I know it's silly season and rumours are always rife but one which has reared it's head a few times is that we will sign Eto'o or even Torres with Xabi Alonso going the other way as part payment. My immediate reaction to this suggestion is one of horror....Xabi Alonso has been one of our most consistant performers over the last three seasons and easily one of the best signings that we have made in the last decade....but would it really be so bad if he went?

Without him, and without anyone. All the men in LFC come, give their service to the club, and retire or go. It's true that LFC is above any especific player. But if we want a competitive deep squad, we need players like Alonso, Gerrard, Carraguer and Mascherano.
The hole that would leave Gerrard is yet to be seen, the hole that left Owen has been seen though, he left to seek glory, and LFC reached 2 CL finals in 3 years. Right?
I'm sure of the latter. In fact he's been rotated this season, hasn't he. Alonso is a professional player, and even accepted the bench in a smaller club, I'm sure he'd understand there's more competition next year.
