To the guy of the youtube clip. In a youtube clip you don't put the missed chances, so I don't know how you can say his finishing is excellent.

Look, I was pretty confident with Morientes and he failed. I would like to tell you he's gonna be the next Owen but he isn't, and I'm afraid he'll never be.

And about Grayghost comment, to be honest, most of my opinions are based on the times I've seen him live, in TV, I see him less often, but I don't know how he could impress you with the amount of goals he scored, if you bear in mind that every season he scores 4 or 5 penalties!! and he's scoring about 14 goals in the liga!!

About St Mick's post, well, the "The thing is Sabre" bit is genuine :D I hope.

Torres goal tally is not perhaps good enough for his time in the Spanish league. But Liverpool is not in the Spanish League. If Rafa is willing to throw almost £30million at him, you can be damn sure it won't be for just a name. Maybe Rafa has seen in Torres a character, and a degree of talent and skill that will suit the premiership perfectly. We haven't, as I've stated, always been sure about our signings of late and they have always, gone above and beyond. In fact, signings that we are all generally happy about seem to end up pants! See the list:

Luis Garcia - Too light-weight, will never cut it for Liverpool. Scored crucial Champions League goals and around 10 league goals in his first Premiership season.

Crouch - Freak of nature with a poor tally. More suited to Championship and yo-yo teams. Now an England regular, top scorer for the club, a model professional and probably worth twice as much as what we paid for him.

Pennant - Thug, bad attitude. Been as good as gold and possibly our player of the CL final.

Alternatively...

Morientes - "World Class" and cheap as chips. Couldn't score, couldn't run, extremely limited and suited only to Spanish football.

Cisse - Lightning quick with excellant goal record. Injury prone, hopeless, bad attitude, all mouth and no goals.

Bellamy - Touted as a very shrewd buy by most, could be the difference. Golfclub.

What I am trying to illustrate is that we, the fans, the viewing public, really know jack-sh1t about it. Think about it. If Rafa thinks Torres is £27million's worth of striker, then we may as well give him a go, especially as there is so much doubt about him. We don't know how much money we have, we can only guess on the "list" of players that Rafa has and we really don't know what will be will be. Let us wait and see. The proof of the pudding is, as they say, in the eating. The proof of the player is in the playing.

I think if Milito is available for the same price or less, we should get him instead of Torres as Milito is much more deadly around the goal. His shooting skill and instinct is much better than Torres. Torres is a good player but not great. Although he is younger but that doesn't mean anything other than a better excuse for the team to jag up the transfer fees. Hope we don't make a transfer just for the sake of it. Especailly with that kind of money. Otherwise, we wouldn't have anything left to fill out the remaining needs which are couple of real winger.

you could compile a video of ronaldo, shearer and owens misses and make them out to be poor finishers

what the you tube clips show me of Torres is he is a cool finisher

if you watch kuyt or cisse you tube clips what you work out is they are "blasters".....watching torres he is a place, cool finisher

I wish we brought Owen. He's one of the best finishers I've seen. You can lose pace if you like, but not that natural ability to score. In Newcastle he's been unlicky with injuries, but, that's what the doctors of Liverpool are paid for, they should examine the player and buy him if he's able to play, because he's class.

but i think we need a forward like torres aswell

someone who is pure technique, creative, has flair and can do the impossible........(much like luis garcia really without giving the ball away so much)

Atletico Madrid have given their clearest indication that Fernando Torres could leave the club and that Diego Forlan could be his replacement.

With Liverpool said to have made their interest in the highly-rated striker known, the Spanish club are now playing a waiting game.

Atletico official Miguel Angel Gil Marin admitted he was aware of The Reds' desire to sign Torres and said that one of his jobs this summer could be to look for a replacement.

"Nobody is essential," Gil Marin told Punto Radio.

"We are trying to build a team to compete and it is not about any one player and, good though he is, we want a squad that achieves its ambitions.

"Atletico is creating a side that is not all about Torres, but about the team itself.

"I would love Fernando to stay, but it is Fernando himself who will decide his future.

"We have talked to him and told him that he is in our plans. It is normal that he has doubts.

"It is also normal that there are offers that has caused him to stop and think.

"Things in football can change at any time and, although I do not see anything happening yet, I have to continue to work on looking for alternatives in case all this talk becomes a reality."

Despite all the rumours, Gil Marin holds out hope that Torres will reject Liverpool's overtures and commit himself to the club where he came through the youth ranks.

However, the approach to sign Forlan from Villarreal will continue even if Torres stays, according to Gil Martin.

"The deal that we are trying to do for Forlan is to give Fernando a partner in attack, but it may also be to use him as his replacement," Gil Marin said.

"Torres knows that he is wanted at Atletico and, as far as I know, he wants to stay."

After a meeting with his club and agent, it is believed that Forlan has decided to snub potential interest from the Premier League to remain in Spain.

Aston Villa and Sunderland have both been linked with the former Manchester United forward.

Sounds like they are paving the way to break the news to the fans.

Not being funny Sabre, but i'm sure there are plenty of spanish that like Torres, on this board to often we seem to judge spanish players by the word of Sabre, Why? i just get fed up of "We won't get him" He's not Owen" and "It's unrealistic we are dreaming", Why is it always the same thing? we should expect to get the top players this is Liverpool, we sell ourselfes short most of the time it almost sounds like we put our club down.

You're removing a weight off my back, to be honest.

Well I don't think the people takes my word too seriously because I never rated Torres, and we keep reading Buy Torres.

But yes, I agree, I'm just a Spaniard that knows some footie, and I'm right sometimes and other times I'm totally wrong, just like if I ask you a question about liverpool Bigmick, Stu or yourself can be wrong.

I intend to give information, not the official judgement of a player. I agree that bit completely with you, I'm just a poster. But, not being funny, I just don't know if what follows next to that bit applies for me aswell, because I tend to be patient and I don't tend to sell ourselves short (I think)

:)

P.S. Ask Huck aswell, he knows his football and he's from Madrid.

mistyred...

i agree with you on torres,

some say he's  missed a few chances this season...

or he aint good enough for liverpool...

ok torres by his standard's  has had an average season at best...

but tbh  madrid have not helped the matter,  they were shocking this season...

look at our strike force right now,  and anyone tell me fernando torres isnt good enough for liverpool...

its very clear torres wants to leave,  i even think he's  told them he wants to join liverpool...

madrid are now saying the team isnt just about torres,  they have completely changed there stance...

i expect torres's  agent to make a statement by the end of the week...  :)

To be fair to Sabre he is only giving his opinion, I hope he's wrong if we sign Torres (I am sure Sabre does too). I don't expect Torres to be our main striker, I am hoping that Benitez sees him more as the creative second striker that we have sorely missed, with Kuyt played further forward getting the bulk of the goals. Certainly from his previous goal record to have him as our main striker would be a gamble. 15 goals a season (inc pens) is certainly not prolific.

Exactly what i am hoping he is used as, the link between midfield and attack. With his dribbling skills to open up space for the other forwards.
