Yes i admit my mind is set already with Lucas. But please feel free to enlighten me how he "bossed" the Wolves game?

your watchin a different game to me mate.
Lucas and Meireles bossed the game, Meireles was the stand out player due to his goal, his energy and the way he dictated everything. But Lucas was brilliant, i lose count of how many interceptions he wins in matches. He also wins most headers despite his size.
Yes he gave away a few free kicks but at times someone that is making that many challenges in a game will do that.
His passing has improved as his confidence has risen.
One of our best players this season i think.

Lucas one of the best in this miserable season so far says it all....

If words as "Boss" and "Brilliant" are associeted with Lucas then i must be watching another game...We didn't Boss the Game and i haven't seen one Brilliant player on the pitch..No perspective with you guys.

Thought the Lad was exceptional in the first half and just very good in the second ..... seriously the Lad just gets better and better every game he plays, and for me personally going on his overall display earlier you couldn't put a ceiling on how good he can become ,I think under Kenny we will see him become an even better player ..............

would you take mikel, anderson, song or barry over him? because they're the players who do the same job for their respective sides.

i'd take Barry, Mikel and Song over Lucas every day of the week. They're all better footballers.

thats probably fair enough but he is playing well enough to a) merit his place in the side and b) meaning it isnt a pririty position to upgrade compared with our areas of the squad or team.

there are people out there that will forever hate lucas, whatever he does. if he one day becomes captain of the team and leads us to winning a few trophies with commanding displays from the middle and chips in with a dozen or so goals, there will still be people who will refuse to give him any credit whatsoever. i mean, there are still people who firmly believe he is only capable of passing the ball two feet sideways or backwards. and these are people who are watching the game as well. i just don't get it.

We are so used to Lucas playing sh'ite that when he has a decent game (i.e. not as sh'ite as usual) people get carried away and say hes brilliant. I think theyre so happy he hasnt fu'cked up as much as he is expected to and that makes them think hes class.
He is not class. He is sometimes hard working, sometimes lazy. Sometimes ok, most times cr'ap.
He is a likeable, honest and loyal player and its hard to dislike someone like that. But a great player he aint...

nail on the head thommo.

i doubt he will ever captain our side and drive us on to great things,or even be anywhere near a world beater or weigh in with a dozen goals a season.
he's average at best but did have a good game today partly because he didnt make the usual amount of mistakes he normally does.

This feels like the Dirk Kuyt debate from a couple of years back all over again, with some vastly underrating him and a few going OTT in praising him.  For me, he's a decent to good player: never sh!te like some make out but not destined to blossom into a top, top player either.  I think he can do a job in the centre of the park and earns his corn most matches without truly grabbing games by the scruff of the neck like the top midfielders do.  He's about old enough now where we have a good sense of what he's got in his locker and the truly world beater stuff ain't in there, sorry to say.  That said, he gets way more stick than he deserves, with far too many people having decided in the past he's not up to it and letting that stubborn opinion colour their sense of his play now.  Just like Dirk he's got his limitations but is worthy of his spot in the side.

its not a case of 'hating' Lucas. Personally, i've never considered him to be as bad as some make out, just like i don't think Poulsen is as rubbish as some say.

However, as someone has already stated, he's an average player who sometimes plays well, and sometimes doesn't. But, ask youtself this, would any of the top 4 teams in this league have him in their side? Would any of the top 6 give him 40+ starts a season? The answer is no...he would struggle to make the bench in most cases.

If we want to improve our team, and our chances of one day challenging for the league, we need to stop fooling ourselves that players like Lucas are good enough.

We need better players and the likes of Lucas, Maxi, Babel, Poulsen, Skrtel, Aurelio, Spearing, Konchesky and Jovanovic need to be shown the door.

If he was competing with a Souness, McDermott, Molby, McMahon, Whelan, Redknapp, Hutchison, Alonso or Mascherano for a shirt then, clearly, he shouldn't get a look in.  As it is Poulsen, Cole, Shelvey and Spearing have yet to make a compelling case for selection in front of him.  He's doing his best and deserves our support, even if we are used to seeing better.  As for Barry, Mikel, Song et al, are they Brazillian internationals???
