Sorry to post a rumor on this thread, but a few of the normal ITK's on twitter are claiming that City have asked to be kept informed of his availability

Liverpool Echo are now reporting meeting's in london tomorrow with Barcelona

Liverpool FC will hold talks with Barcelona on Wednesday after the Spanish giants finally made an approach to sign Luis Suarez.

The ECHO understands that Reds chief executive Ian Ayre has agreed to meet a delegation from Barcelona in London.

It will mark the start of negotiations between the clubs over a potential deal for the Uruguayan striker.

Ayre will also take the opportunity to step up Liverpool's pursuit of Barca attacker Alexis Sanchez.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is a big admirer of the Chile international, who is valued at around £30million.

Ayre will spell out to the Catalans that there is no chance of Suarez being allowed to leave on the cheap – despite his four-month ban from all football for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Reds' owners remain adamant they don't want to sell and a transfer will only be sanctioned if Barcelona meet the valuation in the release clause of the lucrative new contract Suarez penned last December. That figure is believed to be between £70million and £80million.

Sanchez could become a vital makeweight in the transfer if Barcelona agree to let him move in the opposite direction.

The 25-year-old, who has also attracted interest from the likes of Juventus and Arsenal, lit up the World Cup in Brazil prior to Chile's agonising exit on penalties to the hosts.

Barcelona's long awaited move for Suarez came after weeks of speculation with reports in Spain suggesting they have already agreed personal terms with the striker.

Liverpool were braced for an approach following Suarez's public apology for the bite on Monday – something Barcelona had demanded from the player's advisers prior to them trying to secure his services.

Barca sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta spoke of his admiration for Suarez at the Nou Camp following the unveiling of Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla.

“Suarez has shown he is humble enough to admit an error, which is very important,” he said.

“He has been humble enough to apologise to those he has affected because it happened in the middle of a festival of football. In this case it’s the best thing a person can do.

“Everyone knows that Luis is an excellent player. Everyone knows last season he played in various positions in attack, but everyone also knows that he is a Liverpool player.”

Croatia midfielder Rakitic added: “The fact he has had the character and the strength to go in front of everyone and say sorry says a lot about him as a person.

“I rarely say that I am wrong so this says a lot about him, he has shown the character and strength he has so he should be commended for that.

“Regardless of whether the club signs him or not, his quality is unquestionable. He has shown a lot of quality with Uruguay and scored more than 30 goals (last season) with Liverpool, so he has the necessary quality to play for Barca.”

Zubizarreta did little to quell talk about the Catalans agreeing to sell Sanchez as he added: “Regarding Alexis, there have been offers. We will try and find a solution best for everyone.”

haha just my tongue in cheek reply to tonyeh... we did to other team what another team will do to us. we ransack Southampton and for their best players so naturally other clubs at the top of the food chain are going to come after ours. Don't read to much into my rep, y above...I love to have Lallana here and while it's sad to plan for days without Suarez , but so be it. We can do with the £80M and also without the controversy and his goals.

Has the entire thing been engineered by Suarez, his agent and Barcelona? Before Luis's almost last chance chomp (Uruguay looked as if they were going out!) we were talking about not less than £100m so as things stands it was possibly the smallest and most expensive meal Liverpool FC have ever paid for !!!  I'm not really one for conspiracy theories but.................

I'm starting to suspect the same thing.  :glare:

The only thing that goes against this, is him wanting to win all the time.

He knew doing this would have be detrimental to Uruguay's chances in advancing, but hey maybe Barcelona made him an offer he couldn't' refuse.

If we did sell him and somehow ended up getting Sanchez + 50m

How would you guys feel throwing Monaco 60m for "Ham-es" Rodriguez  (would need to raise another 10m selling Spastas and Borini as quickly as possible):

Our front line would look something like this:

             Rodriguez (23yo)

Sterling (19yo) Lallana (26yo)   Sanchez (25m)

Bench:   Coutinho (22yo), Sturridge (24yo), Lambert (32yo)

I know it's a bit fantasy football as Monaco don't have any need to sell one of the world's hottest prospects at the moment but (except for Lambert) look at their ages, fits the FSG model very well!

Why did he sign a new contract if he had his heart set on a move to Barca? This is why football is a load of dishonourable w@nk where peoples word means nothing.
All this manoeuvring and plotting is pathetic. If he wants to go then let him
We dont need a player who wont die for the shirt

I think the contract extension was signed early last season for the benefit of both parties. Suarez knew he need to have to clear get out clause inserted in the contract and the club wanted to have a higher guarantee buy out clause in the event of Luis eventual exit. The increased salary (£250,000/week) plus any performance related bonus was to sweeten the deal and making sure Luis does put in a good shift so his marketability are peaked come this summer.

I believe the timing is right for both the club and the player to move on. Luis will now be the marquee player at Barcelona and get to be closer to his family while the club is able to move on from a position of strength having achieve what many of us thought was unattainable last August. The £80M will help us to improve our overall squad for the challenges ahead.

In a funny way, Luis latest incident at Brazil was a blessing because it makes it much easier for many of us to finally let him go. We must be proud to have him wearing our jersey for a few short season at least. Oh how much the old red nose, and Maureen or Arsene would love to have him in their team...

Make no mistake...very few players play for the badge now and football has became a big business. As a LFC supporter for the past 43 years it pains me to see a player with the caliber of Luis leave but we cannot blame him for his decision. every player will only play for themself as will the club making all their decisions to be commercially successful both on and off the pitch. the game has been tainted with a lot of oil money and business people and unfortunately we just have to live with it.

Now it's time to look forward to next season and soon Luis will be forgotten just like we did when Owen, then Torres leaving many moons ago. Believe!
