The Greatest Strikers and Combos

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

We've been blessed with genius partnerships and strikers in the past. in my days: Ian St John, Roger Hunt, Keegan and Toshack, Kenny/Rush, Fowler, Owen, Torres, Suarez but on reflection I don't think we'll see better than Mane, Firmino and Salah.

To put it into perspective, I don't think any club in the last 30 odd years has had such a lethal strikeforce, ably supported by Tent and Robbo, VVD and Matip with Fabinho standing in front of them. Every aspect was perfect, and we had Allison whose ball distribution was a pleasure to watch.

I suspect the obsession with Kenny will have to be toned down with a growing recognition of Mane, Bobby and Mo, as one, not as individuals as they were the sum of their partnership, without eachother it wouldn't have been the same.

I agree, maybe some of the older lads will let us know how Good Kenny/Rush, Aldo were during their time.

However Mane, Salah and Firmino were outrageously good together. Even Pep had nightmares over them.

As a combo I enjoyed Gerrard/Torres but the ruthlessnes, cohesion from the Klopp trio was on another level. During our peak we were the most feared team on the planet.

I enjoyed the Suarez/Sterling/Sturridge combo. They'd just rotate positions during the game and it kept the defences guessing all the time.

Kenny and Rush was the first partnership I saw at Liverpool. They just linked up perfectly! Rush knew when to run and Kenny was so good at finding the killer pass.

But Salah, Mane and Bobby was just a perfect trio. Bobby was so unselfish and was the glue that made that trio work. Mane and Salah had egos but were relentless and Bobby put his ego aside and just let the boys take the glory.

Bobby was the glue for sure without him it would've not been as good, you can put anyone else there but the way Bobby ticked was rare. His intelligence and ability to make the trio click was remarkable, such a smart player. Klopp got the best out of him, Brodge had no idea what to do with him.

Forgot about SSS, yup was a delight watching them for the short period they played together.

I think the Mane Firmino Salah combination has to be the best ever as they were perfectly suited to each other. It was Firmino that made that happen but the amount of matches when all three were on the score sheet says a lot. With SSS it was really Suarez and the other two were supporting actors, Suarez carried that partnership. I’d say that Suarez was the best striker we ever had but those three were the best front three.
