the league table doesnt lie at this stage of the season, you finish were you deserve to be.
the season is over 9 months not 9 weeks so there`s no getting away from the fact that we have been abysmal in the league, this is our joint worst finish in the top flight for 58 years and the other time we finished 8th was when souness had that horrorendous season and even then although he finished 8th he still had more points than kennys side does. i`m not trying to put a positive spin on anything but.....managers do have poor seasons, ferguson finished 11th and 13th in consecutive seasons with united and even flavour of the month moyes escaped relegation by the skin of his teeth one season, that was after finishing 7th the previous year as well. brian clough was thrown out of leeds after a terrible run and that was in his mid 70`s heyday....they all bounced back.
it wasnt that long ago pardew was being relegated and nearly took charlton down another division to the third tier of english football and that was when they were pre season favourites to go back up.
if we were losing to everyone i`d say maybe it`s time for a change but we have shown we can more than compete in head to heads with the top teams in the division, we are not a poor side just a very inconsistent one. lets not forget as well that we have won our first piece of silverware in 6 seasons too and got to the final of the other domestic competition.
Can we please stop talking about the past? I get sick and tired of tedious defences! Brain Clough is as dead as a dodo, I am not interested in what happened to him at Leeds United forty years ago. I'm interested in what is happening in the present. The past is the past and yes managers do have poor seasons. Benitez had one with Liverpool and was sacked for it (allegedly). However managers will often try and alter the way their season is heading if the ship is going off course. Not Kenny, he's just stood on the touchline all season looking for the majority of it, glum and full of dread! He walks into pre and post match interviews in an aggressive manner, he then makes constant excuses about bad luck etc and it's more of the same next week. It's been crystal clear since January that his methods were not working and yet he has still presisted with things in the vain hope that things will slot into place. His talk of our season being successful is depressing is this how far we've sunk as a club? It must be, we must actually be a mid-table football club at present because we certainly operate and behave in such a fashion not befitting with our club's prestigious history (you know the stuff you like to throw into debates constantly?) I lremember Hodgson getting slammed for playing down expectations, yet when Kenny does it, it's perfectly acceptable.
We are a poor side though, we're about four or five genuine quality away from having a good squad. Inconsistency to me equates to poorness, an inconsistent person is a poor calibre of person etc, that is no exception in this scenario. We need more investment in players, but I honestly don't trust Kenny to sign anyone of genuine quality! I can see us with James McClean, Mohamed Diame, Hugo Rodallega and Gary Gardener under Kenny.
get a grip of yourself, i didnt just use examples from way back i mentioned how both moyes and pardew have bounced back recently from bad times.
i dont blame you or anyone else being angry about how we`ve performed this season, i`m not exactly full of the joys of spring myself over it, but the facts are dalglish inherited a club almost in civil war and he has only had one full season in charge. it`s a big ask to go from civil war to champions league in one full season, especially when your up against 3 of the richest clubs on the planet in city, united and chelsea.
