absolutely not. the key difference being in how we pressure, or don't, the opposition when they have possession in 'safe' areas. it was also some form of 4-4-2  - although a flexible version of it - which i very much doubt benitez would have played.

Still sit far too deep for my liking - with Essien Lampard and a fully fit Drogba that would of been a very dangerous approach . We still have to push so much higher and press them a lot higher .

From that, we can assess how much influence the current manager is having on the team.

For me it was 100% rafa.  Mick you can now come in and say it was 0%.

Well it wasn't 0% Rafa Reg, simply because most of the players were signed by him and our style was fairly ingrained. It was a long way off being 100% Rafa though and I'm very surprised you think it was (given that I have you down as having a clue and all that).

For starters we defend set-pieces in a completely different way. We used to defend zonally, now we defend with a hybrid but mostly man to man.

We used to hunt the ball in packs all over the pitch, our defensive philosphy was built around pressure on the football. Nowadays it's built upon steering the opposition into areas in which you'd like them to have the ball, singling players out amongst the opposition that you'll let have it all day long. 100% Mourinho more than 100% Benitez on that score.

We defend and indeed play much narrower, we are the definition of compact. Some might even say overly so (I would myself hand on heart), but not 100% Benitez in any way.

With the ball we don't commit as many men forward, although I'm not sure whether this is because of the players not realising that their attacking duties are just as important as their defensive ones. I actually think Roy wants the midfielders to get up and down more, his actions on the touchline indicate as such, as did Carragher's urging of Lucas to move on up.

All in all though far removed from Benitez. Remarkably so in fact considering he's only been in charge five minutes. Once again some might say we've changed toio much too soon, and I might even agree with them.

i'm not saying for an instant that our upturn in form and results is purely down to hodgson but it seems remarkable to deny that it is anything to do with him. the majority of the players have been saying for a while that they are enjoying working with him and that they are slowly getting the hang of how he wants them to play. yesterday the manager fielded a team and a system that worked and he deserves credit for that.

Obviously mate, only a fool would deny that Roy has been very influencial in our set up, our tactics and the like. To say it is down to the new ownership given the fact that by their own admission they know little about football is just about as desperate a straw clutch as you are ever likely to see.

Nowadays we play a completely different style to the one we used for much of last season. Whether or not it proves to be better we will se in time, but that is is different is surely beyond dispute. This isn't down to a change in the ownership, it's down to a change in the manager, pretending otherwise is just being silly.

Nice one Mick... I'll leave you to conduct the orchestra.... you're not worth the effort.

We just beat the league leaders FCS......

Can we just enjoy it for a moment and think on the positive please?

I've been away for a while and found this and other LFC forums in turmoil over the manager situation when I came back.....and to be honest it's doing me head in... we've already lost good posters like s@int and recently Scottbott.... We're gonna lose a lot more if things don't change cause it's so damn depressing. We've already had to live with years under the b@rstards.... now that we finally got in someone new who hopefully will help us turn the tide, we squabble among ourselves in a bitter game of one-upmanship, I told you so's, and simply refuse to let it lie and just focus on the future. Less we forget, we just won our last few games on the trot.... something to be grateful for and deffo worth celebrating.... no?

The past is just that... the past. Lets learn from it but don't let it become emotional baggage. Maybe then this forum can become fun again.

Don't mean to preach and apologies if this post comes across as such. Just my humble opinion.

Im so pleased with the result yesterday! But again I opt to stay cautious with Roy as I feel he may let his guard down slightly. Since the owners have taken charge, Roy has had 10 games to impress everyone, and NESV's vision of "winning" seems like taking full effect.

1 loss (against the Bitters) & 4 straight wins is commendible. Wins againt Wigan, Stoke & West Ham (9 points) is a huge must now! Dont mess it up Woy.

Now that we are playing better and winning some games, Roy deserves the credit.

Exactly, regardless if victory was a result of Serendipty, Chelsea injuries, brilliant team talk, fantastic tactics, Mrs Henry giving extra spring the step of players etc.

As manager Roy should get credit as Im sure he would got the critique if we had lost

It kind of sums up where we are with many fans. We've just won four matches on the bounce, one of which was an Away win at Bolton which was their only defeat there all season, another of which was against the reigning Champions and runaway league leaders Chelsea.

Now, we're being told that the next three league matches are also "must wins" and that WOY "mustn't mess it up". If we don't win them all , presumeably the daggers will be well and truly out again. If we do win them all, then presumeably we just pick the next three matches and say they are "must wins" as well. Sooner or later everyone will get their pound of flesh.

Well I hate to break it to you but that's what happens when you take 6 points out of 24 points in the first 8 games Mick. You need to keep winning to climb the table as there is no longer margin for error.

And the reason the next 3 games are must wins is because they are winnable games. If we are to improve from last season's position, which is the reason Roy was brought in, we need to beat teams like Wigan, Stoke and West Ham...

As you've agreed this team is capable of challenging for the final CL spot, and if that is to happen, we need to beat teams like Wigan, Stoke and West Ham...

Look at the table, 5th to 18th is only separated by 7 points. If we don't want to go back into the relegation zone, we need to win the next 3 games... and then we'll look from there whether we can afford to draw games or even lose them... fair enough?

Sh'ite when we lose. Jammy when we win. Back handed compliments from some and no acknowledgement at all from others. I reckon thats how its going to be for the rest of the season. Oh well...
I agree that this "must win the next 3 games" is yet another way to undermine our manager. Its like this "we have to finish higher than 7th otherwise it will have been pointless changing the manager". Totally disregarding everything thats happened which has led to the current situation.
I'll say it again. Well done Roy and the players for finally starting to get things right. Working together is the key to our success. (oh and special thanks to "mr 3rd party" for sorting everything)

5 points off 4th, 5 points off relegation.

This could still go either way really.  But with the fixtures coming up, we should definitly be getting up towards the top 4.

I think we need to focus on our away form now.  We really should be winning the next 3 games or taking 7 points at the very least.

You Respectfulz seem to have some active imagination...

Browse through the match thread there were alot congratulating Roy and the team...

I'm starting to think the Respectfulz have made up an imaginary group that they can criticize and wind up anytime they want... old habits die hard... sad but true...  :;):
