What concerns me is what we NEED now is a strong Capello style of character to get the squad focused and give 100%, the maturity to convice the club an supporters that we can compete and the status to attract the right players come a very important january transfer window.

The reality is if Roy stays we must lumber on in agony but even if the new owners boot him out, their prefered style is to bring in a young, upandcoming replacement who likes statistics with no known success record as yet to replace him.

So the encumbent is wrong and I fear the owners replacement policy is wrong as well. This is not the time for Owen Coyle to walk into our changing room and convert water into wine. Its difficult to see a way forward as if we go with the owners, such a manager would ned 3 seasons to find his way.

I must digress  Reg I think Owen Coyle is an ambitious manager who will use Bolton as a stepping stone in his career as he done Burnley .... Bolton as they are now are playing some pretty impressive attacking football when the occasion demands it ,but they can also mix it up when they need to and can be aggressive and hard to beat ...Coyle would be my ideal choice to come in as manager ...he knows the Premiership now, and is another hard nosed Jock who will make the dressing room and training ground his own .... plus I can see this Guy usurping Taggart at the Mancs........  unless we snap him up

I like Owen Coyle too, although much of the criticism people aimed at the current manager before he started would be aimed in his direction also (lack of European experience, small-time manager, never won anything, not fit for the club etc etc). Not forgetting of course the chief crime which oyle shares with Roy Hodgson, his name isn't Rafael Benitez.

I like him though, he'd do a decent job I've no doubt about it. To get us out of the 4th-8th bracket which I feel sure we are in right now however, is going to need patience from the fans, a fair amount of money and a LOT of managerial skill. Even Mourinho would struggle IMHO to get this current squad of players (and before anyone says it it ISN'T a patch on one that came second a few seasons back) into the top 3..

As far as the ownership is concerned, not only are they going to have to find significant money for new players, but they are going to have to be prepared to take significant financial hits on the deadwood as we ship them out/let their contracts run out.

Whoever we do appoint next, I desperately hope that the fans get behind him 100%. If he doesn't do significantly better in the transfer market and show much more motivational and tactical prowess than his predecessors, the club is doomed to perpetual mediocrity.

I fully support him while he is here in the way I want him to win every game, but that's because I love LFC not because I think he is the man for the job.You can support the manger but you can also be realistic and say he is not good enough, cause he is not.
We have played well in 3 games under Roy..Arsenal,UTD and Chelsea...now it does not take a genius to understand that these 3 games are self motivators for players, the managers job here is easy...pick 11 players and occasion delivers the passion....no big team talk or tactical genius required!

In the rest of our games we have been terrible,it's not an exaggeration to say we are playing terrible football(probably amongst the worst in the league)....it's hard to watch!

The club is just too big for the man,he is way out of his depth and under pressure!FFS every time they put the camera on him and ask a few questions he is like a rabbit caught in headlights,he falls apart and says something daft!

I would like to hear why people think he is up to the job.....what he has done so far to earn more time...what they can see that I can't!
Cause simply put,the fact that he is our manager is not enough.

HE could be dangerous for our future.Look at it this way NESV could hand him say £80million at the end of the season..we could finish in the bottom half near the bottom 3 maybe...what quality player would say....."oh I want to go and help Roy with the LFC revival" when UTD,City,Chelsea,Spurs etc are waving money at them too......I can't think of many!

Also the old Rafa left him a sh'it squad excuse does not wash either....OK granted it was not as good as UTD,City etc but he has better players available than most teams in the League....certainly a squad that should be doing better than having Played 13,won 4,drew,lost 5!!

He has to go ASAP...he is getting NOTHING from the players!!

Best Post in the entire thread!

I too would like to understand why people still think he is good enough for the job, that he should be given time.

His tactic's are incipid bordering on defeatest, the inevitibility of playing us at the moment must leave opposition Managers salavating at the thought.

Don't just traipse out the old diatribe that  "It's the Liverpool Way" or he's our Manager, We're all too painfully aware of that, back up the argument, because for the life of me i can't see one positive in him staying any longer!

but he tends to set the team out in a neg way, i dont feel he is to blame for the very poor passing that has taken place in the last two games, i dont think i have ever seen a liverpool team do passing like that, it was shocking

Absolutely agree with this.

It is in the best interests of this club if we part company now!

Di Matteo is another up and coming manager, although maybe too young to take on a big side.

But on Coyle would the players respect his presence? I think that's half the problem now.

Our team are not as bad as 17th/18th or even 9th though and I'm not buying into 'he's inherited a poor squad' as the focal excuse of our plight. Sure, we do have a few average Joe's in the squad but when you couple that with the tactics he's employed it honestly makes us look a lot worse than we really are.

I would like to clear something up from a personal perspective. I have not and would not defend anyone who is not doing a good job. It is totally significant that we have played well against Arsenal, United and chelsea and it gives the more enlightened of us the proof that the players are choosing which games to shine in and those they dont. We have been basically bullied by all the "lesser" teams and we have paid the price for our lack of bottle.
The manager part in all of this is of course significant. But I will stand by my absolute belief that the manager of my club, LFC, should have been respected and given a fair crack of the whip, regardless of who he is or how he got here. That is my character, the way Ive been brought up and how I live as a supporter of Liverpool Football Club. I make no apologies because I believe thats what makes us what we are.
Or were, as the case may be.

come on mate, we have no bench, one good striker. and thats about it, look at the set up of the club, the younger kids, they are very poor, we have started to get rid of them but a lot are still here.

we dont even have the full 25 home grown players that we are meant to, yes that was due to the last manager but thats over with now, we must face the trurh that the club needs so much work done on it and its going to take time.

Mick ...Owen Coyle is a fresh young manager who will give the fans the hope of eventually playing the type of football we have become renowned for ...for this season this is all I ask.. and if he can drag us into away games without the entire team capitulating under the most dire negative tactics I have ever been unfortunate enough to have witnessed in all my time as a Reds supporter ...then he will have my backing 100%
Mick we our currently one orchestra short of a conductor and that needs to change ..and if John Henry and Co are really the progressive types who make cold and sometimes hard calculated decisions then they need to adhere to the fact Roy is not the man for this job ...and he never was

Mick we our currently one orchestra short of a conductor and that needs to change ..and if John Henry and Co are really the progressive types who make cold and sometimes hard calculated decisions then they need to adhere to the fact Roy is not the man for this job ...and he never was[/quote]
RBG, if Roy didnt work, Coyle wouldnt either. We either stick with Roy, which aint working thus far, or go to Europe, get someone big and bad. Not even a Rikard or similar would be any good the state we are in

Hodgson needed a good start but one way or another its simply not happended and we all know hes just not going to last and worst of all he probably knows it as well. Under the circumstances he was worth a short and frankly we couldnt get anyone else when the club was up for sale but now we need a guy in that we can back long term and who can install a new philosophy at the football club. Its whether we do that now or in the summer thats the only call for the owners. Once fans turn you have pretty much had it and especially at Liverpool who usually back managers so it must be bad if Hodgsons getting pelters at this stage. I just want  a manager who will change the way we play and bring in young hungry footballers that can knock it about and entertain and at this point in time Rijkaard would seem suited to doing that as despite his patchy record in management he will go about the game the right way for this club.
