LIVERPOOL v chelsea Wed 28th Oct 8.00pm L/Cup

Liverpool Football Club - Games

I completely understand that we are competing on four fronts and Andi has to make changes to avoid running us into the ground but at the same time given what happened last night up the coast in Fleetwood an opportunity to win a trophy is opening up before us here like the proverbial Red Sea.
City play Brighton tonight as well so that'll be another good team that won't be in the hat for the next round. Even if they get through tonight and go all the way City may not even be allowed to play in the League Cup final in Feb, we'll know the result of their appeal in December and the powers that be may not be too keen on the idea of convicted cheats waving trophies around. Not a good look for the game in this country.
I'm not saying i'd go full strength but i'd certainly pick a decent side tonight. League Cups wins count, they go up on those walls of honour at the AXA and in the players tunnel etc, they add to our history, we exist to win silverware lets not forget.

It's a difficult decision to make. We most definitely do not have the squad to compete in 4 competitions, and we can't be playing our main players all the time. It may not show right away but come February/March the burn out will be evident if we run our team to the ground. On the other hand, with Arsenal out and some tough teams playing eachother, it looks like a decent opportunity for silverware. It will be a tough decision for the manager.

The CL finalists play 15 games, it's half a season extra! Sorry guys but the FA and Milk cups aren't a priority this season.

Play the young lads like Jurgen used to and save the more experienced legs for the Gooners on Sunday => knowing that we play Fenerbahçe the following Wednesday in the CL.  We playing 5 games in 13 days at the mo so we have to save the key players.

Personally if i was going to rest players i'd do it next week against Fenerbache and play a strong team tonight, we'll still qualify for the knockout stages of the CL even if we play the U18's next week and get our ars.es kicked, for once the CL draw has been kind to us.
We need to crank the pressure up on Xabi, if he stays at Chelsea for any length of time i can see him building a really good team there so lets see if we can do our bit to convince them to get rid of him early.
A win tonight would give us a huge amount of momentum going into the weekend.

A brain dead moment from Grav, had no need to give away a pen there. 1-0 Chelsea.

Pen for us now, stupid hand ball by their player, should have been a yellow too. Gakpo to take it.

Edit: Cody slots it, 1-1.

Penalty shootout it is then. Both teams could have won it and it was an even game all in all. We rotated a lot more than them so decent game by us. Nyoni had a really mature performance I thought.

Let's hope we can go through via the pens.
