Problem is the new manager already knows that it's pointless playing a strong team in cup competitions and risking injury/suspensions, when the outcome even if you do a domestic cup double is most likely the sack if 4th place is not achieved......
A return to Wembley for 2 cup finals in a season will always be cherished even if it was an expensive do.
The top clubs already play the kids/reserves in the cup competitions (at least in the first few rounds). This is nothing new.
A top club also needs a good squad depth to be able to compete in multiple competitions.
