Kewell played really well, apart from showing great skill and composure on the ball, he harried and hussled them in possession and offered a great deal of protection to Riise. The ball that Riise played to send Kewell through was awful, he did well to pick it up and make something of it. I hope he keeps up the good work. As much as I admire Riise's effort, his final ball into the box can be pretty bad, hopefully having an in form Harry Kewell on the left means that the quality of crosses will improve.

Lets hope he keeps it up

The best part of it the the options available for Rafa, that he's using cleverly. When a team does little harm from right wing, it's a perfect game for Kewell. If you had to play against Joaquin and Cicinho, you could play Riise and warnock and our left wing would be impassable. If we have to play defensive, 1 man forward, many midfielders team like Tottenham, Kewell is indispensable, as he's a true winger and those games must be finished by 1-0 and opened by the wings. That's why IT SEEMS Gerrard or Alonso were not that brilliant.It was a tough game and lot dark work day for them. I apply the same thing to Sissoko, not a bad game, at all.

Oh, I almost forgot. Today comes Espanyol (1) of Barcelona to Anoeta, I'm going to see if Gonzalez plays today, hope he does to make a report, but not too well

We, Real Sociedad, have 2 signing to fulfill the important gaps of Kovacevic and Aranburu (2) which are a Danish named Skoubo that played some months in WBA with no luck (anyone?) and comes brom Brondby, and Stevanovic a promising slovenian attacking midfielder. We also recover Brechet, a french centre back that played for Internazionale, and that has been plagued by injuries. Perhaps it's time to put money on Real Sociedad again.

(1) Used to be Español (Spanish) of Barcelona, but some nationalist struggled so that the catalan version (Espanyol) would be used. Espanyol is the second team of Barcelona. I merit them, because it's not easy to be a classic of Spanish football in the very realm of a super power like Barcelona. Traditionally (now there's many exceptions) Espanyols would be the team of those who were not that nationalist in Catalunya and Barcelona the most anti Madrid section of the city. Traditionally aswell there is a friendship between Madrid and Espanyol, and that's why they're not politically correct in Anoeta. But I merit them because they always fought their pride knowing they were the second best of the city and always had some interesting young players to provide.

(2) Youth system product. Was a good companion of Alonso. Aranburu is also a classic midfielder, but completely different to Alonso, Alonso provided the long balls, Aranburu provided intercepcion of balls and conducting the ball as if he had glue in his boots.

(3) Sorry for the rant, but if the Socceroos rant, I rant :laugh:

I am not sure if you saw the game or the highlights yesterday but Gerrard actually occupied the right, he switched to the left for about 5 mins in the 1st half. Then in the second period of the 2nd half he switched with Sissoko. I think the reason why Gerrard had a relatively quiet game yesterday was because he didn't really see much of the ball when he occupied that wide area. When he did actually get it, he did well, put in a couple of decent crosses, forced his way to the byline and won corners. When he came in the middle, he played with his typical drive and finished the game well.

As for Alonso I think he just had a bad day at the office by his very high standards. His passing wasn't as good as it usually is, however he did show total commitment, as did all our players. He covered a lot of ground and pressed them well.

i was thinkiing of bumping this thread myself last night but managed to restrain myself...

i'm feeling very smug because i was defending harry all along, not claiming that he should be right back in the first 11 while he was not performing well, but that one day, when fit again, he would begin to perform well. it's hard to believe how many people were saying he should never be in a red shirt again, how he was a pansy, how he didn't want to play, how he wasn't up for it.

instead its like we have a new signing. a player who's skillful, intelligent and not afraid to track back and get stuck in. how many second balls was he winning yesterday and in the past few matches? how many little moments of skill opened up the game?

it's difficult to say that he is well and truly back but on current form and recent record i reckon he's done enough to ram the words abck down his doubters throats. and i can't wait until the next game to watch him again.

Saw all the game, eagerly if I may add. Of course he played in the right, but he does so as a right midfielder, and his work was of a midfielder. Ah, and a midfielder plays with the ball and without the ball, if I had to rate Alonso with the ball, I'd give him a 5 out of 10 yesterday, but he did a good defensive job, and that's why I rate him 7, if you see what I mean.

This topic is unfair play. This topic was made a while ago, and given that Kewell was in a bad patch, 1 goal since 2003 should not give anyone any right to say that he has arisen to his top form. He has a long way to go, and now we have seen some fight in him, some drive, he has a goal that he needs to be fit for the World Cup. All the bashers had seen him nearly give up altogether and thats where the animosity came from. He had no hunger, no drive, no goal. Thank god for the Aussies getting in the Cup, otherwise, Kewell would have been gone this transfer window, and no one could say otherwise.

