What about the 100's of goals he scored for us?

I am sorry, I have left this Owen debate alone, for the simple fact that i do not rate his abilities as a footballer (all round I am talking about here btw!!), and cant be bothered getting into a debate with the majority as to why he is better, I have my reasons and WILL ALWAYS stay the same, I prefer substance, and Owen (IMO) doesnt have this, he is a thief of a striker IMO, NO SKILL WHATSOEVER!!, but I just HAVE to reply to that comment!

And YES I WILL CHEER if Owen scores (if he signs) as I support LIVERPOOL FC, and he would be employed by us and therefore has a JOB to do, but because I may cheer a goal for my TEAM, doesnt mean I will change my view on Owen and his abilities!

Is football not a TEAM game?
Michael Owen WON nothing FOR Liverpool on his own he simply is unable to win anything on his own, as he doesnt possess the natural ability to do so, such as someone like Wayne Rooney or Maradona (yes, thats right I am putting Rooney in the same category as Diego - because for me {injury depending, but TBH he is as hard as nails anyway} it is clear how good he is going to get over the next 5-8 yrs).

Maybe people will argue that Owen won us the FA Cup, with those two late goals against Arsenal, but correct me if I am wrong, I am sure he didnt take the ball from his own half, pass a few players and slot it home.
He received PASSES from TEAMMATES, and that is how he scored, ok he had to skin Keown (not even in his twilight years, he had gone past the 'twilight' years at this point and was playing from memory FFS!!!).

I will readily admit that yes (on paper) Owen stats are basically remarkable, but the thing is he can only score when playing in a certain style (of the team) and tends to score in batches as opposed to consistently.
So I am sick and tired of people saying 'he won us this' and 'he won us that', F.UCK THAT.....LIVERPOOL WON IT...Full stop.
Michael was just one player of eleven (or more considering used subs!!) and he was employed as a striker and paid money to be a striker!!!  Therefore he was doing what he was PAID to do - score goals!!!

People always remember the strikers and those that put the ball in the back of the net, but people forget (most times) the person who passed the ball  or those that did the dirty work or got hurt or went off injured (unless was a serious injury a la Cisse!)
And the reason so many here seem to want Owen back is because of his 'goals', but he was able to score so many, because GH put all his eggs in Michaels basket and played to suit HIS style, therefore ten men are playing to benefit ONE player.
Rafa does NOT play like this, as it is too basic and can be read easily by any class opposition, or any Central defender that does his homework on Owen.

So in summation, personally I dont think Rafa wants Owen back TBH, but I have an (uneasy) feeling that the board (and SG via them) are pressuring Rafa to take him back. Wrong move in my opinion, why p.iss Rafa off??
Also IF he does come back, I am waiting to see how many goals he gets??
Because I just dont think that he can fit into Rafas style of play, and this is the same reason he doesnt play in Madrid and they have bought, not one but TWO new strikers (Baptista slightly a more att midfldr, if you want to be padantic!!), it IS partly down to politics, as I am sure Baptista and Robinho will also find out, but also as he doesnt suit the style of play!

If you dont play TO OWENS STRENGTHS, then he is C.rap, he is unable to hold up play and bring in others into play WITHOUT passing the ball backwards, he ALWAYS passes or lays it off (when he actually does it!) in such a way that HE has time to get in the box.
Ok, some may argue that is good, selfish, predatory thinking on his behalf (fair enough!), but the thing is RAFA does not play like that and WILL NOT ALLOW IT. When Owen was here it was allowed for two reasons:

1- GH allowed it to happen as he played to suit Michael
2- He was the only person who looked likely to score, so it didnt look too bad in all honesty.

Also on a slight side note, very much plucked from the air, but something else that ALWAYS used to annoy me about Michael was that (dont know if anyone else noticed this), whenever another STRIKER scored for us, he never used to celebrate as much - envy I beleive, which for me just shows both the type of player and person he is - SELFISH!
Contrast this with the way you see Cisse celebrate, I mean did you see how happy he was for Mori when he scored his first last week? And consider He (Djib) must know that Rafa prefers Mori to himself and ultimately, his goals were a negative in Cisse's plight for a starting berth!

So i think its clear to all I dont want Owen back, but it looks ever more likely by the day and can see it happening within the next two days, after the England drubbing  :D (sorry I meant friendly) is a good time I suppose as he is able to come back with some of the lads etc;.................Oh well!!!!!!!!!

Of course not ALL of you are idiots!  :p :D

But seriously............................

............there are players that can change the game in a second ON A REGULAR BASIS, IMO, Owen is not one of these players, though many feel he is.
In Rafa's style of play I just dont feel as though he will be able to be effective. I mean come on can you really see Owen playing as the lone striker up front??? Please!!!

Anyway, I hear what you say, but I have seen that type of comment MANY times throughout this thread, though i may have only posted in this thread once or twice or so!! I still read it, and its like Owen is going to win us the championship the way some people go on!

People need to forget about what he done for us BEFORE, NOW we play a DIFFERENT way, therefore he will not be able to play the way as we saw him in previous seasons. People are wanting him back, based on his showings when the team was based around him, it will not be the same this time around!! Hence my feeling he will score fewer goals (if he was to bag 25 then great, as that would prob man we would be in for a long season, as long as he isnt scoring hat-tricks against weak oppo and none in big games! ie; Champions League and I am thinking about score vital goals like SG's last season, when it is REALLY needed, you know, do or die business!!).

Sorry ,but goals change games and MO scores plenty of them .
So infact he is the type of player who can change a game in a second.

Yes, that is true (was waiting to see how long it took for that reply :D), but he wont be doing this as often as you think if and when he signs.
I am talking about players that are REALLY able to create something out of NOTHING, by THEMSELVES....Sorry but IMO Owen cant do that!

Also (sorry 4 dble posting Mods) ANYONE can score a goal and therefore, to qoute you, be -
the type of player who can change a game in a second

Thats what I am talking about mate, Anyone can score, even Gary Neville and Carra FFS!! and change the game, the difference is, this is MO's specialist position (striker) and he is unable to do this on HIS OWN, as many seem to believe he can.
Its just what I see!

Your right of course anyone can change a game if they score.

Your also right that it is his specialist position, but he will score twenty goals a season .So therefor on goals alone he will change the course of results twenty times.

Why does he have to do it on his own ?
Wasnt it you who said a few posts back that football is a team game??

Anyway the type of player your  on about i would much rather see in midfield creating chances for the specialist strikers to do what they do best.Put the ball in the back of the net, and as far as im concerned we already have that role filled with a certain Mr Gerrard.
