No he isn't, if he was Man City would have tried to sign him.  :eyebrow
I actually prefer Kelly to Johnson.

Johnson is a better RB than Kelly. In fact Kelly's performance against WBA only confirmed that. Johnson offers a hell of a lot more going forward than Kelly does, Kelly IMO is a CB.

Yeah because nobody would want Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Lucas, Gerrard or Suarez would they?

If someone offered good money for Johnson and or Gerrard we should sell, they are both very average players these days, far too hot and cold.

So we should sell Gerrard or at the very least strip him of the captaincy. What did he do lad, ***** your missus or were you the DJ he gobbed not so long ago?

i'd like to see kelly start at centre half against hearts. as you say, everything about him tells you he's a centre back. just look at his build for one. he'll do a job at fullback but like you say he's not comfortable enough on the ball going forward to be a fullback, especially in the modern game when teams rely on their fullbacks to provide the width.

I'd say Micah Richards is the best right back in the league at the moment.

kelly has always been a centre half, thats where he played when he came through the ranks (including reserve level and england youth and U21 level)
when there was an injury crisis at fullback despite martin being a natural CB the club thought that because of his height, strength and pace he`d probably have more of a chance of holding his own at first team level than some of the other lads in the reserves.
it`s a testament to kelly`s natural athleticism that he`s done as well as he has at fullback, not many natural CB`s could have adapted as well as he has, the likes of hyypia and tony adams were top centre halves but they wouldnt have stood a chance out there. when martin puts his head down, sprints 50 yards down the line powering past players with his pace and drive then crossing it on the run, how many natural CB`s could do that? how many natural CB`s have the stamina and athleticism to run up and down the line all day? fullbacks cover as much ground as centre mids in the modern game.
most CB`s dont reach their peak until their late 20`s / early 30`s, martin is 21, the fact he got into the england euro`s squad in a position thats not natural to him shows how good he is going to be in 3 or 4 years time.
i remember reading in the echo when city put a bid in for skrtel that the club were tempted to take the money because they know they have kelly coming through, the club think kelly is so far ahead of the curve in terms of development and he is so quick and athletic for a tall lad that they have a future star CB on their hands.

It sucks to be a defender. Skrtel was immense today, but one stupid stupid mistake has lost his team a win, and ruined his night.

Think I'd rather be a striker than a defender...

He was our second best player, even after the bad pass, behind Allen.  He played fantastic today, and I'm sorry it was him that made the mistake.  With the style we play, this is going to happen on occasion.  I was hoping it wouldn't happen so soon, but clubs see how often we play the ball back to our keeper, so they sit back there and wait for us to make a pass just like that.

Scored an immense header and put in a strong and much improved performance after the WBA debacle, but unfortunately showed his boneheaded side with the backpass that led to City's second. He should have been aware that the defence was spread very wide and realised the risk involved in making the back pass, and then either cleared it or made damn sure that he didn't leave it short for an opposing player to latch onto.

I don't want to blame Skrtel for our draw with Man City because he wasn't the only defender to make an error, Martin Kelly cost us as well, but two cast-iron mistakes in a week is not good for a defender who was arguably our best player last season. 5 goals conceded in our opening 2 matches in the league, this has to change against Arsenal. We need a clean sheet and a nice three points.

I really liked Rodgers defence of Skrtel and the fact he makes everything team orientated. He is like Dalglish in that sense.
