The tv made a brief reference to the ex Luton manager Newell making comments in the match build up about what was "really" going on at Liverpool , as though he had inside info . Didn't see it, what was he on about ?.

I too have been very disappointed with his performances this season. I was hoping he'd build on what was a fairly good start to his career last season, 12 league goals and a hell of a lot of effort. I believe he's scored more league goals than any other of Rafa's signings, and his scoring record is better than Crouch's. In all honesty though, all of our forwards, with the exception of Torres have been largely disappointing this season when they've played, so I think it's slightly unfair to single Kuyt out.

Im not singling Kuyt out if there was an award for work on the pitch the lad would win it hands down.

Ive defended him to the hills in the past i dont like to call anyone who plays for us bad but for a proffessional footballer who plays at the highest level must have some ball contol(no jokes here eh) and the last few months that has dissapeared . At one point in the game today Lucas played the ball to him he didnt handle it at all . Even Lucas was shaking his head wonderin what was going on. If i was on the coaching staff id have him behind closed doors showing him back to basic ball control.

But as you said apart from Torres what else have we got thats why them yanks need to get there checkbook out

I think its because Kuyt has been first choice striker since he came (After Torres of course), and people (me) feel that rightly or wrongly that Crouch hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip. Crouch has only started 4 league games this season, and while he has been frequently used as a sub I feel thats not really the best way for any striker to hit top form.

Crouch also looks like he might score, whereas Dirk often looks like he might never score.

I personally don't think any of our strikers (apart from Torres) are of the standard required if we are to win the league. Maybe one of them would be ok if we had 3 other top strikers. If I had to choose I would pick Crouch as the best of the rest not Kuyt.

i personally feel as though crouch is an impact striker

a different option about 60-65 mins during the game, saying that, only Torres is Liverpool Caliber, we need attacking strkiers like torres, not headless chickens.

I think that's a pretty reasonable assessment, I don't know what the stat's are when it comes to min's/goals ratio - but I would assume there isn't a great difference between the two players.

Overall though, the pace of the game in England is getting faster, and faster and this means we need players who with mobility and quality. The tempo of Arsenal's play for example is as fast as I've ever seen in England. The Manc's have it in abundance, as do Chelsea. Teams around us and below us are signing players who combine skill and touch with excellent mobility too, Portsmouth for example, or Everton.

I think our squad lacks this a little, we have players who have quality, and a few who are pacey, but only really two players can combine the two - Torres and Gerrard. Babel has shown signs of quality, but only in fairly limited streaks.

Unfortunately I think Kuyt has proven that ability in the Eredivisie is no measure of how good they'll be in the Premiership. Since he arrived at the club and even including today I and I don't think that anyone else could ever question his work rate on the pitch. His quality as a top rate striker/footballer however really has to be questioned. I've seen 15 stone pub team footballers with better ball control (no jokes!!!) and as for an eye for goal, Carragher is starting to look like he's a better finisher.

Admittedly Dirk hasn't enjoyed the best year on and off the pitch but I certainly think that he warrants no more than a bench place in the Liverpool team. Of the current striking options I'd go along with the general consensus that Crouch is the better option.

I know the performance was way off and the footie was ugly, but we're still in this competition.

Everton, Blackburn & Bolton went out to lower league teams, and they were all at home going out.

Even the Mightly Liverpool of 84-85 drew 1-1 with York City only to stuff them 7-0 at anfield.

Its the FA cup. Shuyt happens.

Embarrassing performance. it's not about the score line, the performance was really awful. We look more like a championship side rather than a top 4 premiership side.

Get rid of the deadwood and bring in players from the lower leagues. None of the luton players looked world class but my god they looked like they cared about playing the beautiful game and made a difference. Lower leagues in this country is where we should be looking at, not for youngsters but just for pure grit and determination.

Yep, Kuyt's work rate is phenomenal but his finishing is abismal.
I have also to agree that Crouch should start with Torres, Crouchy has scored far more goals when he's started games than just when he's come n as sub too. (I think)

We were close to getting knocked out there 2 seasons agon too and went onto win it.

I read the report on todays game that the winger for Luton was sending in plenty of good balls into the box is this right? Just Imagine what Torres & Crouch would be able to do with that service?
I would be good to look to our lower leagues for players i agree.
My friend is a season ticket holder at Swansea City and he says that Paul Anderson oour player there on loan has been Awesome for then too.

Couldn't agree more. Simply an embarassing performance. I think the last time I saw such a performance was away against Porto in the CL.

Scoreline is not that bad if we had been dominating and attacking and they defended in numbers to get the draw. But here it was the other way around! Who cares about Gerrard and Torres not being in the team. WE ARE LIVERPOOL. Our reserve team should be good enough to beat teams like this (no disrespect to Luton). And here we had a team of FULL INTERNATIONALS, except for Itandje only.

Spirit was missing. You wonder if half the team had lost faith with Rafa already? That would be the bigger problem....

It was so painful to watch that game. We just underestimated the hunger that Luton had. They were in the crisis of no pay cheque but on the pitch at a crucial game, they played united. As for LFC, we looked scared and realize it wasn't as easy as they thought. Again, we expected an easy game as i think many would believe we could win anytime we wanted to once we turn on the turbo. But that wasn't the case. Without SG and Torres, we have no leader on the pitch. How dreadful it was to watch because of how bad we played. We play Shlt football. If we had played a more control and better executed games while we were drawed, I would be more willing to accept it is one of those game. But with a performance like that, it would be a joke for us to win any more game. It is obvious there is something wrong with the team inside the locker room. As for Babel, I think he tried to impress too much by doing too much. He should be more selective when he decided to have a go. Having confidence is one thing but he thought he was better than what he really is.....I'm just too upset and can keep bashing on and on. Anyway, hope this is the last horrible performance i would see from them.
