A top prospect for the LFC if he keep improving, providing he is given his chance more often, but under Benitez, I am not sure, as Benitez, will go and buy or acquire on free players more likes Lato, Voronin, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and litter the LFC squad with more below bar players.

Who bought Plessis?

The anticipated response: "the idiot Beneetez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :D

good thread this lad deserved to be singled out for his performance , against arsenal and its only his first game , good debut , very encouraging
Like what i saw , good tackles , never committed too early and some good passes , rafa took a gamble in playing him and it payed off

It's pronounced 'Plessi' as I understand, in fact I'm certain of it.

As has been mentioned, the lad fitted in well, which is the most important observation (he didn't look like a fish out of water) He looked technically sound, had a crisp touch, decent passer of the ball, timed his tackles well.

A very encouraging debut in a game many thought we'd be lambs to the slaughter. I think the best way to phase a young player in is in the odd game here or there, and not amongst a host of other youngsters (except possibly in the league cup), unless they're all exceptionally talented. Young players making the step up need to be in a team that has a decent level of experience so they know what it's like to step up a level, otherwise it could be a bit of a false dawn.

He's momo-esque in style, but technically quite a bit better, and looks very comfortable in possession - which is a fundamental area we need to improve upon if we're going to challenge for the league title in future.

It would appear that Rafa considers him highly given the stature of the game, it would also bear out the theory that 'if they're good enough they'll get a game'. Rafa's now prepared to wait until the right player comes along, with a sufficient level of quality, before he decides to play them. That's an approach I'd sooner see than the GBJH endorsed 'give the youngsters a game just to see if they're good enough' i.e. throw a few in the mix, without carefilly considering whether they're good enough and have sufficent quality.

good post

What would a Plessis-Mascherano pairing look like? he certianly offers different things than Alonso, I think one good thing about his complementary nature to mascherano could be his size, which I think and hope he is still "growing into" and not to say masch isn't cool on the ball but given more experience Plessis could be a regular James Dean out there, a good compliment to the hot headed in your face intense nature of the little chief, could really open the reigns up to our other players with them dominating the game in the centre. Possibly could allow us to play more creative and attacking players than Kuyt on the right or more adventurous fullbacks than finnan or carra.

Plessis, Masher, Yossi, Alonso making of a good midfield which would free up Gerrard to complete a 442 combination with Torres. I wonder if thats what Rafa is working towards medium term?

I think that it's a little too early to praise him after just one game, we should wait and see how he does after a few more games.  I think that he should definitely start in at least the Carling cup games next year though.

That is how it works with some here. Praise him after one game and call him a great prospect and then when he has a couple of quite games call him sh1t and say he can trap a ball further than most of us can kick it and how obvious it is he is not good enough.

Curious to know what stu thinks

Looked very good on the ball.  Very impressed with the guy, and its great to see some more of our young prospects getting a look in.

On of the big positives I have always seen from Rafa's rotating is that it gives young players the opportunities to come in and do something positive.  This is great motivation for young players who are in our reserves and those which we are trying to sign to the club.

I hope that this is the growing trend,

Arsenal who?

At the risk of pi$$ing of the Alonso fan club.. Plessis did in 1 game against arsenal what alonso has failed to do this season .....

Taking charge of midfield and controlling the tempo...

So now we have Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Lucas, Plessis and Guthrie (who will be back) as our CMs....... Does not take a rocket scientist to see one or even 2 will leave before next season........

hmmmmm.....i wonder who are they gonna be....

what i like about him is that he (nearly) always took the time to look for a pass whenever he received the ball, even if that meant making the time and space for himself if he received the ball with bodies around him. the majority of these passes were then played very accurately along the ground, something that we sometimes lack in midfield, especially when the pressure is on. as he develops he's going to be a great player to bring on when we need to keep possession in a tight game. considering the majority of us had never heard of the guy before saturday it was one of the big, big positives of recent times for us. i wonder how many more reserves could step up like that if necessary...

Made more accurate passes than all passes Lucas has made this season. :D A great performance from the lad and was guilty of some misguided tackles and over-exhuberance that you would expect for someone as young as him.He will learn...

What impressed me the most was how cool he remained throughout the whole game, he never really seemed that phased that it was his first team debut, in the emirates, against one of the best teams in the country.

Momo Sissoko but can pass.

Seen him loads of times now, well impressed with him in the reserves.  And now his first team debut has come and against a good team he didint look out of place at all.
