Utilising our assets - Make the most of a bad hand

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Leonmc0708 » Fri Dec 31, 2004 1:27 pm

OK people, bare with me on this one.

I was just thinking, we have players out on loan at various clubs, some of which are wanted by that club, and some of which are possibly surplus to requirements.

So I was thinking, who would you take as a swap deal, you know so as to utilise our assets, and get them off the books once and for all.

To the best of my knowledge, here are the players currently out on loan, and the respective club they are loaned to.

Bruno Cheyrou - Marseille (FR)

Carl Madjani - L'Orient (FR)

Anthony Le Tallac - St Etienne (FR)

Alou Diarra - Lens (FR)

Gregory Vignal - Rangers (SCO)

El Hadji Diouf - Bolton (ENG)

Jon Otsemobor - Crewe (ENG Div1)

Now be realistic people, and if you can give some valuations to make it realistic as possible.

to be honest Leon the only one I think we could use as bate would be Diouf.  Think he has showed at Bolton that he can play a little when he puts his mind to it.  Obviously it would be a big risk for any club to take him on board due to his antics.  I wonder if Man City would be interested???  5 Million and Diouf for Anelka what you think??

Diouf for Anelka more likely as a straight swap, I wouls not give them £5m plus, but it is an idea. Can he go to City or must he stay at Bolton all season?

Right lets have a go at Leon's little teaser.

From the top in terms of value:

                                           Cheyrou-in the region of 250k
Madjani-no idea, never heard of him.
Le Tellec-unknown quantity, could make a player IMHO. That said, he's no good to us on loan so I'd take in the region of 2 million.
Alou Diarra-know nothing about the bloke apart from the fact he's played a couple of times for France. Probably the new Platini or something, or maybe that was somebody else. 1.5 million and he's yours. Ok, call it a million.
                                           Vignal-not good enough. 250k.
Diouf-worthless. Both as a footballer and as a man. One of the most catestrophic misjudgements in the transfer market in the history of football.
Ostemboor-what did Crewe offer for him? thats about what he's worth then I'd say. 500k?
Altogether that makes about 4 million by my reckoning, with probably about 6 million a year off the wage bill. What would you do with the ten mill? Who knows I'm not gonna start guessing now with the window opening tomorrow. It's a lot of dead wood though, and thats not including Diao etc who are still at the club. A little footnote, I wouldn't sell Le Tellec on balance.

Maybe 3 million then I would just do anything to get him off our books.  I was under the impression we can recall him at any stage?? Might be wrong though.

I would even go as far as saying Distan plus 2 million for Diouf.  This would then give us the cover we need at the back.

Guys get used to it, he is ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS. On his contract I would be staggered if anybody paid a penny for him. Why would they? Might as well let us pay two thirds of his wages and just pick up the tab for the other thirteen grand. Why pay a transfer fee and have to negotiate on a salary of 40k per week?
When I say worthless I am actually overstating his value of course. He is actually worth NEGATIVE over a million pounds a year to us until his contract runs out. Terrible.

other teams have got us over a barrel regarding el hadj because they know we dont want him back.
thats why we would have to pay bolton cash plus diouf to get campo! a deal i wouldnt touch with a barge pole.
liverpool are desperate because unlike chelsea we cant afford to throw £11m down the drain but i fear we already have.
the really dissapointing thing is that during the world cup before we signed him he looked like 4kin pele, i honestly thought we`d signed a star.

Imagine if Rafa called him back and started playing him,
Put up with his antics for a season get some games under his belt then sell him as a liverpool first team member that would gain us some money back but we would have to recall him and actually use him till the end of the season,Apart from his appalling attitude to the game he aint that bad a player and RB has allready proved he can get the best from any player
I dunno whether id like to see him in a red shirt again though even if he was the best player in the world.
Still money talk's and it would surely gain us something back.
Maybe just play him in away games so he didnt soil the Anfield Turf lol
