CL QF/SF DRAW. FRIDAY 11.00 GMT - PSV Eindhoven

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby LFC_fan » Wed Mar 07, 2007 1:42 pm

Correct me if i'm wrong but Uefa draws both the champs league quarters and semis together cause i remember the whole build up 2 years ago when we drew juve in the quarters and chelsea drew PSV and there was all this build up of an all english semi final. well, anyway, along with us, 3 other teams have qualified so far, namely valencia, chelski and roma.

Barring huge upsets, the other 4 teams should be Scum, milan, arsenal (i think they'll win tonight) and bayen/real (too close to call for this one)

I personally would like to advoid an english team, especially the scum and arsenal (if they qualify). Losing twice in a week in two different cup competitions (conceding 9 goals in the process, abiet with dudek in goal) has really shaken my confidence against arsenal. Call it superstition or whatever, but i'll rather much advoid arsenal for the quarters if they do get pass PSV tonight. As for the Mancs, i want to do them in the final, :censored: their a55e5 so bad, and wipe that silly grin off fergie's face.

As for the non- english teams, they all seem rather even in terms of strength although most people would probably think roma would be the weakest of the lot. But given a choice, i'll rather not face italian opposition, be it roma or milan though i would prefer them over english opposition any day. Best senario would be either bayern (assuming they get pass madrid) or valencia. those 2 may not be the "weakest" of the teams left in the competition but imo, at this stage of the champs league, relative "strength" of teams count for nothing. How they perform over the 2 games , whether they will come out guns blazing or simply choke in the high tension and the tatics used to counter the opponents strenghts and to take advantage of their weaknesses are the factors that really affect the outcome.

Valencia would be a dream quarter final tie IMO. what with benitez, momo, aurelio and morientes facing their old teams and rafa knowing them inside out ( he probably knows what kind of toilet paper they have in the toilets in the mastella) Some people will bauk at more spanish opposition and point out that players like villa and joaquin are too hot to handle etc.. but we handled the likes of ronaldinho and messi pretty well.

the other  team i fancy facing in the quarters is bayern (really hoping they overcome madrid) no idea why i fancy meeting them, but we beat a german team en route to the 2005 triumph so why not again in 2007?

anyway, my dream tie would be liverpool vs valencia. imagine what a night it would be at anfield.  :buttrock

the draw's on friday so in the meantime, lets sit back and enjoy tonight's matches, cause as they say it, the cat's already in the bag and our name's already in the hat for the draw. bring on number 6! :buttrock

Bayern or Madrid is who Id like to draw, both having poor seasons by their standards and I think we would beat either of them comfortably.

i'll like bayern too but not for that reason, after all, we were doing :censored: in the primership the season we won in istanbul. If memory serves me right, juve, chelski and milan were rubbing their hands in glee when they got us en route in the tournament but look what we did to them.  :D

though i dont really care who we draw (other than we advoid an english team for now), i personally enjoy speculating about such things before the draw. Hey, we got through, we deserve it, barca fans dont have anything to talk about regarding this season's champions league after last night.  :eyebrow

well, gerrard doesnt want an english team either.

STEVIE: CARRA IS WORLD'S BEST

Jamie Carragher is the best defender in the world according to friend and teammate Steven Gerrard.
Anfield witnessed another defending masterclass from Carra against Barcelona on Tuesday as some of the best players in the world tried and failed to overturn Liverpool's first leg lead.

Last season the defender declared he wouldn't swap Gerrard for Ronaldinho – now the skipper has returned the favour.

"Over the two legs, Carra has been phenomenal," said Gerrard. "Maybe there are a few outside Liverpool who are surprised by how good he's been, but it's no surprise to me or anyone else who has seen him just get better and better every season.

"I look around at the defenders across Europe and the rest of the world, and I really don't see anyone who's better than him. I definitely wouldn't swap him for anyone.

"I also know the England manager was in the crowd last night, and after seeing a performance like that, it's going to make his next team selection very interesting.

"But as well as Carra, I think all the lads deserve credit for the way we got through. Daniel Agger is an unbelievable talent for his age, Steve Finnan was magnificent in both games and Alvaro Arbeloa has come into the side and done a great job straight away."

Meanwhile, Gerrard claims he doesn't care who the Reds draw in the last eight on Friday.

"Last night was fantastic, but to really put it up there with the greatest European nights, I think we have to make it count and keep this going," he said.

"If we can go all the way, we'll look back and say this was one of our best ever achievements, knocking out the holders. But if we go out in the next round, it won't mean as much.

"I think I'd rather not play an English team next, but I don't really care. After Barcelona, we're ready for anyone."

Ah, another day, another Blueshite conspiracy. The Bluekipper boys have convinced themselves that the G14 will arrange for us to draw Valencia, who will then be drummed out of the tournament so we get a bye to the semis. Like clockwork.

I don't think i would be able to handle lossing out to the scum again. I hope they draw a good team at OT for the first game and get knocked out. Hopefully PSV will put Arsenal out tonight because they have been a bad team for us this year. I would be confident against anyone else on our day. I would like to see us draw Chelsea because i think they are starting to struggle a bit and after the way we beat them at Anfield i'm confident we could do them. Hopefully we will be drawn away first whoever it is.

Ciggy drawing them now would be preferable than say the final. purely on the mayhem that would ensue from both sides.

After the last two games against Barca ,i can honestly say that we should fear nobody. If we play the same way and get a little bit more luck infront of goal we can win this trophy once again. One thing i don't doubt atall is that absolutly no one would want to draw us. That's a fact.

really  ???

I hate them with a passion, but struggling they are not.

They've played 10 games since losing to us: won 9 of them, and drew the other away to Porto. They are not struggling.

When we last played them, they had no Terry, no Carvelho,  (no recognised centrebacks at all) no Makelele and they played very badly. they wont play that poorly against us again.

--

Personally, I'd like Roma, Bayern, Madrid or PSV (if they get through), basically not an english team.

I know to be the best, you have to beat the best... (but there is no harm in letting say utd knockout chelsea or arsenal in the next round before we have to play 'em.)
