Lucas neill

Did anyone actually watch any games not involving England in the World Cup?? Lucas Neill was one of the best players in Germany and played centre back for Hiddink. He was clearly better than any of the rubbish defenders England had on show .... including 'ball-watcher' Terry and 'how the hell did I ever get to play international football?' Neville.

I think Neill will be a tremendous asset for Liverpool if he signs and he can clearly follow team instructions to play out of his normal position.

diao & diouf also had good world cups in 2002

we should stop the world cup as a form guide. so many players had a poor world cup but it doesn't make them :censored: terry is a good defender, even as a red i can admit he is good

so ronaldinho is :censored: now because of his poor 5 games with a team which isn't together as a team for longer than 4 weeks? will barcelona offload him a.s.a.p because of it? no

and if neill was so good how come he missed the shortlist for the golden ball. vince grella from australia was there but not lucas neill. and this was drawn up by the fifa technical commitee

Funnily enough, Xavier was the first player that popped into my head when reading Taff's new thread on Liverpool's worst 11 of all time!  :D

Yeah, he was especially fantastic in injury time against Italy going to ground an eon before Grosso arrived with the ball and giving up an idiotic penalty.  I'm sure Terry, JC, Rio or Campbell would have done the same though!  :O

there's still rumours about this deal going through before the deadline.

i'm not too happy about it to say the least but it's still blatantly obvios that finnan needs some serious competition for his place. as far as i'm concerned, kromkamp is never going to realistically do this.

Australia conceded 1 goal v Japan - goalie clearly (blatently) fouled
                           2 goals v Brazil (1 clearly offside)
2 goals v Croatia (good old Poll!!!!!!)
1 goal v Italy (1 penalty, clearly no foul, great dive)

so I reckon the ledger is just about even! :p

so this attack on england - wonder which country you support

Lived in Sydney for 20 years so follow both countries but Liverpool are my first love :D

Anyway, can't see that there's time to complete the signing before the deadline so it ay be pretty academic anyway!

Skysports.com can reveal that Liverpool have lodged a bid for Lucas Neill.

The Reds are now waiting to hear from Blackburn as to whether or not they are willing to do business.

Neill is entering the last year of his contract and has made it clear to Rovers that he is highly unlikely to be signing a new deal.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is keen to bolster his defensive options and that fact that Neill can play anywhere across the back four is sure to appeal.

Neill was outstanding during the World Cup finals for Australia, where he operated in central defence - while during his time at Blackburn he has established himself as one of the most competent defenders in The Premiership.

Blackburn are keen to keep Neill, but they are already looking at alternatives with Manchester City's Danny Mills top of their list.

Mills is keen to secure regular first team football and Mark Hughes is keen to offer him the chance of a move to Ewood Park.

The likes of Tottenham and Newcastle are also keen to land Neill, but Liverpool look very much in pole position to secure his signatur

Lucas Neil is a liability.  Kronkamp isn’t good enough but neither is Lucas Neil.

i wouldnt mind him on the cheap.. seeing as he's only got 1 year left on his contract - and has stated that he maynot be at blackburn after next year.

As a player he is ok but i'd have him nothing more as a back up to finnan because carra/hyypia has to be first choice with both Dagger and palletta waiting in the wings

  - but again he is another one who has to watch his temperament - he gets sent off every season, and averages a yellow card every 3 games

from soccernets profile on lucus Neill:

Neill was sent off twice in the 2003/04 campaign and the first, picked up against Liverpool, caused much controversy. He went in very late on defender Jamie Carragher, breaking the player's leg and ruling him out for months.

Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier was furious with Neill for the lunge.

Houllier stormed. 'Blackburn have lost a player for three games and we have lost one for six months. You know as well as I do how important Carragher is to my team.'

In his second game back from suspension, Neill was duly sent off in a Carling Cup tie against... Liverpool.

so i wonder what Carra thinks of him? ????
