Only quotes so far has been from Athletico officials that says no agreement has been made and no negotiations have been held.

Only quote from the Liverpool camp is when Rafa said Torres is one player we've been looking at.

The rest is as real as santa.
Not seen anything to suggest an agreement has been made.

I think that puts us in the perfect negotiating position to go after Tevez.  We have been fighting tooth and nail about the price, we haven't actually spent any money, we have Torres as a fall back when he come back from holiday, AND Tevez has come out and said he does NOT want to go to Inter and wants to stay in the prem. Before I thought all the Inter players from Argentina would convince him, but now, Mascherano who has gone everywhere with Tevez, has a chance to convince him to come to Liverpool

Well, the Tevez situation is even less clear.

We don't know what kind of deal WH has with Kia which we don't know what say, if any, WH has got.
Then there is the fee. No one knows really what it is.
Then we don't know if Kia prefers a loan or a sale and what a loan would cost.
Then there is what tevez prefer. Noone knows either.

And not once have Tevez or Liverpool been qouted saying anything about being interested.

Just a big ? on this one for now and will stay like that until copa america ends.

Liverpool have given Torres until the 10th of July to decide, if he hasn't we're supposedly calling the deal off.
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

How bad isn't that?
That means we have tied up 20m+ and garcia for 2 weeks!

Now we can't go after tevez or any other striker until Torres decides. Then what if he declines after that?
Most striker targets might be gone by then and we end up with Kone or something like that.

Terrible. We are liverpool and if he really wanted to move to one of the biggest there is he should swim to liverpool and come to Anfield right now accepting the deal.

Couldn't agree more Penguins. He has constantly said he wishes to join us, so why hasn't he signed on the dotted line. And like you said if he ends up declining we will end up with those fellers that silly twit god_bless_john_houlding suggested Lita/Doyle   God I hope he signs for that reason alone if nothing else.

We don't know the minutia of the agreement, IF there is an agreement. So why even jump the gun and second guess our ability to sign other players?

I know.
But IF it is like that and we have an agreement and we are waiting for Torres to decide, waiting until the 10th of July would be very bad.

We will only buy 1 striker this summer with
Crouch, Kuyt, Bellamy, Voronin already here. Probably have to sell 1 also after we've bought the new one.
This means we will only sign Torres if he accepts.
So we will have to wait and bid for any strikers until maybe the 10th of July when Torres decides if he wants to go or not.

And I can also only see problems having tied up 20m+ and Garcia's future for 2 weeks. Better to get things done so Rafa knows how much money will be spent on the striker and how much will be left for other positions.

Might be the case that Tevez has agreed terms with someone but the Argentine team management have asked him not to comment until after the Copa America so he, and the team can stay focused?

There's a million ways of looking at all these situations. As I've said before I simply dont accept that Torres is lying on the beach and doesnt feel the need to go put pen to paper to secure a whacking great weekly wage... would you? Daft eh?

Don't you think Rafa knows what he wants?

Since we don't know the agreement that is APPARENTLY in place, we shouldn't jump to conclusions about how we would be constrained in our attempts to sign other strikers. You make posts that assume this date is set in stone, "now we can't go after Tevez or any other striker". We don't know if its true or what the agreement is so why even say things like that?

Sorry, like I said my argument is only under the asumption that we must wait until the 10th of July for Torres to make up his mind.

If there is no such agreement, then there is no argument.

As far as we know Torres could be one big smokescreen since noone in the Liverpool camp has said anything of value about Torres.

Speaking of other transfers what happened with the transfer of Yossi Benayoun from WHUFC? We were meant to have tablled a bid of £1 million but then it all went quiet...can anyone shed any light?

I read that West Pork wanted 4.5M for Yossi's Giants and that put off LFC.

So Sven wants him now.

I just wish we could sell Cisse and Bellamy and sign Huntelaar too.

Then I'd be happy with Voro, Torres, Huntelaar, Kuyt and Crouchie.

But surely you guys don't believe for one second that Torres hasn't already made up his mind to come to Liverpool? This deal has dragged on a fair while now. It seems VERY unlikely (to me) that the club would carry out such a protracted attempt to buy the player if they hadn't already received strong assurances (of his desire to play for the club) from the player himself.

If we land torres, we are a quarter of a way to a championship squad. Quality IN Quantity is required and seemingly close to complete.
