The old Gerrard Lampard disscussion, Im not to bothered of how a few rages rate em. I'd rather go by my own opinion.

In a nutshell, what Lampard posseses in an attacking sense to the any midfield Gerrard posseses that and a whole lot more, simple as. There of course is another side to a quality midfielders game, and that is to get stuck into the tackle and have the ability to do his defensive duties well. Which of course Stevie can do and Lampard cant.

In another nutshell :D  having Lampard in the midfield is hindering the dynamics of the team, I think the team would produce and function alot better with the right player alongside Gerrard. In saying that though there isnt anyone really maybe (Scott Parker) Sven wouldnt have the balls to bring in  a typically good grafter and drop a show pony like Lampard anyway. I think the defence is okay and once the midfield get it together particulary the CM the team will perform alot better.

That wasnt a nutshell, more like a coconut-shell :D

I saw Lampard being interviewed by Lineker a couple days ago. Lineker mentioned about SG playing the holding role whilst he was allowed to go forward. Lampard said that this isn't true, as they both fill the role equally and they take it in turns to go forward or hold up the defence.............. WHAT A BUNCH OF :censored:! I couldn't believe he said that.

Until Rooney comes back into the side, Gerrard is far and away England's most dangerous and creative player. However once again we'll see his talents completely wasted whilst Lampard wastes another load of shots from 30 yards.

Totally true.

I would despise him if i was in his team, the wmount of times he shoots without looking left or right or for a run from the striker is disgusting. Eriksson or Beckham should be having words, it breaks down attacks in promising positions all the time.

To be fair Gerrard was wasteful as well against Paraguay, but i hope thats a one off due to frustration, Lampard does it every game for club and country...one goes in and he is a hero. People need to look at the bigger picture and the detrimenatal effect it has on the team.

For me, if England lost Gerrard to injury, the midfield would suddenly be a lot less formidable. If England lost Lampard, we'd actually be a better team.

The thing is that, even if Lampard coasts through games and is wasteful with long-range shots, he will inevitably score before the subject of dropping him comes up. He's like a walking analogy for Chelsea - at times anonymous, second best for periods, and then pops up with a goal.

thats ok iv ur a striker do nothink all game then pop up wiv a goal, but to be a center mid and play :censored:. the whole team doesnt play well wen that happens. e.g the other day a football game is won or lost in the middle ov the park.

Quick sidetrack...

Txt talk winds me up (and the mods - see the forum rules), but what I don't understand is saying "ov" instead of "of". It's not like it's quicker. :D

He is right though, popping up with a goal may be useful and catch the eye, but at the end of the day his job as a midfielder should be about a whole lot more than that.
It should be about dictating the pace and tempo of games through keeping posession. It should be about being in the right positions to (a) break up attacks (b) start attacks quickly bringing the wide players and forwards into play.
Lampard doesnt do either of these things and his whole game is based on doing whats best for Frank Lampard, not the team.
Scott Parker should of been in the England squad and the team, in the position Gerrards in with Stevie further forward.
That might sound biased towards our skipper but i bet if Stevie played further forward he would still sit if Parker went. Lampard doesnt do that and if Stevie goes, the whole midfield are caught out of position.
Popping up with a goal does not paper over the cracks with me.

There is only one Stevie Gerrard.
One of the very best players that Liverpool and the rest of the world have ever seen.

There is no comparison and when you have the best who needs the rest.
