Baros to everton?

Everton may try to sign striker Milan Baros from Merseyside rivals Liverpool after failing to land Andy Johnson from Crystal Palace, BBC Sport understands.
Everton had a £6m bid for Johnson, 24, rejected and the forward has now signed a new five-year deal with Palace.

A move to Schalke 04 for Baros, 23, fell through because of his £7m price tag, which is also believed to be more than Everton would be willing to pay.

Another stumbling block could be Baros' desire to move across Stanley Park.

Baros has not played in any of Liverpool's Champions League qualifiers so far this season in order not to devalue his worth.

And, while Reds boss Rafael Benitez insists Baros has a future at Anfield, it seems he will let the Czech international leave for the right price.

Everton start their Champions League campaign with a third-round qualifier against Villarreal on 9 August at Goodison Park and will need to sign Baros by Thursday if they want him to play in that game.

Aston Villa and Monaco are also believed to be keen on signing Baros, who is competing with Fernando Morientes, Djibril Cisse, Peter Crouch and Anthony Le Tallec for a striking berth at Liverpool.

Everton "confirm" interest in Baros:

Everton have confirmed they are interested in signing Milan Baros from Barclays Premiership rivals Liverpool.

The striker’s days at Anfield appear to be numbered after manager Rafael Benitez admitted he would consider offers for the 23-year-old Czech Republic international.

Aston Villa and West Ham United have already been linked with Baros and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness confirmed Baros was one of a number of strikers they had targeted.

“We are looking at a number of different striking options and we are currently reviewing them all,” Wyness told the Liverpool Echo.

“Baros is one of the names on the list.”

Can't see Moyes signing a player he branded a 'coward' not so long ago after the horror-challenge on Stubbs

Either he's desperate or there's no truth in this.

If the interest is serious however, then don't be surprised if Baros wants to play for them, I get the impression he's a bit of a mercenary to be honest.  Whether Rafa would let him go there is another matter.  Overall a deal is very unlikely IMO

Agree with everything you said mate. I feel Baros would join them with a "I'll show them" kind of attitude.

Amen to that. Moyes seems really desperate to buy anybody lately.

It's class that Everton have had to resort to re-signing defenders who they had wanted to get rid of just weeks before and I get the feeling that they want to sign someone who will really get fans excited...but can't and so are already spending hours in training kicking the ball very high in the air for long distances at Dunc the Drunk.

Enough to make anyone panic who is about to play the cream of Europe - if they can get past the qualifiying round, which remains in doubt.
