Liverpool v Man City 10/11/2019

Liverpool Football Club - Games

Bernardo handled it before TAA but yes could have been awarded. Our performance reminded me a bit of 2016 Leicester just lethally quick on the break and City couldn't cope with it. Fabhino needs to shoot more what a player shades of Viera today. City kept coming though but we held firm enough.

Great result although we were hanging on in certain periods but the team stood up to a man, chasing , harrying and blocking.
TAA handball wasn't because it hit Silva's hand first - any contact with a hand in a build up to a goal means it's disallowed ...just like Manes recently which was never intentional but led to him putting the ball in the net.

9 points clear-wow,

We have just got to keep our feet on the ground. Chelsea drawing with City next IMO and we win our game.

We will be 11 points clear and that would be nigh on impossible to claw back and I think City would wilt after that, especially with them playing pretty much the entire top half of the table in the next 2 months.

We are actually 8 points clear of Leicester and the Chavs, and 9 clear of City.

This is the Liverpool v City thread so I was referring to the gap between us and them  :eyebrow

Also, I think City are the only real threat ..Chelsea and Leicester are a step behind them over the long haul.

City pretty much have to play the top half of the table (bar us obviously) in their next 9 games, our next 9 games are -

Palace
Brighton
Everton   (H)
Bournemouth
Watford
Aston Villa
West Ham (postponed)
Leicester  (A)
Wolves
Sheffield United

Every premier league game is difficult and our next one (Palace away) is no exception, but given the gap and given City's tough run of fixtures (starting with Chelsea at the Etihad) if we could somehow keep up this relentless pace a bit longer then these next 9 games could turn out to be the most pivotal in our recent history.
Even though there would still be half a season to go and even though our players haven't had a proper pre season and could well run out of steam down the stretch Im beginning to think that the title will be won and lost between now and new year.

Yep. If we are 8 points clear when we line-up against Southampton on 1 January then it really will be ours to lose.

Until then, it's a case of building up a cushion that will protect us if/when we have a dip in form or suffer key injuries.

I'm thinking more like a 15 point gap between us and City Kewell. As I said given City's fixtures and given the pressure they will be playing under I think we've got a unbelievable opportunity to extend our 9 point lead between now and the new year. It wouldn't surprise me if we find ourselves 11 points ahead after the next game, Chelsea are in great form and getting a draw at the Etihad is certainly not beyond them by any means.
Chelsea have got goals in them and City as we saw today look pretty ropey at the back.

Anything extra is a bonus  :nod

Hopefully Man City, Chelsea and Leicester all drop points against one another (with a series of draws) and we silently steam ahead.  But I'm very worried about the world club championship and the affect it'll have on our team's fitness.  In fact, I'm secretly hoping that Klopp will bring one or two reinforcements in January, because our front three will be running on fumes if they play ever single match over the next 6 weeks.

Magnificent result. It’s up there with our best games under Klopp!

We showed everyone why we are the best team in Europe.

Guardiola for all the b**ching and moaning could do nothing against our resolute defending. The desperation of claiming two non-handballs showed that they simply crumbled today. It’s actually a great sign for us. We are all expecting a further meltdown over the next few weeks.

We have to keep this monster pace going, as Yakka is pointing out with our current form, there is no reason why we simply could be anywhere like 15 points clear by the start of 2020.

We can only dream.

Yep a couple of signings in January are a must even if they are just loan signings. We've been in a great position in January a few times now and each time we haven't brought anyone in and it's bit us on the @rse.
City have got tough games coming up but we've still got to keep winning ourselves, we've only just scraped past some teams by the skin of our teeth (like Sheffield United and Villa last week) so we can't get complacent, we were 10 points clear last January and still blew it so this is not over by a long chalk. We are in a great position but the hard work is just starting, there's two thirds of the season still to go and because we are still in all comps we have fixtures coming out of our ears.
At this stage it's very easy to get caught up in it all and to solely focus on our rivals results but we mustn't forget the main thing is to take care of our own business.

What an absolutely brilliant result. Had to laugh when one of the Sky guys mentioned they had spent over £150m on fullbacks !! Trent and Robbo showed what £8m can buy you for the fantastic second goal. They’re  all whinging like a classroom of toddlers about injuries. What a total an utter joke. They have spent crazy money over the last five years to buy their success and who knows they could go on and win the league again this year. We are in an amazing position after the first 12 games. A feat that has only been equalled four other times in the last sixty years. As Yakka said we had a 10 point lead last year. They did however have a game in hand which they won. Losing to them at the Etihad and drawing with Leicester,Everton and United cost us the league when they went on a 14 match winning streak. Nothing can be taken for granted. The next 8 weeks will be a massive test. GOT TO SAY THOUGH WE ARE LOOKING VERY GOOD which was evidenced by Girliola’s pathetic behaviour at the end of the game !!

Proud to be a red !!
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years (10 years
are in brackets)
LFC £255m (£467m)
Everton £38m (£287m)
Arsenal £645m6 (£925m)
Spurs £510m (£541m)
Chelsea £788m (£1007m)
Man City £307m (£1012m)
Man United £702m (£1249m)

What a cracker from Fabinho! People talk about Van dijk and Alison as having changed our fortunes but this man is every bit as influential. The game played out as I expected; we are in frighteningly good form and I feel if we can carry it into the new year, and get a few loan signings as kewell says, we stand a very good chance of going all the way. Hopefully the scouts can identify someone with potential who for some reason or another isn’t getting game time..

Perfect result, that's dealt a massive mental blow to Pep and the team, well done Reds!

I'm not excited about being 9 points ahead with 26 games to play lads, 2 sloppy draws and its wide open again but with Fat Frank's Chavs and Leicester also breathing down our necks. Nice to see but no more than that at this stage.

City will have to decide whether to switch their focus away from the league to CL which with their injury situation could work in our favour.

One other point... clean sheets... (not that Thommo...) it's a contradiction to want to have flying wingbacks and expect clean sheets. Something has to give, for now, I'll settle for goals created at the other end and worry about goals we're shipping when it becomes a problem.
