This, if true, has to be a decision made by either the owners or someone like Rick Parry. I could understand it to a degree, that it is Luton's problem and they were getting TV money out of it. However the reason I'd simply give them the money is for the club image and the damage not doing so is doing.

I coildn't care less, they have a replay and the money from that will outweigh whatever they wanted from Saturday. If the footballing world is so concerned its quite simple, bail Luton out collectively, its not LFC's responsibilty solely because we happen to have played them. Infact i believe bailing out is irresponsible in any case, it gives other Clubs a get out clause for mis-management. FFS mange your finances correctly.

I tried putting across the financial common sense perspective to a couple of colleagues, but because clubs have bailed out smaller clubs in the past it's almost unthinkable not to - in the views of some people. But in truth for the minimal amount of money we'd make from their gate receipts it probably wasn't worth the grief, I agree that Luton are in a hole because of their own doing and rescuing them isn't our problem. Do every team they ever play give them donations and the money from gate receipts? The manc website mentions Bury, how come they don't have whip rounds at every game for clubs in dire straits? And if it were a company and not a football club would people be so generous? I doubt it, dog eat dog except for football apparently.

But at the end of the day we're the one's who have to 'live it down', decisions made by the owners. Like one fan who says Liverpool will win the league on a general forum or on teletext and apparently ALL Liverpool fans are tarred with the same brush. You can't say about the replay, at the time I doubt those that made the decision expected anything but a cushy win.

And another thing, Leeds and Ken Bates wriggled their way out of paying off their debts by agreeing a pitiful 8p in the pound or something that ridiculous. So they borrow £60m to buy success, or so they thought, and their wasteful spending, mismanagement and stupidity put them in debt. Few fans sympathise with them because of the high profile of that stupid move, clubs don't just end up in sh1t because it just happens. Funny how many clubs stay solvent, the minute one doesn't people take pity.

I understand the sentiments and it isn't a huge amount, infact SG gets that in a week but its a harsh lesson for them to learn, and any commentators who feel we have been a bit harsh can write a cheque and wing it over to Luton if they like. ManU only helped Bury because they have a bit of a relationship with them and it is fairly local.

I will add to this that there is absolutely NOTHING to stop EVERY club coughing up some of their gate receipts and TV money, just because they're not playing Luton they feel in some way dettached yet they are quick to criticise. I'm sure the gate receipts from the 4th round tie at old trafford will raise many times more than Luton's gate did, I wonder if they will fork out any or is it only the team 'lucky' enough to play a team in financial crisis that has to?

My initial thought was if our share of the gate receipt was enough to save them then they couldn't be in that dire a trouble, a decent turn out in league games would or should do that. And I'd be interested to know what their normal ticket prices are and if they hiked up the prices as they knew we were in town. You can bet they won't divulge that, I've known clubs charge the away fans more. But any excuse to have a pop at Liverpool, makes a change from solely slating the team.

LFC used produce so many good players, but since Houlier and this idiot Benitez, LFC, became a top buying club of a most and very average foreign players, while we pushing out and neglecting our youth policy. Every year LFC is dropping back behind Man. utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, and others up coming clubs in this league.

I think all the faithful fans should raise their voices and demand a immediate change, by bringing a manager from one of Liverpool old players and must be British, we had enough of second standard foreign manages, they only brought short successes, but long term damage to LFC, lowering the standard, made the club lose al it wealth, by paying top wages to below average players the likes, of Voronin,Kuyt, Kewell, Leto, Aurelio, and some many others I can even remember their names.

It is time for change, we already lost the league, but not in idiot Benitez eyes, because, he want to keep his position and his reputation, because if get the sack from LFC, it will harm his reputation, and make hard for him to land a top job like this one.
He must be replaced at once.

Oh ye an champions league and an F.A cup plus 2 cups finals as well in 3 years ......

AND he brought in Agger, Mascherano, Torres, Alonso, Garcia, Leiva, Babel, Intadje ( looks a decent keeper )

I kno he bought flops but i wouldnt call kuyt a flop or sissoko ......

Mike Newell was asked what he thought of the rumours that Rafa was going to quit at the end of the season? Newell replied that he thought he was already gone and that he couldnt see how he could continue after the arguements/misunderstandings between management and manager. He thought Rafa had picked the wrong arguement and compared it to Mourinho going head-to-head with Ambromich and losing regardless of his position with the fans.

Newell also felt that Rafa was making some poor decisions with the team. Brought up the Reading game where he gave up and took off Carra, Gerrard and Torres. Also mentioned the Wigan game where he couldnt understand why LFC played 4-5-1 against a team of the calibre of Wigan.

