I reckon we have far more chance to win the champions league, than the premiership. Just beacause its a cup comptetition and rank outsiders can do well. Just look at FC porto last year, they were not regarded as likely winners, or monaco who got to the semis. We could beat the likes of these teams with the right 11 out.

The bonus would be to win it, it would shut the mancs up for a long time, and there would be a lot of cash and recognition to come.

Good point but Moanaco were finalist along with Porto. They beat Chelski!

Obviously the CL is far more prestigious than the Premiership, but I'd like to get a league trophy back soon as its been a long time since we have won it now.

I remember back in April/May of 1990 when we beat Coventry 6-1 away on the last day of the season in our last Championship winning year (with Digger getting 3), it looked like we'd carry on dominating into the 1990s.

Its been painful watching ManUre picking up all those titles since, and I want that set straight.

Last season's CL may not be repeated again in a long time as Real had a serious dip in form towards the end of the season, AC Milan was undone by its president's insistence that they play with 2 forwards all of the time which resulted in Ancelotti playing an attacking biased team away from home and got hammered by Deportivo 4-0 (how many times have AC Milan ever lost a game by more than 2 goals?), Chelski losing because of the coach's unnecessary tinkering, Chelsea's Arsenal jinx being broken by that only game, Bayern Munich had an uncharcteristic awful season. In addition, Monaco and Porto had some luck in their respective runs (although you do need your fair share to win the CL) as compared to the bigger teams.

For me, we must be in the CL every year and get past the group stage at least to earn a lot of the money available yet go out early enough at the knock out stage that it will not hamper the Premiership run/form. Ultimately, still need to conquer the Premiership first.

I'd second that Azriahmad.

We need to be competitive in Europe every season with the aim of trying to always get out of the group stages. Meanwhile we should try to challenge for the Premiership.

If we can have a season or two pushing hard at home and being competitive in Europe then our coffers will fill with cash once more and the club will re-build its platform to become a major force in European football once again.

IF we win the champ league over the next few years without winning the league it would feel slightly hollow as we wouldnt have been the champions for about 20 years

And with the new stadium getting the green light ( just waiting for goverment approval ) things are looking up.

Can anyone answer why we are only building a 45,000 seater stadium? Surely we can fill a bigger ground.

A strong winning team will always go for doubles or trebles.

We are a new team under a new manager. Appetite will be big but what we can stomach is only one. I'll take the league 1st. When we mature, we take it together with CL and other cups that we get involve. :D

Begintoend, I think that it takes different strengths to be successful in the Premiership and the CL.

The English game is far more physical wheras the CL games are more tactical, with world class players who can tuck away even half a chance. With the CL format, winning is even much more difficult as it has become quite a marathon.

What is important for Liverpool is to develop its possession play and passing build-up and also at the same time, find more speed in both the defence and the midfield. Until then, we stand a better chance in the Premiership where the majot thing lacking is consistency. The last 2 seasons, we can beat tough opponents but struggle against well-organised teams like Charlton.

I think how much money a club makes in the CL is also dependent on its fan base such as Manure who made some 20 million from the CL, which I think is also contributed by their merchandising. Liverpool has the potential as it too has quite a large fan base. First, we must get the footballing side to improve...

I know i'm going against the rest of the forum's opinion, but I think a champions league win would accelerate our club's return to the big time.  We'd make bucketfuls of cash and the top players will want to join us which would ultimately help bring back the league title.

We need to improve bvy quite a lot especially in the passing, possession and speed aspects of our game if we were to really have the chance of winning the CL. Our defense is way too slow and would be easily caught out by the likes of any of the top strikers in the CL.

Don't forget, in the CL the teams only need half a chance to score and can defend a one goal lead to the death. In the absence of a quicker defense and a creative midfielder, I don't realistically see Liverpool as CL winning material this year. Maybe have a good run, make money and really mount a serious CL campaign from next year onwards.

I don't see the point in building a 45,000 seater ground ,like Man U we will find that it isn't big enough to accomodate the number of people who want to see us play, why not just go for the 60,000 . Surely it would be more cost effective  ???  .

I thought we were building a 60,000 stadium?

manure, even exiting at the early stage of the knockout phase, made almost as much as Monaco (if I am not mistaken) and would have made more money in the CL if they had gone to the final than Porto because apart from the tv money, their 67,000 Old Trafford capacity would guarantee more income for them.

in a way the premiership is harder to win than the champions league. for me personally the premiership is the competition i want to win the most as a supporter. as shanks said, it is the "bread and butter".
