Player ratings vs. southampton - Must find positives ppl

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

The worst performance of an LFC side I have witnessed ever, against a Southampton side that fought hard and outplayed every move Liverpool made, this is indeed our worst hour.
As a team, we were always one step behind, had two sometimes three players challenging the aerial ball, our man marking at the back was appalling and no communication what so ever in defence. There was no commitment in 50-50 balls, and our midfield drive was pathetic and uneffective. Dudek must have had specific instructions the whole game, because whenever he had the ball, he opted for the short ball to his defenders to run through and create a forward drive, which never worked. In attack, no service once again made it difficult for Baros and Morientes, and when they did get the ball finally, they opted for power than accuracy. Underestimate the opposition, and it will burn you up everytime.

Player Ratings are as follows:

Dudek      4
Made a silly error that gifted the first goal by not protecting his near post AGAIN. Lifted his game after that, but the second goal thwarted him. Regained composure after, and made some critical saves.

Warnock   4
Was substituted after the restart to give way for a more attacking Liverpool side. Was targeted by Southampton as the weakest link in the side, and it paid off for them. Will get better.

Hypiia    5
First half communication with Pelle was non-existant. Second half was fantastic as he continously attempted to stop any Southampton attack even when it was obvious he was hurting from a hip injury. Champion.

Pellegrino  3
An impressive start to the Premiership in last week's game. An unforgiving turnover gifted Southampton the first goal. Someone of this calibre should not give away balls like the way he did. Unforgivable given his experience. The pace seems to be his achillies heel.

Carragher   5
Always one to give his all, Carragher was one of LFC's best today on the pitch. Missed out on a few 50-50 balls, that on another day, would have swallowed them up. Future Captain material still.

Riise   2
Maybe due to his unexpected change in position, did not seem to settle at right mid. Struggled to get into the rythym when swapped around at half time, and a few crosses were wasted. One of the most bizarre positional changes I've seen to date.

Hamman   4
Did okay today, but not at his best. Was run out of position most of the game, and was caught ball watching on occasions. Very unlike Hamman to be outplayed. Was an off day.

Gerrard  4
With the weight of expectation on his shoulders, he is carrying the burden of the whole club on his shoulders. His team mates only seem to start to play when Gerrard fires up, his head wasn't at the game today. Must be thinking of where he will be playing in the summer, or carrying an injury that limits his display. Hope its the latter.

Luis Garcia  4
Too much flair, too much showing off was the downfall of his performance today. Maybe was the catalyst for the way LFC approached the game. There is too many games now that he hasn't performed, must do something quick to his game.

Baros  6
Player of the match. Never gave up, worked hard for every ball, and made the right moves and runs, got himself into scoring positions, unfortunately for him today, he was a few inches too short. Outstanding once again.

Substitutes:

Sinama Pongolle  5
Lively when brought on for Warnock for the restart, he was the source of most of LFC's forward thrusts. Should have been a focal point up front for the second half, but made some great moves, nearly brought LFC into the match single handedly. Linked well with Baros.

Raven   3
Brought on for the injured Hypiia, Raven's debut could have been marred by a penalty decision that fortunately went the way of the youngling. Handled himself well after this, and could well be one to watch in the future.

Biscan   3
Too little, too late. A move that saw Hamann subbed, Biscan provided few sparks for forward thrusts, but ultimately, there was no time for him, or LFC. Definetley in the shop window for the summer.

Benitez   3
Outmanouvered by Redknapp, obviously told Dudek to play short everytime, and obviously didn't work. Had no Plan B in the first half, when there was obviously need for it. Still adapting to the Premiership, but one has to think why the team only performs in one half of our games. We always seem to play well either in the second half, or the first half. Something has to be done about this, as this is clearly unacceptable.

It looked as though he was given a floating role, and the fact that he played out of position, obviously made it difficult for him to get into the match. He had much of the ball, and although most fans will disagree with me seeing that he has had a few bad games to his name, he is still getting in there and winning tackles and showing a bit of spirit, which is much more than i can say for a few other players in the team. His final ball is off the pace, and needs fine tuning, but he is getting a touch and getting himself into space. He is getting there slowly, but must loose that pi$$y fancy play that destroyed our game in the first half.

Hamann had an off day. Nunez didnt play and is looking better with everygame he plays. Traore is young and will gain from experience, the mistake midweek was highlighted from an individual error. Point is, we deserved to lose the game regardless.Warnock hasnt played too many senior games to make such a claim of stupidity, and Biscan has his high and lows as many players, and is in the shop window for January, so he will leave. Garcia is a player everyone is despising at the moment, cos they can see his potential, he gets into some great posistions, and the final ball delivered is pathetic. He will work on it, and fine tune his game.
Maybe you should reconsider what you just said in a few days when the pain of another loss subsides, and you can come and post with a clear head.

Pellegrino deserved a 2 at best. And that was the worst ever game i've seen carragher play EVER. Warnock was terribly dissapointing. Baros again was man of the match for me.

To throw a young and inexperienced player into the mix was a gamble. And Southampton targetted him as a weak link, and constantly set up their attacks down that flank. Liverpool's attack consisted of setting up an attack from the backline. Worked well didn't it.

Baros was man of the match far and away. Some flashes of what Morientes can do given time, and Sinama-Pongolle seems to get better every game. At least a couple of positives to take from today.

Sinama is definetly looking like the player that can spark something, especially when he comes on, he has that motiviation, that push, that urge to make it, and thats what is pi$$ing me off about some other players at the moment. Garcia is wanting to do something magic on the pitch rather than doint the simple things, Nunez is a frustrated player, and is looking to continuosly impress the fans more than play well, Traore is in la-la land, and other than Baros, Carra, Hypiia and Pongolle, no one else seems to want to gel. Too individual our players.
