What concerns me is what we NEED now is a strong Capello style of character to get the squad focused and give 100%, the maturity to convice the club an supporters that we can compete and the status to attract the right players come a very important january transfer window.
The reality is if Roy stays we must lumber on in agony but even if the new owners boot him out, their prefered style is to bring in a young, upandcoming replacement who likes statistics with no known success record as yet to replace him.
So the encumbent is wrong and I fear the owners replacement policy is wrong as well. This is not the time for Owen Coyle to walk into our changing room and convert water into wine. Its difficult to see a way forward as if we go with the owners, such a manager would ned 3 seasons to find his way.
I must digress Reg I think Owen Coyle is an ambitious manager who will use Bolton as a stepping stone in his career as he done Burnley .... Bolton as they are now are playing some pretty impressive attacking football when the occasion demands it ,but they can also mix it up when they need to and can be aggressive and hard to beat ...Coyle would be my ideal choice to come in as manager ...he knows the Premiership now, and is another hard nosed Jock who will make the dressing room and training ground his own .... plus I can see this Guy usurping Taggart at the Mancs........ unless we snap him up
I like Owen Coyle too, although much of the criticism people aimed at the current manager before he started would be aimed in his direction also (lack of European experience, small-time manager, never won anything, not fit for the club etc etc). Not forgetting of course the chief crime which oyle shares with Roy Hodgson, his name isn't Rafael Benitez.
I like him though, he'd do a decent job I've no doubt about it. To get us out of the 4th-8th bracket which I feel sure we are in right now however, is going to need patience from the fans, a fair amount of money and a LOT of managerial skill. Even Mourinho would struggle IMHO to get this current squad of players (and before anyone says it it ISN'T a patch on one that came second a few seasons back) into the top 3..
As far as the ownership is concerned, not only are they going to have to find significant money for new players, but they are going to have to be prepared to take significant financial hits on the deadwood as we ship them out/let their contracts run out.
Whoever we do appoint next, I desperately hope that the fans get behind him 100%. If he doesn't do significantly better in the transfer market and show much more motivational and tactical prowess than his predecessors, the club is doomed to perpetual mediocrity.
