I noticed he was calling to the bench for an energy gel on the weekend and just looked a little out of it. He’s been below his usual high standard in the last couple of game and I wonder if he might be rested on Wednesday.

Apart from the game vs Chelsea in the cup, he's played all games for the full 90 minutes, both for us and international. He should definitely be rested against Red Star and should be rested more often. I'd rather be in a position to choose when to play Moreno than be forced to play him.

He's klopps best value buy to date at just 7m.

We could sell him now for 40m easy.

Great player, but we desperately need a back-up option. As Moreno scares the bejesus out of me everytime he walks onto the pitch

I must say that Robertson is turning into an exceptional player and his age will tell you he will only get better. On form he may be one of the best 5 LB’s in the world today and frankly I would not swap him with any player. A well rounded player that seems to have the right kind of winning mentality and a fantastic engine. When Flannigan had that good year he looked to me like he was playing well above himself, with Robertson however he just looks like he he makes it look simple with tidy performance’s after next. He came a long way and has taken his chance. A relatively unsung hero in a great looking team but he is huge in making our defense what it is and his quality crosses certainly help on the other end of the pitch.

Good post kazza.

Robertson has been phenomenal for us, I could say we really got lucky with him because it's difficult nowadays to find a cheap potential in a lesser club and turn him into a big player. Remember we only payed 10 million for him or something silly like that, he's easily worth 3 or 4 times that right now.

I have one concern about him though. Mourinho had a good comment about Robo in his post-match press conference when we played the mancs, saying that he got tired just by watching Andy making those 100m sprints every 2 minutes. The guy just seems to give too much at times, which is obviously imperative to his and our style of play and he must keep doing that, but I hope he doesn't end up injuring himself or burning out too soon. IMO, we really need to sign a quality back-up for him and rest him as often as we can, because I fear he may not be able to keep that tempo up in the long term.

Who would be a decent backup? Who could we go for these day....

How has Chilwell been doing recently? I remember we wanted him before we got Rob.

Who would come to Liverpool to be Robertson’s number 2 for the next 7 years?

Why do we always assume a first team player or backup has to be bought in? Why wouldn't we expect a player from the youth teams to step up?
It's a wonder there isn't a whole scale revolt at youth level. I mean, if you have a squad of 20+ at U23 level, surely some of them can expect to progress to the first team.

Robbo, TAA and the GOmez are living proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get quality. The three of them cost approximately £12m. Injuries to Moreno, Clyne and Lovren  gave these young players an opportunity to show just what they can do. We have rapidly moved from having a very lacklustre defence to a defence with Alison in goal that is probably one of the best in Europe. The injuries to Gomez, TAA and Matip are once again going to give Clyne, Lovren and the amazingly versatile Milner the chance to prove that they really are good enough. Personally I think our forwards need to start being less wasteful because I am not convinced that we will be so tight at the back.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years (10 years
are in brackets)
LFC £255m (£467m)
Everton £38m (£287m)
Arsenal £645m6 (£925m)
Spurs £510m (£541m)
Chelsea £788m (£1007m)
Man City £307m (£1012m)
Man United £702m (£1249m)

That would be an ideal outcome for everyone but if there is a young player capable of stepping up to the first team, we would have had him. Good young players do get a chance at Liverpool, TAA is living proof. However, if there isn't a good enough player then we'll go and buy one, simple as that.

On the other hand, there really aren't any good left backs that would be a good back-up out there. At the moment, I'd be content with extending Milner's contract to another year but explain to him that with the return of Chamberlain he won't get much time in midfield, so he'll serve most of his contract as back-up to Robo or, if need be, to other players as well (he could play pretty much everywhere).
