Fsv mainz 05 v liverpool - Pre-season friendly

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby REDTILLDEAD » Fri Aug 04, 2006 10:06 pm

To many people on here are trying to "brush these last three results" under the carpet...be honest with yourselves would you regard this as a "pre-season hicup"...I would be a bit more concerned myself. ???

Come on mate, it wasn't a disaster, everyone else thinks getting battered 5-0 is funny and acceptable  :;):  :p

I don't find it acceptable but would you rather that happened in an important match or a friendly?

You really think we're out of the title race because we got beat in a friendly match 5-0? Well arent you the positive one!  :D

If we keep defending like we have done in preseason do you really think it won't effect the teams confidence  ???

Maybe I'm a bit harsh but 5-0 is a farse, remember we play Chelsea in a week

But the result doesnt mean anything and we havent put much effort into getting the right result, if we had really truly tried hard to win and lost 5-0 then it would really affect their confidence but we havent, its just a run out that means nothing, it will be completely different when we start the competitive games, im not saying it isnt a bad thing to lose 5-0 but its not as bad as some people are making out

Come on GOAT, all games are played to win, thats part of being a professional football, I'm not saying that they went out to get beat but for Liverpool Football Club to get beat 5-0 in any match, preseason or not is unacceptable!  :(

Well yeah all the games are played to win but you cant say that the lads went out in this friendly today with the same determination to win as they will on wednesday... yeah to lose 5-0 is too much but i think people are overreacting about the result a bit, im not saying it gives us positives going into the new season but losing like this hasnt shown much about how the team will do this season, when the time comes im sure we will be ready

I'm not brushing anything under the carpet, I just don't think it's all doom and gloom, if someone just passing by was to take a few minutes and read some of the comments from people on here, they'd think our season was over and we've been relegated.

5-0 ?

It's a pre-season friendly you a.rse. Why get upset about it? It's understandable if it's a competitive match, but a friendly.  ???

Only a friendly ? We play a vital qualifier this week and have lost 3 times on the bounce to mediocre oppostion.
You can call me an a@se if you want, but i am a liverpool supporter and losing 1-0 in a game hurts, never mind f'cking 5, all you's putting your little smiley faces on posts stating the result doesn't matter are wrong.
Losing is a bad habit to get in to, as is conceding goals and we are doing both.
No matter who you are playing or what the stakes are....anyone who has a bit about them is desperate to win the game, it could be a game of 5 a side with the lads or a cup final...either way you dont want to lose...and if you do its not a joke...only a born loser...or someone who doesnt care would think that way, imo you are probably both.

I reckon the club should release the results from training sessions, this way all you can worry your asses off about those results as well.

I see no difference between the two. 5-0 is a bit emberassing but the fact of the matter is that we conceded goals as soon as certain individiuals came on in the game who just happened to f#ck up in the previous games.

When did worrying change anything? By sitting here and moaning about a meaningless result [imo because nobody really will give a :censored: about it at the end of the season], will that change anything?

Will the moaning, whinning,b!tching, change the mistakes made by the younger lads in the game five minutes from time?

The f#ck it will. My heart rate goes through the rough when we play regural games, but we're debating pre-season friendlies.

I reckon we should sack Benitez. Bring back Diouf and Cheyrou, winning pre-season games is all that matters.

[/sarcasm]

There's three things we should be discussing:

-the link up play between key players, at times the interplay between Pennant,Bellamy,Gerrard,etc.. was top notch
-the fact that our key players have gotten some game time ahead of the match on Wed.
-the fact that we've gained fitness and haven't picked up any long term or major injuries.

Now I suggest that all of you stop f#cking yourselves to death about this game, because it will change nothing.

This reaction is not a surprise really, when we won all of our friendlies last season there were loads of people complaining because we weren't playing well enough in PRE-SEASON.

I doubt that any of those people looked back at the season and said "F#ck me, the highlight of the season was beating all of them teams in pre-season eh"

Like I said earlier, bring on Haifa, I'm sure Rafa will have the boy's ready to play now that he has worked out the glitches, besides, any team has a shot when they can change up their whole squad during the game.  This just means that our bench may not be 1. as deep as some other squads or 2. that our bench isn't used to playing against some "better" comeptition.

The point is it shouldn't be happening at all!.. at this stage of our pre-season friendlies we should have a  settled team capable of taking care of the likes of these lesser teams.

A total over-reaction. You sound like a goth or some fool that walks around thinking the world is ending. It's a friendly. Germany lost 5-1 to England in a qualifier and then went on to the final of the World Cup.

If Liverpool win on weds, against Chelsea next weekend and then get off to a winning start in the league, this "poor" pre-season will be forgotten.

Only a loser would cry and get the a.rse over a pointless friendly.

I am not crying, i am p!ssed off.

I may be happy if/when we get through the qualifiers and beat Chelsea but thats beside the point.
We are Liverpool FC and dont like losing to anyone, let alone 5-0 that is embarassing. It may not have an effect on how we start the season, but we have a little thing called pride to think about.
WTF has my post got to do with goths ? I never hinted the world was ending, i stated that being murdered by a german mid table side was a major set back. The last time i remember losing like that in a friendly it was against Ajax (when they were European champions) but you probably supported someone else then.

GOOD NEWS :

"Charlton have reportedly agreed a double swoop for Liverpool defender Djimi Traore and Newcastle midfielder Amdy Faye.
Skysports.com claims that Addicks boss Iain Dowie, who wants to add a further five new faces to his squad before the beginning of the Premiership campaign, has struck a deal for the pair."

Well yeah i agree with you there, it does damage our pride to lose 5-0 to a german mid table team but it happened, doesnt mean anything whatsoever, so we now have to move on and hope we get the results when it matters instead of when it doesnt

Pro Footballers are funny buggers, just wait to see the difference next week... These type of "friendlies" are a phenomenon of the past few years, lesser teams from abroad sieze their chance to play one of the big boys and our lads are just thinking about not getting a daft injury in a meaningless (yes, it really means nothing) game. The players literally are treating the games as training. They get told when they're coming off or going on before the game starts and the mamager sticks with whatever plan he devised beforehand. If Rafa looked like he was panicking in one of these games how would that come across?
Come Wednesday night they'll be ready...... :nod
