There have been a few gerrard ones which where huge, from last season and before he was gonna go.

Heard on the radio coming back from anfield rafa being interviewed and was asked:

"With your strikers misfiring, are you going to bring in michael owen?"

rafa replied

"We have very good strikers"

Now this leaves me thinking what does he mean?

i know, its doin my head in now. ive heard rafa say the same 'spinline' about a dozen times now, and each time the question gets more and more direct over owen..
tonight he was actually asked "do you want michael owen" a fairly to the point kind of poser...and yet he STILL says " we have 5 strikers, they are good" WTF

well they aint

the joke is wearing thin now. and even madrid must have sussed it by now.
there is SOMETHING in all this.

Real warm up for season with 5-0 rout of All-Stars

MADRID, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Real Madrid warmed up for the new season with a 5-0 rout of the Major League Soccer (MLS) All-Stars to win the 27th edition of the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy on Tuesday.

A David Beckham free kick, an impressive double from Ronaldo, a classy solo effort from substitute Guti and a late strike from Raul gave Real a morale-boosting win in the traditional curtain-raiser to their domestic season.

The game is more likely to be remembered, though, for Jonathan Woodgate's first appearance in a Real Madrid shirt a year after signing for the club from Newcastle United for around 20 million euros ($24.47 million).

The 25-year-old England centre-back, who had not played a competitive match since tearing a thigh muscle in a league match for Newcastle against Chelsea last April, came on for Ivan Helguera for the final four minutes of the game.

England captain Beckham got Real off the mark when he curled a trademark free kick around the wall and inside the far post midway through the first half.

Ronaldo extended Real's lead five minutes before the break, charging on to a through ball from Zinedine Zidane and checking inside a defender before rifling a fierce shot into the top corner.

The Brazilian helped himself to a second 17 minutes before time, powering on to a pass from Beckham, fending off two defenders and clipping the ball over keeper Matt Reis and into the net.

Guti added a fourth when he turned a defender inside out and stroked the ball into the corner and Raul completed the rout just before the final whistle.

Real's new signings Julio Baptista, Pablo Garcia and Carlos Diogo were all given run-outs, although none made much of a mark on their first appearance at the Bernabeu.

England striker Michael Owen, whose future at Real is in the air after the club's decision to sign Brazilian duo Julio Baptista and Robinho, came on for the final 10 minutes.

The All-Stars put together some neat passing moves in midfield and striker Landon Donovan and substitute Jeff Cunningham worked hard to create space up front but they rarely troubled Real's stand-in keeper Diego Lopez.

This is very confusing. Why would Rafa continue to say "We have 5 striker, they are very good?" Maybe really we havent seen the best of them. Or Rafa is after a striker and doesnt want the media to know.

Rafa has to say that he has "5 good strikers" because their mantality are so fragile right now, any misplace words will mekt their already dire form get worse! :angry:

What a cr@p load of strikers we have right now. If we have "5 good strikers", the midfielders must be at least "wonderful" because they do a heck of a lot more than the pathetic strikers.

If I saw Rafa being interviewed in spanish then Iwould still be asking is he going to sign Owen or not.As English is my native language I have no difficulty understanding when he says he doesnt have the money for a forward centre back and a right sided player are his priorities.Dont get me wrong Iwould love to see Owen back here,but only if the manager wants him.Its obvious the chairman and Parry want him back,we have never had a meddlesome board at this club lets not start now.The manager picks the players he wants if Owen is not in his plans so be it.Raffa is the gaffa and no to interference.

Sky Sports this morning say Owen met with the Madrid president (?) and told him if he isn't guarenteed first team footy at madrid he would prefer to move back to liverpool ,failing that ,he would go on a one season loan to Newcastle.

It should be down to one man and one many only,Rafa,who decides who to sign,I honestly believe he dosen't want to bring Owen back but now that we're in the lucrative group stages (and with the money from Baros's sale) then maybe....
That said I had to laugh at Rafa's pre-match interview last night "we need a centre back and a winger" is his new phrase

Owen is DEFINITELY coming back to the premiership this season:

From BBC website his morning:

Real Madrid's Michael Owen wants to return to Liverpool but is prepared to spend this season on loan at Newcastle if a move to Anfield cannot be agreed.
Madrid have promised to help the 25-year-old England forward return home to boost his World Cup hopes.

"I said that my ideal situation was to start the season in the Real Madrid team and if not I would prefer to return to Liverpool," Owen said.

"If the transfer cannot be finalised in time I have agreed to go to Newcastle."
