Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

sure - the whole team gave the ball away. we played nowhere near as good as we are. but on top of that we were against this guy downing who is one of the most amazing young talents in the premiership. i think he would have given anyone trouble today.

I think we where half expecting this result today. You hope that we can dig in and grind something out of the game, however you just aint sure which Liverpool willl show up. Sounds like we where at our worst today. As good as Garcia and Alonso have been at Anfeld, they have not convinced away from home. Without a decent striker to pick from we need these guys to do a job and at present it doesnt look like they are capable.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are going to get these results from time to time, particularly when we have our current injury situation. They are a good side and will definately challenge for the fourth spot which we covet. Away from home they are a tough nut to crack and maybe one day we will get an offside decision go in our favour, that would be nice.
Like I posted on the tactics thread, it's going to be a tough few weeks and blindly saying 'we are liverpool and we are going to march on despite our injury problems' is dillusional nonsense. At least we now know how hard its gonna be and can move forward. I know it hurts lads but we'll come good I'm sure of it.

I also said at the start of the season and a few weeks ago that we will suffer a few speedbumps this season, but what hurts most about today's performance is that almost all of the players didn't look like they cared. Riise was walking around the place smiling with 5 minutes to go, Alonso looked emotionless and Troare bewildered.

Only Carragher, Hyppia and Finnan were up for the game mentally, but Hyppia was badly exposed.

i'm seriously disappointed that benitez didn't go with a proper striker - mellor or pongolle - from the start. what kind of message is that giving to them and the fans? kewell and garcia are not strikers. in fact kewell is hardly a player.

JBG c'mon mate! you're normally the voice of reason on here. I believe you, we were bad but come on!! You're too smart to belive it was going to be easy beforehand. Hand on heart did you think we'd win 3-0 or something? If we really were as bad as you said, then get em in tomorrow to do a few laps. Hyypia? not the player he was but I'm not going to slag the lad. He'll come back. Alonso? played rubbish by all accounts but I've only got tone game this season, at Fulham and he was fantastic. Didn't look too shabby in midweek for Spain either.
Strikers? Rafa has now made it quite clear he doesn't rate Mellor or Pongolle at all so therefore lets get rid. FWIW I agree with him.

Some people are truely unbelievable.

Listen to yourselves, Banana, you the most clueless person on these boards.

JBG, you should know better.

we do not have a right to win every game but we have a right to expect effort and some level of performance higher than what we got today

My comments Mick are only in relation to todays game and they are 100% correct and reasonable based on today's game.

I still say Benitez needs time, but today's performance was the worst I have seen from Liverpool since the home defeat to Southampton last season.

bad result, Rafa will put it down to expirence and move on.  Got to agree tho, i think Kewell should be dropped to the reserves for a bit to get his form back.  Bring in one or two youngsters and loan a striker!

he need to lear how we play footbal over here and learn fast .
i dont think he will be staying long with us anyway , as soon as he gets a better job offer in spain he will be off

Agreed.

Its one thing losing, you can half accept that if the team tried but on the day were beaten by another team.

Everything about today's performance was a shambles, but as peewee said, the most hurtful thing was the lack of heart and effort from many of the Liverpool players. Only Hyppia and Carragher looked visibly angry at the end, the rest went around exchanging shirts.

The people I feel most sorry for are the travelling support who went up for the game (I saw it on TV), and it speaks volumes that many of the Liverpool away support voted with their feet and left with 10 minutes to go.
