So it drags on ,and on ,and on ..the Lads stature is growing with every game ,and his value will soar now he is the mainstay for his national team . I reckon even when the Lad becomes the new captain of Brazil, and is coveted by some of Europe's top clubs ...we will still be subject to the blinkered's dance of denial   :D

Lucas has worked hard for it and I think he deserved it.  I hated Lucas 2 years ago, but last year I stared to warm up to him a lot.  This year he has proved that he is a red who cares more about LFC than himself.  He's matured a lot, doesn't give away nearly as many stupid fouls as he used to (Masch gave away tons of stupid fouls too) and he has greatly improved.  I'm glad we signed him to a new contract because we could see great things from him within the next couple seasons.  Masch was 26 years old when he was finally pushed onto the scene as a really talented footballer, so Lucas still has a couple of years before we boot him.  He's good enough that other clubs would really want his services, so signing him on a contract just means we can ask more for him.

I highly doubt someone like Darren Fletcher or Antonio Valencia are highly rated throughout Europe but they're very very important players to Manchester United, it's the same with Lucas.  He probably will never be known worldwide as this massive player but he'll be very important for us now and in the future imo.

Here here. Still can't get me head round some of the detrimental remarks still aimed in his direction :(

Time will tell whether Lucas is the player we need for our title aspirations in the future. Will he keep his good performances in a consistent basis? will he be an important part of our team when we challenge for the title? or will he be a squad player when Kenny/Comolli buy a top midfielder in the summer? All these questions will be answered in time. However, for now Lucas deserves a contract for improving and being such a good player for us this season.

Clearly Lucas has improved.  He's consistently decent, but never dominates a game.  Never have I watched a game and then thought 'what a game Lucas has just had'.  Sadly he'll never be as good as Mascherano or Alonso, it's no surprise he rarely got a look in when they were here, or that he looked substandard in those days when he did play.  It remains to be seen whether he'll get a look in for Brazil either when it comes to meaningful games.

He still has lapses of concentration and gives away silly free kicks, although les so these days.  His passing range is still not great and his passing accuracy isn't top class either.  Never the less he's good for setting a tempo and moving the ball on quickly to keep us ticking over.

But let's not build him up to be something he's not here.  Dependable, improved, committed and worth his place in the team at present?  Yes.  Is he good enough to have a central midfield starting berth in a team hoping to challenge for the top prizes?  Not in my opinion, no.  He'll be moved on or spend a lot of time on the bench when we get better players in and as far as Brazil goes, I'll be very surprised if he starts games for them in big tournaments.  I'll be chuffed if he proves me wrong though, can't fault the lad's attitude after the abuse he's taken since he's been here.

I thought he was neither good nor bad today.  Unfortunately this team was screaming for a commanding performance in the midfield.

I won't celebrate Rafa going........ but I will be over the moon if Dalglish comes in. League within 2 years if he gets the job, AND YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT.

Saw Lucas interviewed today on SSN, he reckoned his hardest time at Liverpool was when the fans started booing him, he went on to say that it only made him stronger and more determined.

If that what it takes to improve his performance , cue more boo's.  :D

Fair play to the fella, he still ain't "great" BUT he is improving.

my sentiments exactly. I think he deserves his contract, but time will tell whether he will step it up once we buy a top drawer like Alonso or Masch.

He has improved obviously but never good enough for the first 11...squad player at best and I'm being generous.

I don't rate him nor Kuyt but that's my opinion, others will disagree but that's fair enough.  Scapegoats often for good reason, neither are good enough.

Lucas is like a chameleon.
It depends on whos around him and who hes playing against, how he plays in a game.
With great players around him and against the likes of chelsea or the skanks we get a decent performance from him. Against lesser opposition he brings himself to their level and blends in with them.
Thats what he did yesterday, true to form, bringing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the table.
He wasnt the only one, by the way, but when we need our senior players to step up to the mark against the likes of west brom, Lucas will always struggle due to his lack of talent.