There is a lot of games from now until the World Cup, and although Kewell has been mighty good the last month or so, he still has a lot of people to impress, and its not us supporters, its himself.

my main problem with this topic when it first started was:

what other option do we have? Kewell was just coming back from injury and we need someone in that position. I was saying lets see after 5 or 6 games and if he's still cack sell in the transfer window.

Luckily he is improving with each game, like i hoped he would. wishing he was out of lfc at the time was just plain wrong then, and even worse now, without a replcaement.

I'm so pleased for Harry Kewell, i can't believe the amount off ***** he has had of his own 'supporters'. The bloke was injured FFS! This bloke could have gone to any club in the Premiership, Arsenal would have been an easy choice, but he chose us, why? because he loves this club. Now we are seeing regularly how class he really is.

i think the only rational thing is to say otherwise. it amazes me how many people - liverpool fans - are looking for reasons to hate kewell. they called him sh!te when he tried to play for nearly two years with injuries and was badly advised to come back too soon on a number of occasions. now he's playing well its only because he wants to impress for the world cup.

for jesus sake, how stupid is this? kewell is a footballer and wants to play football. even if he played averagely for us until the summer he would walk into that australian team so who is really trying to impress?

he's enjoying his football and playing without pain for the first time in a long long time. give him the credit he deserves.

Absolutely i totally agree to give credit where its due. But, it comes at a price. The last month or so doesn't constitute total and utter praise. Until he starts to pull games like these for months on end, thats when a whole heap of us will be thankful and repayed. If you go back to the start of this thread, you'll see me defending Kewell, and with good reason. See how, after many months my tune changes with the games he's played. I've done my fair share of defending him, but the Champions League final, when I saw him come off again for injury, I thought his days were over, and I couln't wait to get a better replacement with Gonzo coming in.

since she came back from the jungle harry kewell has improved..

I agree with you there sabre, the only thing I would say is that I know what you mean about Gerrard primarily being a midfielder, however the lad is that good, if he plays either right back, down the right flank, or wherever else (apart from in goal maybe) he will do a world class job there (extra time in istanbul is a prime example he looked like the best rightback in the world). In my opinion yesterday the reason why Gerrard had a relatively quiet game by his usual high standards is because he didn't see enough of the ball on the right.

I won't labour the point as this is a Harry Kewell thread and I am off topic.

About Kewell for whatever reason, injury, lack of appetite, hair maintenance worries, etc, (and lets be frank) even the most avid Harry Kewell fan must acknowledge he has played pretty sh ite for the last season and half or so. I don't see the point of all this 'I told you so' smugness that seems to have entered the forum on the topic. It seems to me that those Harry Kewell fans are now embarking upon a witch hunt against all those who have slagged him off in the past. So there was a few people that moaned about him being sh ite, when he was having a bad spell, so what?, he WAS sh ite and he WAS having a bad spell.

Harry Kewell has started to do what is necessary for him to survive at Liverpool FC and that is turn in match winning performances whilst showing passion for the badge on his shirt. He is playing with confidence, seems to have an extra yard of pace and has shown he has the tricks to beat players. Judging by the reaction from the crowd yesterday, he is now winning the support of the match going fans. I for one am impressed at the perseverance that he has shown to come back from the depths of bad form, bad injury and bad feeling from the fans ( i personally think it is disgraceful for fans to boo our own player when he turns out in a Liverpool shirt, but I have shared fellow fans frustrations at Kewell in the past). It would have been easy for him to seek a move elsewhere, so good on you Harry son, keep up the good work.

i was always confident that a fit Harry Kewell, with a run of 1st team matches under his belt, would bring his form back. My main problem was when people thought he was faking it.....some even claimed that he 'limped off' the CL final simply because he was 'lazy'!!! WHat utter tosh, who in their right mind would fake an injury in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL!!! The fact that he had to have an oporation within days after the final was conviently forgotten by the "Kewell out" brigade.

The fact that Harry has taken the amout of stick he has and not left, is a clear illustration of his love for our club. Kewell could have easily left and gone on to the likes of Man City, earning the same wages in the process. But he hasn't, he's stayed to get fit and prove himself to LFC and i for one reacon he's only going to get better and better.
