Begovic
Richards. Skrtel/Ilorri. Sakho. Coleman
Hendo. Barkley
Sterling. Coutinho. Lallana
Sturridge
Odd. You don't think Gerrard will be a certain start next season?
I haven't said who I want to start next season, I'm just wondering if fans think the idea of selling our best player in order to strengthen other area's of the team is a good one.
Yakka,
Its an interesting question. For me its too risky.... though on paper, it does look tempting.
Richards for one is a gamble. He has been out of action for a long time and something smells funny as 2 city managers have chosen to ignore him as a squad member. Once upon a time he was considered superb and i for one was always an admirer of his talents but something has apparently changed... I suspect its either physical or attitude.
Coleman is an interesting proposition but he is used to playing in a more balanced (not too attack oriented setup) and our style of play may expose him or rather any limitations he may have when much more is expected of him.
Barkley is someone that I think will suit us very well and I am a big fan. Probably the least risky to ingrate into the squad. A definite yes for me and if i was in charge, i would move mountains to land him.
Adam Lallana I am not completely sold on.... He has had a wonderful season and full kudos to the lad but he is tiny and not physical enough, in my books, to play in the center of the park. Perhaps as left sided midfielder as you have envisaged in the line up posted, he may be ok. But no, I am not entirely convinced. He does have the skills and technical capability but i wonder if this is a flash in the pan year for him and mentally I am not sure he is tough enough.
Begovic is a yes for sure... though I suspect that if we had a better leader in the CB position, we would not need him to replace Mign
Plus there is that risk of getting all of these new players to integrate well. I won't use the Tottenham misadventure with Bale as an example as I don't think that is an entirely correct conclusion to derive, as Bale alone did not make the whole team though he was an important cog. I thought Tottenham was poorly man managed by AVB and they have a scumbag of a chairman who was too trigger happy.
In short, to answer your questions, NO, its not a good idea to sell Luis to get the team above.
For me, the areas we need stregthening for sure are RB, one CB, CM... a hard as nails one.... and a engine room type.... someone down the left.
I know it is not popular, but I would defintely cash in on Sturridge as I certainly don't think he is mentally tough enough and i don't like the impression he gives me of being a prima donna and a high maintenance player.
so no mate... IMHO, that is not a good idea.
