Yes, which made it an even bigger achievement. Now, can you seriously honestly tell me that Houllier would have ever won us that competition? Rafa done it at the first time of asking with a relatively unknown squad to him. Most of that team already had enough time playing with each other to be gelled anyway.

Well if you want the league so much then go support Man U.  And Liverpool was always big, but Rafa made it a European giant again, before that no one took the club seriously.

So winning the UEFA Cup in 01 beating sides like Roma and Barcelona along the way, also going onto win the Super Cup against Bayern Munich  didn't make us a European giant did it? But obviously you won't remember those days as you're probably one of these fans who have only started to support us since the success of 05.

Cheers Dawson as well for the welcome.

You're not too smart if you think that winning the UEFA Cup makes you a European Giant.  Before Rafa came to Liverpool, quality players couldn't wait to get out of the club.  Now we are attracting top class players from all over the world.

No disrespect to the UEFA cup, but it's not exactly what you want to be winning to be considered a European giant. It's a nice side dish, but the mean course is the CL. It's the creme de'le creme of all competitions. You don't hear us singing "we won it three times" now do you? No.

When Chelsea won the UEFA, it didn't exactly make them massive in Europe because let's face it they aren't. If anything, all the EUFA  Cup victory done was announce that we were a growing force once again on the continent. The CL win put us bang back on the map.

Oh, and BTW welcome!  :D

Listen- the champions League win was great- But how long can one man live on the achivement.
The FA Cup you will probabley say- well RB going by the team selections he puts out dosent even deem this a trophy worth winning- as last seasons Arsenal dissasters show.
And the :censored: we played against Havant and Luton this season.

It's not being picky to search your soul and ask yourself could you have seen Houllier ever winning us number 5.

I can't. He never would have. Which is why the comparison of Rafa to Houllier is a crazy one.

Benitez isn't trying to live on the back of the CL win. He proved that by winning another piece of silverware and getting us to another two cup finals.

The league is a different animal altogether, as you have a man trying to disrupt the bastion of two, and until recently, three teams that have been dominating since the early to mid 90's. That is not an easy task, and no matter who we bring in, unless we can go out there as Chelsea done and spent mega bucks, it will take a bit more than the standard three seasons that some of our supporters seem accustom to mention that should bring us the title under a new manager. This is folly to the extreme.

Shankly made us great. Liverpool were all but forgotten about in Europe. He made us great again. I can see the comparison.

By the way, it took Shanks 6 years to do anything.

It took Shank's six years to do something, Interesting point, maybe just maybe it was because when Shank's took over we were languishing in the old second division, with a decrepid ground that didn't even have it's own water supply, and a team that hadn't won anything for thirteen years!

It took him six years to build the very foundations that this club has sat on for the past forty four years!

Comparisons between the two can't be drawn.

coz he was awful lol

and what it comes down to, why people are annoyed, is that look at the league. yeah if we win our game in hand we are 4th... but we are struggling for 4th FFS, thats just not good enough for liverpool.

we cant harp on about champs league wins and fa cups when we are in the here and now.... and here and now we are struggling majorly. Even when...if we win today, we are still in an awful position, noe that liverpool should not be in
