Spanish Press: Mascherano Offered To Barcelona
Marca claims that Barcelona have been offered the services of Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano in order to shore up their central line for next season...

Marca claims that Javier Mascherano has been offered to FC Barcelona, with the blaugrana hierarchy giving serious thought to a move for the Argentina international.

With Deco said to be on the verge of moving on, there is a vacancy about to open up in the Barcelona midfield, with the young West Ham midfielder said to be tempting the club's technical staff.

Mascherano, 23, is currently on loan at Liverpool from West Ham United, although that is not the full story of his status. Like compatriot Carlos Tevez, much of his contract is owned by Media Sports Investments (MSI), which runs Brazilian club Corinthians.

Liverpool are said to be eager to land the player on a permanent basis, and were indeed rumoured to be close to doing so in January, but for now, he remains registered with West Ham but the property of MSI.

Carloz Tevez changed hands to Manchester United for £2m from West Ham United, but Mascherano would no doubt cost a great deal more, given the complexities of the deal. As such, Barcelona are content to adopt a "wait and see" policy for now.

That has to be :censored:, surely Tevez cost more than £2 million, otherwise why the hell didn't we buy him, actually why didn't we buy him in the summer, can you imagine Torres and Tevez up front together.  :D

Sorry to the poster who posted this here. I just posted it in the rumour mill and I missed it.

I posted it there because fortunately I find not much credibility in this news. Typical speculation, me thinks.

Rafa mentioned both Mascherano and ALonso as part of the bright future of Liverpool.

The smart money is on Alonso and Reina to leave at the end of the season Sabre.

ALonso may leave , but i doubt that reina will . HE wants to play champions league football and the only clubs that can give him that are barca . villareal should drop by the end of the 38 games and he won't a go a step back in his career by rejoining them

What a player?!? Let's just hope the delay in signing him up is just being caused by the 'takeover'... The only two aspects of his game that need improvement are his final ball / shot and his passing and I think the latter has improved dramatically over the past 6 months.

18 million? I've got to say it again.....BARGAIN

Was never convinced by him when he started, but the past two/three months he's really grown on me. Chip in with 3-7 goals a season and he'd be as valuable to us as Gerrard. And that's some high praise.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

some tv pundits are talking as if we've already signed Mascherano... they were defending the american owners that they've dished out money for torres and mascherano so the criticism of the owners is a bit harsh...

what's the deal?

He has been the only player, and i include SG and Carra in this, who has fought and given his all over the past 2-3 months. Whereas others have gone through the motions he has tried to spark things with a crunching tackle, or by chasing back and winning the ball, hell he's even tried shooting while the season fell apart. The price is a bargain.

I agree with you. He oozes with fighting spirits that can only be rivaled with Carraghers and that says a lot about someone that has just joined us.

This lad has to be signed up NOW!!!

So what is the score? Have we signed him yet? If not, how soon will it be?  We need to get cracking, we can't afford to lose him.

That he is indeed. Even in Athens he played well, totally shut Kaka out of the game.

Anway Niel nothings been signed yet but Rafa said a few weeks ago that they were making progress and that he was confident of signing him up proper.

Every time they had the ball last night, regardless of who had it and where they were on the pitch, he just seemed to be on them like a flash. That first half chase after he'd been had by a dummy was just colossal play.

He's the best central mid in the Prem at the moment, and we need to make him ours.

Mascherano is easily our best player this season. I love his energy and never-say-die attitude - something our skipper seems to be missing during this critical period. If the rest of the team play with the kind of spirit that Mascherano exudes, we would have been closer to the top of the league table. So sign him up permanently ASAP and make Gerrard learn from him what's the definition of real passion!

I've already stated my opinion about the lad a couple of times in this thread aswell as in the match thread for the Inter game, so I'll just keep it simple this time: Mascherano is incredible, and we need to keep him at all costs.
