Great post Lakes

Each game we are improving.  The performance against Spurs was brilliant.  They where closing down better than they have all season and some of the passing was the best I have seen for a long time.

There is still much room for improvement but I believe we are seeing the hard work done on the training pitch transfer into the games.

We are not that far from 4th position with all teams dropping points, amd the strides we are making fill me with confidence that when we start getting a bit of luck (every team needs some) we will make it back into Champions League spot.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

Brilliant ?! Now while it was an improved performance away from home brilliant is way over the top - and if you think it was brilliant then our standards have dropped massively ..

TOTTENHAM   LIVERPOOL
Possession
Tottenham 51%   Liverpool 49%
Attempts on target
Tottenham 13      Liverpool 8
Attempts off target
Tottenham 7        Liverpool 4
Corners
Tottenham 5        Liverpool 8

A quick snippet of the stats from the game .

I thought it was a great game and we shold have won it easily if Torres hadn't wasted his chances. I can't blame Roy for anything in that game although I do curse him for having bought that useless pr1ck Konchesky!
We really really need a new striker though and we should consider selling nando in January as he just doesn't look interested any more and the money raised could mean buying 2-3 good quality players.
For me the jury is still out on Hodgson but I really can't see how he can be blamed for yesterday, we played good positive attacking football from start to finish.

Lets not forget we blocked a shot of theirs on the line , they could of easily had another penalty as well as missing one so cant really say we should of won it easily if we had taken our chances , they had plenty , more than us on target . A draw would of been the fair result .

The thing is, if we put Maxi's chance away, it would have been really difficult for them to get back (we are not Arsenal), The chances we had were wasted by the daftness of our players, while Tottenham's chances were actually stopped by a world class block by Carragher, and Meireles' block. Maxi just f*cked up his chance himself!

True mate - but i do worry when someone says we were brilliant yesterday - has our standards dropped that low now ?

exactly, we only have ourselves to blame for not winning yesterday. Both Maxi and Torres should have bagged a goal.

Konchesky aside, i think we're finding our feet and (quite possibly) our best formation. We looked good as 442 an, with a new striker in Jan, i think it will be the way forward.

What happens when we come up against a Man City or a Chelsea who play 3 in the middle ? We tried 442 against City and got destroyed in the middle due to their numerical advantage ?

play gerrard as 2nd striker, and give him the free role. He can then move into midfield if needed.

I don't believe in this numerical advantage, its 11 vs 11, so in the end its fair. What matters is the players we play and who gets the best out of who.

If you had a 4-4-2 team with Zidane and Gerrard in the middle, Torres and Tevez strikers, you would sh*t on any team even if the other team has 6 or 7 playing in midfield.

You just need the balance

Not going to disagree with that at all - that is the way it should be - change your formation to suit the way the oppo plays as opposed to being home or away .
