FABIO BORINI- Official thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I really feel for Borini. He struggled to make an impact in the 10 or so appearances he made in a dysfunctional side, with many fans happy to write him off, and then picked up 2 consecutives long term injuries. It would have been interesting to see how well he played when we started to come good in November/December time.

I’m happy to see him back and hopefully he’ll pick up a goal or two before the season finishes.

He looked good on his return today and netted his first league goal.

Nice that he scored but so could my grandmother against that Newcastle defence.

Boroni will have no better chance to win us all over while Suarez is sorting his issues but If he gets injured again any time soon I will start calling him Kewell no2.

Only at Liverpool when you score does the doom and gloom increase rather than decrease...... Come on lads, give the fella chance, you should be over the moon he came back with a bang.

what a cruddy thing to say, the lad has had a poor run so far and he's found the net in the first minute of his return, try to be a little happier for him

Borini has struggled to settle and has been plagued by injury. Ok he's no Messi but surely it would be unreasonable to write him off so quickly. Time to get behind him and remember he plays for LFC. If he scores against Everton on Sunday his status will change immediately such is the fickle nature of today's modern football fan.

It's unfair to judge the lad on this season, because he's had a nightmare with injuries and what not.

Give the lad some pitch time from now until the summer and hopefully, after a full pre-season, he'll show us what he's made of.  I was impressed with his goal against the barcodes and hopefully it's the sign of more to come.

17 appearances, 2 goals, where is the fooking joy ???

If he scores an important goal against proper opposition that might convince me to be more positive.

My faith is in short supply,I'll need a few really good goals to top that up.

Killerp - I don't think it is about 17 games and 1 goal. I think it is more about some supporters gleefully castigating one of BR's first signing and that started happening after the lad had played less than a handful of games. As supporters should we give players more time? Henderson and even Downing who were both pathetic last season have improved considerably and most of us had written them off. Carroll has started to improve at West Ham and I don't mind admitting that I don't think that Andy will ever live up to his ridiculous £35m price tag but that is hardly his fault - Andy didn't set the price.

Crouchie went over 20 (I think) games before he scored when he first joined LFC. We kept the faith and he became a favourite.

I'm happy to give Borini a bit more time before throwing the towel in.

whilst i agree with your sentiment (some players like mcdermott took 3 years before they became regulars) i do worry wether borini has enough `weapons` in his game to trouble top defenders.
one thing i will say though is that sometimes it`s hard to believe what confidence can do for a player, a player that cant even trap a bag of cement one minute can look like a world beater the next once he finds a bit of self belief.
borini`s confidence has been rock bottom so we have been seeing the worst of him, not the best so there`s a lot more to come from him thats for sure, wether thats enough to turn him into a top striker we`ll have to wait and see.

Agree with this.

Borini hasn't shown an awful lot when he has been fit that suggests he can be a force in the premier league.

But writing the lad off completely is foolish.  17 games isn't enough when you consider he's trying to adapt from Serie A (which is obviously a completely different style) and before he'd properly settled he's had a broken foot and then a dislocated shoulder.  Add to that when he was playing he was mostly deployed out wide when he's a centre forward.

I like his attitude, his intensity and his movement.  I haven't been convinced by his finishing or his ability to get fully involved in a game.  He deserves at least another season.
one thing i will say though is that sometimes it`s hard to believe what confidence can do for a player, a player that cant even trap a bag of cement one minute can look like a world beater the next once he finds a bit of self belief.
