LIVERPOOL vs CHELSEA - CL SEMI-FINAL 2ND LEG, BABY!!!!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

quite like the idea of gerrard on the left against chelsea. simply because of the narrow formation they wil undoubtably play tomorrow. he will be able to get at the right back, either ferreira or diarra doesn't matter; both are suspect, he will then be able to drift into the middle and adding and extra central option to our stealy midfield with a devastating outcome!!!
:p     chelsea = mugs

Just to remind everyone (not put a dampner on things) the last time we felt this confident against Chelsea and made the sort of predictions and statements we have been making this week, we were beaten 4-1 at home.
We play better as underdogs all this confidence worries me and makes me feel like we are being complacent.

Hope to god i am wrong.

I don't think matters how confident we are, it's the team that counts and as long as we get behind them and spur then on, we'll be victorious, and iff we aren't we'll stuff em in the 2nd leg! :eyebrow

So do I ace, bit I feel this there for us to lose. The more I look at it the more stronger we seem to be compared to them.

We need to score at the Bridge and I really think we will

I am not just talking about us fans, i am talking about the players as well, and also Rafa.
I prefer it when players say nothing and we leave it until the game, nobody has said anything OTT but even Alonso making comments that we respect them but dont fear them worries me. I actually want us to fear them, i want us to go into the game thinking we have to fight with every last bit of energy for every challange, like we did 2 seasons ago.
I know they are only comments but to me it is showing signs of complacency.

I disagree. We shouldn't fear them. If we go into a game fearing them, we might as well wave the white flag and give up. I want them to go into the game, knowing we can win but also being cautious. At the end of the day, there professionals with alot of experience behind them.

Well Xabi seems pretty confident

From SSN:

Alonso is confident Liverpool can get a good result at Stamford Bridge and finish off the job at Anfield next week.

"Sincerely, there is nothing about the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge that intimidates us," Alonso told the Mirror.

"I don't know why we haven't had good results there in the past.

"I believe in my team and in my team-mates. I'm sure we can beat them in the same way we did in the Premiership earlier this season. We will win if we are better than Chelsea with tactics, technically, and physically.

"They are the secrets to winning this tie. We have shown we can beat them in semi-finals, and facing them gives us a special kind of motivation."

Alonso also believes Liverpool have an ace up their sleeves in the shape of manager Rafa Benitez, with the Spaniard having masterminded wins over Jose Mourinho's men in the last two semi-final meetings between the two clubs.

"Chelsea always suffer against us, particularly from the presence of Rafa Benitez who has had great success against them since he has been in charge," added Alonso.

"Benitez never lets them have a comfortable match against us. I do not believe it is fear but is certain that it is in Chelsea's minds when they have to play against us.

"We have defeated Chelsea over two semi-finals in the Champions League and last season's FA Cup and now we can make it a third time.

"This tie will be a war of strategies. The team who has more of the ball will win and I am confident that will be Liverpool.

"We arrive at the game with a lot of confidence and belief and we are playing our best football of the season.

"From my arrival at Liverpool, the matches against Chelsea are always special with a lot of tension and fight. The rivalry is fierce but the victories are to savour."

No its not waving the white flag, fearing someone is knowing that they can hurt you if your not 100% focused, it keeps people on there toes.
We went into the semi two years ago feeling inferior and it served to get extra out of the players, the underdog mentality, it fires players up.
I am not seeing that this week.

I know what you mean Ace. It usually works in our favour when we go into games as underdogs but i think that label is starting to become thread bare now. Chelsea have seen too many times what we are cappable of and theres no way they will be over confident. As for us fearing them i can't see that happening either. We've beaten them too many times latley and should have beaten them at SB earlier in the season. I think both sets of fans and neutrals are expecting this to be very close and one random goal could win it for either team.
