Yes, we'll be very lucky to get a single point in the next 2 tough games. I expect us to be severely beaten and slide down to about 12th/13th. Coutinho should have chosen Southampton instead of us. He's misled by the history of this club. Today's Liverpool is a mid table side managed by an unproven manager who only knows how to talk well and owned by stingy, stupid, clueless owners who specialise in baseball and are still learning about football.
Back to the game, Oldham were just like Stoke and they had nothing to lose and played their hearts out. Even if they were thrashed, nobody would blame them. The Liverpool team on the other hand were full of inexperienced young players and/or not many first team regulars. And those few first team regulars who were playing had an off day and were not given the service they needed to shine. Those players were Jones, Robinson, Coates, Wisdom, Sterling, Allen, Borini. I noticed when Stevie came on, the tide turned to our favour and also Oldham were more interested in defending their lead. Our passing, composure and confidence were awful. If BR is going to use those non first team regular players throughout this FA Cup campaign, I'm glad we're knocked out early to save from further blushes. Imagine had we played manure, city or chelsea away yesterday? It could have been a 5-0 thrashing with that poor side.
With Henderson and Allen as the 2 central midfielders I knew right from the start the result would be a disappointment. We need an experienced creative midfielder to supply the ammunition to the front men to score and apart from Stevie, we have no one. I'll say it again, FSG policy of signing young, potential talented youngsters is good but you have to have a balance of youth and experience to fight for top 4. With only promising youngsters in the first team, you'll forever be a Work in Progress and while you're in that, the rich top sides will come and sign them and we'll become another Feeder club like Arsenal and we'll forever remain a Work in Progress mid table side. The thick heads of FSG need to wake up and realise this. The signing of Coutinho is an exciting one but he's only 20 and not a ready made experienced player and like wine we'll have to wait for about 3 years for him to mature and it will be scary to think where we will be in the table by then.
BR may be having a good run of results in the PL recently, but I still reserve my personal judgement of him after the end of this PL campaign. But my opinion of him so far is that he's not the finished article yet. He's an unproven young manager who is still struggling to learn how to manage a big club with high ambitions.
This club has become a bit of a farce IMHO in the past 20 years since Evans was appointed. Evans, Houllier and Rafa consistently qualified us for top 4 finish for most of their tenure and yet they were fired. Now we have a manager who can only help us finish mid table at best. If you look back long enough, we've regressed as a club in terms of PL performance.
