Michael owen - Up to his usual tricks again

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Reminds me of the saying
'If you want a friend, buy a goldfish, if you want loyalty, buy a dog.'
Michael Owen looks after Michael Owen, he's given Newcastle F-ALL value for money and even though they have a new owner coming in with the resources to create a new era, Owen's going to be off. Just like when Benitez arrived. And some of you guys want him back....     :no

"Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has admitted he is powerless to stop Michael Owen from leaving the club.

Allardyce confirmed Owen has a release clause in his contract allowing him to leave if another club reaches that release fee.

Owen's future at St James' Park has been the subject of some conjecture for some time now with Freddy Shepherd calling on the player to make a public statement of his commitment.

The England international has been coy on his long-term future at Newcastle with the player believed to be keen on a return to the North West.

Allardyce, who has held talks with Owen over his future, accepts the former Liverpool hit-man could move on in the summer.

"If Michael wants to leave, there's nothing I can do about it, especially if another club triggers his release clause," Allardyce told the News of the World.

"At the moment, we are benefiting from a release clause to get Joey Barton.

"But we could also suffer because of Michael's clause."

Liverpool are thought to be monitoring Owen's situation with the player widely believed to be keen on a return to Anfield.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are being credited with an interest in Barcelona's Ludovic Giuly.
Giuly is expected to leave Barcelona at the end of the season after being told he does not figure in their long-term plans.

A number of French clubs are believed to be chasing the winger, but Giuly's commercial representative, Sebastien Riera, says Newcastle are interested in the French international.

"Ludo is aware of Newcastle's interest," Riera told the Sunday Sun.

Should The Magpies fail in their attempts to sign Giuly they could turn their attentions to Bolton's El Hadji Diouf."

i wouldnt touch Owen due to his injury problems.
regarding loyalty issues players agents have too much influence and the majority just see pound signs in front of there eyes as opposed to looking after the players best interests.

Is his dad still acting as his agent?

I dont agree with your comment about loyalty - look at Gerrard, Scholes, Henry, Shearer etc.. etc.. many great players have given years of loyalty because the club looked after them and the players repaid that respect  and didnt chase the dragon. Owen has forgotten where his heart lies and who his friends are, he's just a journeyman now - and won sweet fanny adams.

Technically Reg. And surely you should of noticed recently that unless there are direct quotes from Owens mouth we musnt believe anything we read, or we'll get "jumped" on. :p

Michael Owen looks after Michael Owen, good player but, one hell of a proffesional kunt of a person in my book.

very short sighted imo reg. Like many have said before, owen would of loved to have come back, but wasn't able to due to newcastle's extreme over payment. To say he is a journeyman is a little ott. real madrid? most of or players would of gone there then. (ie.2004-05)

He is still a top scorer. Which is what we need. We just need goals.

You seem to forget that stevie g was almost off twice? Just talking to chelsea is enough to question loyalty imo.

He has won sweet fannt adams? i don;t think so. do you forget the fa cup final, alaves, mancs etc?

i seem to feel many on here disregard all the success of houllier because of our number five victory. Owen was class for us and will score the goals we need during a season against the smaller teams away from home.

obviously, this is only my opinion! :p

Owen could have stuck it out at Madrid and not gone to Newcastle, it was Owen who was convinced by Sven that he needed to be playing regularly in order to play at the World Cup that summer. In hindsight it was patently obvious he would be at the world cup given the inclusion of Theo Walcott in the squad.

But Mr Vendetta, it shows that Allardyce is not 100% certain Owen will be at Newcastle for the forthcoming season.

Yes we need goals but in terms of a consistant (no injuries) and potentially more dangerous player (read more effective) I'd prefare Eto'o or Tevez.

Medals - clearly the implication is what he won outside of LFC - he was after a CL winners medal that of course the rest of the lads got in 2005.

Stevie G did indeed nearly leave us, just because he is loyal doesnt mean he cant negotiate the best possible deal for himself.

Owen was a cracker, but his time has passed. He should stay at Newcastle and ride the wave with the new owner - a great time to negotiate a new 3 year deal and get a payrise. He'll see the sense in that I'm sure...  :idea

Cheers

But Mr Anal that means NOTHING unless you can read Owens mind, as he knows what he wants to do, whatever Alladyce says means nothing really.

Its @rsey being Pedantic isnt it.  :no

And of course you couldnt tell the tone of my words through my initial post so I put a smiley at the end, obviously you thought it was aimed at you.

Now you're just arguing against me for the sake of your own vindictiveness.

Had Allardyce spoken to Owen and Owen given him a 100% assurance he would be staying with them, then Allardyce may have come out and said "Owen has given me his assurances that he will be here next season" as oppose to the uncertain comments of "we could also suffer because of Michael's clause".
