Ex-red to sign for everton

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

For what is worth, everytime he was asked about his red past (press here ask things like that or what he likes eating, or where he spends his nights, we are a small town  ) he always talked great about the atmosphere. Not a bloody single complain or bad word about Liverpool F.C.

I admit I was biased a bit at the beginning, as coming for Liverpool was entering with the right feet :), but he's a very good keeper. Of course he makes some mistakes, but he was responsible  of many points in the time he was in Real Sociedad. I like him more than Riesgo, the keeper that we have now, local as the orthodox want, and good keeper that Rafa apparently likes.

Only that Riesgo is very young, and he has a long career on front.

Westerveld was the closest thing to Grobbs we've had since the nutty b*stard left Anfield.

I remember whenever I got to Anfield, the crazy b*stard virtually strayed to the half-way line during open play. I was cacking my freaking pants whenever we lost the ball!!!!!

Good 'keeper, with excellent stopping abilities, but totally insane and a massive risk taker.

Reina is MILES better, IMHO.

Sabre, I have not seen Westerveld playing for Sociedad, probably he did better there than when he played for Liverpool.

You can't say that Houllier (and all of us) had not been patient enough with him, he has an uncanny tencendy to let in soft goals, way too often. For that, Dudek, although still error prone, is better than him and now Reina is better then both of them.

Have to disagree with u on that......

Houllier made a good decision to replace westerveld with dudek.....

Rafa made a good decision to replace dudek with reina.....

Thats how i rate them.

1 i can remember was against barce in the uefa semi at anfield he went to kick the ball and missed it, fortunately it went out for a goal kick but if it had been moving slower then the barce striker would have had an open goal, that could of been costly but fortuantely wernt. fu.cking sh.it meself tho

ave got rsepect for sander what with the treble an that but at the mo i think he is average at best

The main reason Westerveld left is because he fell out with Houllier, Sander used to write a diary on his website and often said things that GH didn't like, thus him getting sold.  :(

We all might be right. Players have bad and good seasons. There are some players that might respond well in a mid team, but perhaps not that well in top teams. I have little doubts you're right about his mistakes, but I defo didn't see a goalie that was like Grobbs there...

In the times he played for Liverpool, I didn't watch many Liverpool EPL games  , I used to do so in the nineties, when EPL games were given freely in the Basque public TV, then it came the digital advancement era, which means I had to pay for what I had seen for free all my life. And in those Westerveld times I followed Liverpool through press and some european games. Thank god, I know have the internet.

Westerveld isn't a bad goalkeeper.....but the fact he's sturggled to hold down a regular 1st team place at any club since his time here tells the story
“You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.”

I was a big fan of Sander when he was here. He was possibly one of the best shot stoppers in the Premiership. He had a few dodgy decisions but that seems to be a problem with all our keepers. Also in Fowlers autobiography he says Westerveld was forced out when he questioned Houlliers tactics, so he will defo get a cheer from me if he plays against us.   :buttrock

I thought Sander was brilliant for us. He was a good shot stopper, cross taker and organised our defence during the time we have the best defensive partnership of sami and henchoz. But he fell out with houllier and houlier got rid. Note that Sander's last game for us was against bolton at the reebok where he let a shot sneak underneath him in the dying seconds.

Then when dudek went through his bad patch former players said that houllier went to jerzy and said "you know what happened to sander." and dudek almost got forced out himself.

Definately the best moment I remember when sander was playing for us was those 3 penalties he saved in the shoot out with Birmingham in the Worthington Cup final in Cardiff, during the treble season. Believe it or not he saved the decisive penalty from one andy johnson, who was aged 20 at the time and now he is 24 and a palace. That was my first ever final I had been to, I must have been 7 or 8 at the time. I remember after we had won sander took off his shirt and threw it in the crowd near to where I was sitting, it landed about 4 rows infront of me. The memories are still fresh though despite my relatively young age at the time.

Just somes up what a joke Everton are as a club really. I mean c'mon, what keeper in the world would get injured before a match playing in a goal that clearly said 'Do not practice in the goal'? Then they buy Westerveld. I hope it's not icy in Everton's next game...we wouldn't want any ice on the ball would we!?

Sander always talked like a red, when he talked about the Anfield fans.

In Anoeta *I* invented a shout that became popular in my stand  it was with AC DC song thunderstrike, the one that is

OOOOO OOOOO OOO Sander! OOOOOOO OOOOO OOOO Sander!

as in Spanish sounded similar to Thunder! :D
