:no , even if he agreed to play for free.

We need a solid REGULAR back four, no place for players who can only make "cameo" appearances.

Can anyone confirm this?  I haven't seen him play, but he did help Udinese to a CL spot.

Even if we went for Woodgate, hasn't he left Tottenham because all they offered was pay as you play?

Agree with Woof, we need a consistent back four
All round the fields of Anfield Road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Stevie Heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
'Bout the glory, round the Fields of Anfield Road

I have seen that Zapata guy a few times and he would be a good buy if the price is right.

Yes, for a lower price I would go for Zapata. I'm not convinced that he'll be that good in the Prem though. Although I think that he is physically strong enough for it, he might find it difficult to adjust as he is used to play in very different style than the one in the Prem. Might not have the speed for it as well. If he signs I wouldn't expect too much from him, would be just good enough I think, better than the Greek in any case. Don't know his contract but I think that 8 mill max should be the price. Bottom line, I wouldn't mind him but if all things are being considered, between him and Scott Dann, I'd say Dann.

From what I have seen he has quite a lot of pace.

I would say our defence is as weak as it has been for years.

We don't even have 1 dominant dependable cb anymore.

Skretl, Soto, Carra isn't even good enough to be 1st choice imo.

Carra has been going downhill the last couple of years and he is only heading one way.

Agger can't be fit for half a season even which means when he plays he is always lacking match fitness.

We need at least one if not more absolutely top class cb to even get into the top 4 imo. What we have isn't good enough.

Heck, even Fulham and Bolton have better defence than us since the have Hangeland and Cahill, players who are both much bettar than what we have.

Me exaggerating?

So cause we stuffed Fulham at the end of the season makes it a good season defensivly.

The fact is we haven't been this poor since 98/99 in the PL!!

As the seasons roll on and without replacing the injury prone Agger, the mentalist Skertel and the pensioner Carragher we're getting weaker and weaker. We need CBs.

I actually totally agree with you on this.
Agger is a top player but cant be relied on.
Carra can still do a job but is on the decline.
Skrtel is for me garbage and needs fcking off asap.
We definitely need a top player to come straight into the first team.

I for one wouldn't be complaining if our biggest money signing was a CB (presuming he was top class). The defense has done well since Dalglish arrived, but even if they continue the good form, Cara, Agger, Skrtel, Soto, Kelly, Ayala and Wilson (has his loan to Rangers been confirmed?), simply doesn't make a good enough list. Add someone of really quality in there and it starts to look significantly better as most of our CB aren't bad players, and partnered with the right guy will do a good job.