Newell also said that he felt that we where no nearer winning the title and that we hadnt got any closer since the days of Roy Evans. Newell also felt that the football we played then is a lot better than what it has been under current and previous managers.

Was interesting to hear someone who IMO talks good footballing sense coming out and being so honest with his opinions about the Reds and their current position. He is a staunch red and could have easily glossed over and given the usual 'everything will get better!' that a lot of ex-reds players give.

LIVERPOOL FC defender Jamie Carragher was at the centre of controversy last night over claims he lost his temper with a group of Luton fans following Sunday’s FA Cup tie.

A national newspaper said he climbed a fence to challenge a small number of supporters after they taunted and sprayed him with drink after the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

It was claimed Carragher, 29, screamed obscenities at around eight Luton supporters, who were in a box and wearing curly black “Scouse” wigs, and had to be dragged away by security guards when he attempted to confront them.

The incident reportedly happened as Carragher jogged round the pitch with his team- mates in a “warming-down” exercise following the game at Kenilworth Road.

A Luton FC spokesman said: “There was a problem which is being investigated by our safety officer.”

In July, Carragher stunned listeners of a national radio station by phoning in to launch an impassioned defend his decision to consider international retirement.

The Liverpool defender was branded a “bottler” by talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham during a debate with fellow presenter and former footballer Micky Quinn after it emerged Carragher was ready to quit the England squad.

An enraged Carragher was informed of the slur, called the station and was put through live on air as thousands of listeners heard him challenge Durham’s views.

LIVERPOOL star Jamie Carragher was showered with booze moments before he angrily confronted a group of foul-mouthed Luton fans.

The defender reacted to abuse hurled at him after the Reds’ FA Cup clash against Luton on Sunday.

The 29-year-old jumped up onto a advertising hoarding at Kenilworth Road to remonstrate with the offending supporters.

Today it emerged the Liverpool players were targeted by a colourful gang of Hatters’ supporters after the final whistle.

Club sources described how Jamie and other Liverpool players received a volley of foul-mouthed as they signed autographs for children.

One Anfield insider told the ECHO: “The players were warming down on the side of the pitch near the tunnel.

“There were families in the executive boxes and they were running up and down near those boxes.

“They were asked to go and sign some autographs which they did.

“But they started to get a lot of earache from some supporters - some of which was quite nasty.

“Then somebody showered Jamie with a drink, possibly ale, which caused him to briefly react.”

It is believed the abuse came from a group of Luton supporters dressed in curly black wigs.

A Luton FC spokesman said the club was unaware of a complaint .

The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

On Liverpool FC forums Carragher today received widespread support from Reds fans.

One said: “Yet again Jamie is standing up for us and showing the passion for his club and city.”

Sim Hussain, 31, from Luton described how Carragher was spat at as he shook his eight-year-old nephew’s hand.

He told the ECHO: “It was awful. He was making the kids’ day by coming over and meeting them.

“They were swearing at him, the language was terrible and making references to his mother. Even then, Jamie only told them to calm down. Then someone spat at him and a drink was thrown at him.

“I’m from Luton and I thought what happened was disgusting.”

Disgraceful behaviour from Carragher. Honestly.

Watch how he maliciously attacks this innocent group of 'merry-makers' in one of the most shocking video clips you could wish to endure. He ought to be ashamed of himself...lunging towards them and 'swiping out' like that. Ruining their good natured banter with what can only be best described as irresponsible representation of a club the size of Liverpool. How dare he come across as the paragon of virtue, the footballing world would have you believe...the man is nothing short of a hooligan!

Then is Babel an even bigger flop.

(and I don't see both players as flops, although I still think DK is more worth to a team then the likes of Babel)

Not sure what JC was even thinking when he did it but lets hope that not much is done about it, lets face it if it wasa Man u player doing this we would all say he should be banned.

JC showed intent and it will not matter that he did nothing when he got to them, that is what the FA set out after the karate kid event from that man poo player.

Liverpool allege Carragher abuse

Carragher was captaining Liverpool at Kenilworth
Liverpool say Jamie Carragher was spat at and had beer thrown over him after Sunday's 1-1 FA Cup tie at Luton.
Carragher, 29, was pictured climbing a barrier to confront Luton supporters but neither the Football Association or local police have received complaints.

"Jamie went to sign autographs for youngsters in the executive boxes," said a Liverpool spokesman.

"Unfortunately, he was subjected to a tirade of foul-mouthed abuse and also had beer thrown at him."

A Luton spokesman said the incident is being investigated by their safety officer, although could not confirm or deny it took place.

Liverpool will play Luton in their third-round replay at Anfield on Tuesday 15 January
