Former referee and professional rent-a-quote Jeff Winter believes rival clubs are becoming 'sick and tired' of the behaviour of Premiership champions Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho's side were criticised following their 2-1 victory over West Brom on Saturday for perceived diving and intimidation of match officials.

Winter meanwhile has been criticised for his over-willingness to appear in the British media so he can pontificate on the refereeing issues of the day.

'Chelsea seem to be at the fore when simulation is spoken about,' Winter said on Sky Sports News, his regular paymasters since he was thrown off the referee assessors committee for his constant appearances on the rolling sports news channel.

'As we saw by the reaction of Bryan Robson, there are people in the game who are getting sick and tired of it.

'Sooner or later a player will be genuinely hurt but his reputation will let the culprit get away with it.'

Winter, a man who believes he was given a standing ovation by a knowledgeable Anfield crowd in his last game as a Premiership referee, believes players and clubs should be punished for crowding the referee after decisions have been made.

'The talk has got to stop and action has got to be taken,' Winter added in the Teesside accent all too familiar to Sky viewers and BBC radio listeners as well as those hardy souls who tune in to his local radio phone-in.

'Let's ban players, fine clubs and in a worst-case scenario deduct points because if you want to stop something there are ways and measures of what can be done.'

This is the last time Jeff Winter will ever be quoted on Soccernet, who are becoming 'sick and tired' of Jeff Winter.

On the Kop ovation:

“ In the end I played a little bit extra, waiting until play was at the Kop end, before sounding the final shrill blast - a bit like the Last Post. The fans behind the goal burst into spontaneous applause. It was longer and louder than normal, even for a big home win. Did they know it was my final visit? Was the applause for me? They are such knowledgeable football people, that it would not surprise me. ”

Did we really do that for him? I don't know which game he's talking about... its not stated either in the article.

My most profound memories of him (if my memory fails me not) was that he dished out several red cards during a match between Pool and everton.. I think it was the same match where Gary Mac scored a superb goal.

for what its worth i liked jeff winter, he was harsh, harsh but fair. he wouldnt take any sh!t from players anyways which u have to respect in todays game. i thought there was already a rule stating that if u crowd a ref u r penalised but most refs are pu$$ys nowadays unfortunately

I remember him that game at Goodison.  I wouldn't have clapped for him.  He's deluded.

Winter was a poor referee, he made several dodgy decisions against us down the years and I severely doubt the applause was for him.

He criticises Chelsea, but the truth is he is a media-who.re just like the man at their helm, no respect for him.

He gave Everton a penalty in that game for f'ck all, the whole ground did not know why.
He wasn't a good ref at all, and hammered the beds that much he was almost as dark as Des O'Connor.

My suspicion here is that as knowledgeable as the Anfield crowd is, the ovation at the end was a figment of Mr Winters imagination. He wasn't the worst ref by any means but neither was he the best of a fairly moderate bunch.
Of the current crop I actually think that in the main the standard of refereeing is pretty good at the moment (with the obvious exception of the ridiculous Mike Riley) and in refs like Poll we have guys who are the equal of most in the World.
What I would like to see and have said for some time is moves from above to eradicate the more obvious sores on the face of the game such as diving and time-wasting. All it would take is some will on the part of the administrators and we could put both to bed in six weeks.
For Divers, I'd have a panel sit every weekend to review the previous weeks Premiership action. Where a players reaction is not directly proportional to the contact made if any, I would hand out bans. Robben in the Reina "flicking" incident? I'd say well done Arjen but the panels conclusion is that you simulated serious injury. Five game ban. NEXT. Kromkamp for his ridiculous dive in his early days? We don't do that over here son. Five game ban. NEXT. Drogba for his laughable play-acting at WBA on Saturday? Sorry Didier, the panels conclusion is blah-blah. Five game ban. NEXT. I tell you this, it would stop in the snap of your fingers and the sooner the better. You'd have players diving then bouncing up and getting on with it while claiming they'd slipped left, right and centre. While we're at it, if we ever go down the route of video during a game lets use it on penalty claims. If the guy goes sprawling in the box lets go to the video. It's either a penalty or if somebody is acting, seeking to gain an advantage it's a straight red. Obviously on top of the straight red the panel will check it out at the weekend to enhnace the punishment.
On time wasting, if a player takes the ball into the corner flag and shields it then it is blatant obstruction if he prevents an opponent from playing the ball.  Substitutions? Let 'em stroll off and take as much time as they wish. If a player is substituted by the team in the lead, with less than ten minutes left on the clock then five minutes are added onto the game time. Thats five minutes from when the game stops, with the clock not restarting until the fella has completely strolled off. Do you still want to take a striker off and put a defender on with two minutes to go? Injury simulation? Once a fella hits the deck and stays down he should be carried off and seen by a doctor, one of which should be present at every game. He should have to visit a room beneath the stands and be given the ok by the Quack before he can rejoin the game. Still want to writhe around in agony?
The public are being shortchanged at the moment by the likes of Mourinho bending the rules to breaking point. I don't blame him, I blame the authorities for not addressing the issues.

Maybe Graham Poll learnt from him, on how to love yourself.  As they said about Glen Hoddle, "If he was an ice cream, he'd lick himself to death."

Like the picture. Good day for me then  :D

But about Jeff, the day I give a standing ovation to a ref will be the day when they invent a machine with the power of a million rampaging bulls which can lift me off my feet and force my hands together.

Slightly off topic but can anyone remember the referee who celerbrated Patrick bergers goal?

The reason behind his celebration was the fact he let play go on (Advantage) after a Liverpool player was fouled and Berger Netted.
