ALBERTO AQUILANI - Official Thread

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Roy Hodgson has dismissed reports that Alberto Aquilani could make a premature return to Liverpool.

The Italian playmaker has flourished since his temporary return to Serie A and it had been suggested he would receive a shock recall to Merseyside to provide cover following Steven Gerrard's recent injury.

But Hodgson insists that the midfielder, who failed to justify his £17.1million price tag during his one and only season at Anfield, will remain at Juventus until the end of the season.

He said: "I don't think there's any chance of that. The loan spell is quite clear.

"I think he's loaned out until the end of the season so we won't be able to bring him back until then."

Also ...

"I hope to convince the directors of Juventus to buy me from Liverpool," said the 27-year-old. "At Juve I would like to open a new era with the team. It is a lot (of money), but they can negotiate.

"Juve was a huge opportunity for me, I could not lose it. Leaving Italy was not easy, I faced many life changes."

He doesn't want to play his football here.  Sorry to burst the bubble but it's 98% nailed-on that we'll recoup about £14m for him next year and he'll stay gone.

As long as we get most of that money back, coupled with the loan fee for the season means his signing has been a total disaster and in his defence he looked pretty good at times when he was up for it. Shame it didnt work out but we are going to need another central midfielder in the near future because Poulsen doesnt seem to have the speed for the Premier League.

He's not coming back, despite what that article says. He's already said ages ago that he wants to stay in Italy

Erm.. if his future was uncertain then surely he wouldnt have ruled out going back to england? (which he pretty much did)

I think himself and everyone new that he wasnt coming back as soon as he went out on loan.

I was one of the few people on this forum that thought Aquilani was brilliant, it was a massive mistake sending him on loan.

Put a picture up on Brixton highstreet of a world famous cartoon character dressed up as a fake superhero and whats goin to happen exactly Rocky? The only thing that could have been taken as offensive was the word on the sig, and it wasnt in the slightest bit intentional which was blatantly obvious when taken within context but your little rant stirred up enough of a sh*storm that the Mods thought it could be classed as offensive so I replaced it with Mintberry Crunch. A victory for trollers everywhere.

Hi all

Just wondered your ‘mid-season’ thoughts on this chap.

Following our displays this season to date, would you like to see him return for next season (if not sooner) or do you feel it is highly unlikely.

There are some notes below taken from the Wikipedia website as a reminder of some of his more impressive performances.

Taken From Wikipedia:
Aquilani made his first Premier League start against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 26 December 2009 and received a standing ovation from the Kop when he was substituted in the 84th minute.
Aquilani next started for Liverpool in their 2–0 win over Bolton Wanderers, where he got his second assist for Liverpool. He scored his first goal for Liverpool on 15 March 2010 against Portsmouth and he also assisted Fernando Torres for the fourth Liverpool goal. He was voted man of the match by the fans on Liverpool's official website. Aquilani also gained the man of the match award in his next Liverpool league start. In his next start for Liverpool he finished the match with three assists during a 4–0 away win against Burnley On 29 April 2010 he scored a goal against Atlético Madrid in the Europa League. Aquilani won the LFC Man Of The Match award again after his performance.

Finally, thanks to you all for your thoughts, been a great read these past 12 months. Festive best wishes to you all.
