Harry kewell - Too little too late for me

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Mark 23 » Sun May 07, 2006 5:24 am

BBC website has a rumour that he is going to a Spanish side for around the 4m mark.  I'm sure I have said in the past that his wages are too high and the boy Gonzalez looks well better.  Although the lad has been good this season, he just isn't the player he was at Leeds.

I think fans were fickle, they hated him Carling Cup final, CL Final, and then he produces the goods for 10-15 games and we love him agin.  He is a crock and we should get rid while he is still going.  He is like an old car.

I'd like to see how far people agree with me, that despite some good performances, he isn't what we want.

Are you drunk or something?  Do you think we paid his wages for the past few years through the bad times to sell him for a loss just when he comes good?  Kewell played out of his skin and I credit him with leading Liverpool to victory over Chelsea in the semi final.

Kewell is working hard and getting back to the form he showed at Leeds.  As a player when you come off a long injury or a bad spell, playing football becomes a laborious task, but when the first goal comes in (for me at least because I play as a striker) or you absolutely skin geremia and ferreira down the wing, and generally have a solid game, then you build confidence, and when your confidence is high you become a better player, your passes find their targets and believe it or not.  You start to have fun out there!!  This is where Kewell is, he's finally over the hump and having fun again!!

Why would we even think of selling him? If someone must be sold who would you choose? A premiership proven player that if sold would represent a loss, or an unproven talent that could be sold for a profit?  Naturally I'd love to see Gonzalez come to LFC, but am merely trying to articulate what a crazy rumor and perspective this is coming from.\

Final Verdict: Kewell - LFC Player for the forseeable future

I cant believe that you would start this topic after the season that he has had, one of our most consistent performers for the season.  You say that fans are too fickle for taking Kewell back into their heart after this season, i actually agree with you to some degree. They were fickle to doubt him in the first place!
Kewell has proven his class, injury-free he has shined and staked his claim on the left wing (even if Zenden didnt get injured he still would have started 80% of games). I am not sure that Gonzalez will displace him as easy as you may think, both of them can play either wing, striker or attacking midfield so i think that there is plenty of room for both of them.
I would love to see these two cause havock the way that Robben and Duff used to, swapping wings and seeming to pop up out of no where.

Kewell has said many times last year that he wasnt feeling 100% fit and now he has said he is feeling fit and his performances have been awesome. Harry kewell may not have played well for a few seasons but he is reapying us now

Is Kewell injured???

I'm In australia and we dont get much covergae on injuries and stuff, just match results and 2 or 3 LIVE games a week.

How bad is is injury, how long on sidelines. Will he play the FA cup?

Harry has come through his dark days at anfield with all the stick he got he has shown that he has heart and the manager has stood by him when everyone wanted his alice band spouting head on a stick

he has been a mom contender in nearly every game since being at 90% his words not mine  and i would like to see the auzzies go out early so he has a rest and comes back raring to fight for his place with speedy gonzales

So you would be happy to see Kewell go for 4mil?
and who could we get to replace him for that amount?
Gonzales is coming next season but he's gona need time to gel with the team and find his feet in the epl.

Nonsense thread.

Kewell has been one of our top 2 or 3 performers consistently since Christmas.  A year ago there was an argument for selling him but not now, no chance.  Recently I'd argue his all round performances have been just as good as for Leeds.

In fact when you look at it, Kewell was excellent for his first 6 months at Liverpool (scored about 10 goals I think) and he has been excellent in his last 6 months for us.  These are the only 2 times the lad has been totally injury free, how people fail to recognise that the lad is quality when his physical condition allows it I don't know.

Fact - Benitez will not sell Kewell.  There is room for him in the team even when Gonzalez arrives.  Clearly Benitez rates Kewell, he's started almost every game this season when he's been fit to play and when it comes to the big games he always plays.  And what a sh.it rumour in the papers - 4 million?  Even if we were to sell him his true value in today's market is easily double that.

I would be very surprised if we sold Kewell in the summer. I note that the rumours started in the Sunday People or News of the World!! Hardly creditable sources. Kewell has had a fantastic 2nd half to the season.

However, should Rafa choose to sell Kewell I will back/trust him 100%.

When Rafa started Kewell in the CL final, that proved just how much he rated the guy.  Why else risk a player who was 60% fit and hadn't played for months??

Sell him for £4 million? I can't see it.  We need another left winger because Zenden isn't good enough in that position and there is no way he can play 60 matches in that position.  Kewell was the best man onthe park in our Semi final against Chelski and hopfully his injury isn't serious enough to hamper his apearence in the final
