself!
Becasue if you surprised yourself you would actually talk some sense!!

i think maybe we will have to go for it in 2nd leg and have crouchy up top in a 4-4-2. we need to score at least a goal no matter what so we need to take advantge of all of our corners and crosses and i think we pose twice as much threat with crouch up top from these.
