There's no question the job he's done at wigan is absolutely astounding. He's right up there with Allardyce in that he has done it on limited resources and by acquiring good players on the cheap. For those of us who laughed off the Jimmy Bullard for Liverpool suggestions of a couple of months ago today was a bit of an eye opener. I thought he was superb today, the best player on view and very unfortunate to finish on the losing team.
Jewell for Liverpool? Well I hope Rafa does stay for at least five or six years at least. At the moment though, I'd take Jewell to be a frontrunner if any vacancy did arise.

I thought Rafa wanted to stay for the long term, with Gerrard taking over once he left :D . If Rafa were to leave (and only if he were to leave) he would be a good option. What he has done with Wigan is simply incredible. He has a good team with no "big names" and I hope that by the end of the season they end up 6th, they deserve to be in the UEFA cup.

you never know if great small club managers will be great big club managers. I remember being gutted when Mike Walker (great at Norwich) went to Everton, I was hoping we'd sack Souness and get him. He went on to buy Amokachi and some other bums.

Any manager is a gamble but he's definately a future canditate.

Rafa really needs to prove that he can spot a goalscorer as its the most important position on the pitch (that and goalkeeper)

Jewell is certainly a talent, no doubt about that.

He did an amazing job at Bradford, before the chairman and board got stupid there.

He joined Wednesday at the wrong time and had to take a few steps backwards (at the time) when he joined Wigan.

He has brought Wigan up into the Premiership and kept them there.

All of this by playing decent football.

Jewell isn't Liverpool/Arsenal/Man UTD material just yet. We need to see him establish Wigan in the Premiership for another couple of seasons, and ideally I'd like to see him at a bigger club like Villa for a few years before going for him.

I still have doubts over his ability to handle big stars: I'm not saying he cannot handle them, its just that he hasn't had the opportunity yet.

he won't get the Liverpool Job,  Rafa's here for 20 years ..

I hope so , but if he manage to WIN CL in his first season then after 2 nd or 3rd year there's no success or title. I think he will end up like GH.

AS for PJ, I dont know much but all the best to him . Who knows that he might up like Sir Alex.

Unfortunately it's got to the point where the big clubs can't take that chance anymore as their is too much riding on it, money wise.

Where would we be as a club had we not taken the chance on a Mr William Shankly, who had been previously managing Huddersfield?

People such as Jewell, Allardyce, McLaren and Coleman won't get their chance at a big club because their's too much risk is involved.

The only way they will is if they take an unfavourable club to unprecidented height's such as CL football for, say, Fulham and sustain it.

Cash is King

Anyway, IMO this topic is made defunct by the fact that Rafa ain't going anywhere for at least 9-10 years and IMO is going to bring more success than the last 4 managers at our club.  :buttrock

Did he impress you then Mick? Do you see why i gave the lad a mention? I never claimed he was as good as Joaquin, but the lad can play.

I agree he is a good manager, but until Rafa leaves (which I dont see happening anytime soon) He wont even get a look in.

he is a good manager and has in stilled a hard working ethic into player who never thought they would play at this level for very long.

out of wigans players at the moment i would like to see lfc enquire about chimbona and teale. they are both playing at a great standard at the moment and imo could do it at champion leauge level.

i am not usually a fan of people saying lets get barton, bullard, ashton etc because i don't think a good review on match of the day makes a player worth a 10 mill contract and the chance to wear a red shirt, but those two imo could make it.

on jewell i think that he should take note from rafa as it could only make him a better manager , the ability to change games with a sub at the right time is awesome imo, rafa is second to none and i just hope he never gets home sick or the madrid job dos'nt rear its ugly head every year.

we are in safe hands at the moment and for people to post that crouch is a flop and that cissie is a rafa flop just proves that some people decide which team they support by which ever team is doing well that saturday. get a grip rafa has made small errors and got rid as soon as he realise that the epl is a bit rough for some overseas players. nunez, pelly ,josemi and when players aren't going to make it welsh, mellor, alt,

I definitely agree with the fact that we have the best manager in Europe in Rafael Benitez and i can see him being replaced for many years to come.
